《Married But Single》Chapter 15

"Why didn't you, at least, tell me you were on your way here, Lydia?"

Annabelle asked.

Lydia rolled her eyes.

"I thought mum already told you!"

"She told me nothing." Annabelle replied patiently. "Besides, where did she go to?"

"She travelled to the States for business." Lydia pouted. "Besides, what's wrong with your own little sister coming over to stay with you for a few weeks?"

"No Lydia, I'm not against your coming over to stay with us, it's just that I was wondering why I wasn't informed."

Lydia shrugged. "She probably forgot to tell you or felt it wasn't necessary since we are family."

She nodded, not completely satisfied but decided to go with what her sister had said.

"Have you eaten?" She asked.

Lydia nodded with a smirk.

"Yes I have. That lovely woman already served me dinner."

"Okay then. Let me drop these things that I bought, upstairs."

Annabelle said and went upstairs.

She closed the door to the bedroom and paced.

Why was her sister here? Not that she wouldn't let her visit or stay with them on a normal situation, she would, but with the way her mother had been acting, was it possible that...

She shook her head. No, it wasn't possible.

Her mother loved Lydia a lot and wouldn't involve her in a game as dangerous as getting rid of David.

No, if her mother had really travelled, then Lydia was really here on a harmless visit. Besides, sweet little Lydia could hardly hurt her big stony husband.

Reassured by her own thoughts, she changed and went downstairs.

"...And after that, I came here immediately."

She heard Lydia say, to David obviously.

She came into the room just in time to see Lydia get up from her seat and flopped on David's laps.

"I've missed you, uncle Dave." She squealed, wrapping her arms around his neck.

"I've missed you too, little one." He teased and she groaned, then they both chuckled.

That feeling washed over her again. That feeling that had always been there since they were children.

The feeling of been left out.

Memories came rushing towards her.

The times she had stood by the corner as a child and watched her mother shower love and attention on her younger sister.

The times that David had completely ignored her especially after he returned from abroad but gave love and attention to Lydia.

He had always acted like she didn't exist whenever she was around him, but when Lydia was there, he always gave her that signature dazzling smile of his that always left her, Annabelle, feeling envious.

She walked into the room but they both ignored her and continued with their small talks.

The way they related with each other, one would think they were either siblings or lovers.

Annabelle sat opposite them, bringing out her iPhone to pass time with, as the two opposite her became engrossed in their conversation.

She raised her head to look at them from time to time. They didn't even bring her into their conversation or cared that she was quiet, they just kept discussing random topics between them like she wasn't even there, Lydia still on David's laps.

She fought against that feeling of been left out but gave up because it kept coming stronger and stronger.

She watched her husband and sister as they chatted and laughed.

She was supposed to be the one sitting on David's laps and chatting merrily like that, not her sister.

She was the one with his ring on her finger, his legitimate wife, so why would she be the one to be left out?

Enough.

She got up sharply forcing them to look up at her.

"Okay Lydia. It's time to go to bed, let me escort you to your room."

"Oh no, not now sis." Lydia whined. "Can't you see that uncle Dave and I are still talking?"

"You and your uncle, David can talk tomorrow. Come on, to your room now."

"But I'm not a child anymore, you can't tell me when to sleep."

Lydia protested.

"Your sister is right, pumpkin, it's time to sleep." David chimed in.

"But I still want to spend time with you, uncle Dave." Lydia pouted.

"I'm going upstairs Lydia, you have to come with me now." Annabelle insisted firmly.

"You can go ahead sis, uncle Dave and I will retire to our rooms after we're done chatting."

Annabelle blinked.

Leave you here with my husband and go upstairs to sleep? When I'm already starting to distrust you little sister? Not happening!

"That's not happening." She almost shouted. "You're coming with me right now."

"But I'm not sleepy yet."

"You go ahead," David said and she looked at him in surprise and confusion. "I'll escort her to her room."

Lydia nodded in excitement.

Annabelle stiffened, then slowly started to nod and turned around like a zombie, making her way upstairs. On the landing, she turned to look at them but they weren't looking at her, they were engrossed in whatever they were discussing.

Then slowly, he turned to look up at her and she held her breath, then he looked away.

She made her way to the bedroom.

Some fifteen minutes later, she heard the door open softly and David stood by it staring into the darkened room.

She couldn't see his face but felt his gaze on her and she lay still.

Then after a few minutes, he went out of the room and noiselessly closed the door.

Annabelle frowned. Where was he going?

Was he going to the other room he slept in? Or he was going to her sister's...

She shook her head. She'd better stop having such thoughts.

But where was he going?

Curiosity got the better of her and she slid out of bed and out of the room.

Going over to her sister's room, she listened but received no sound then lightly opened the door and saw Lydia sprawled on the bed already asleep and she chuckled.

That leaves the other room he was initially sleeping in.

But why was he going to sleep there tonight when he had been sleeping with her all these while?

She walked to the room and opened the door then frowned when he wasn't there.

She checked the remaining rooms but didn't find him.

He wasn't in the living room, downstairs, as well.

Where could he have gone? Was it that he went out at this time of the night?

Her eyes involuntarily strayed to the corridor where his study was located and she saw light coming out from underneath the door.

She went closer to the door, then heard shuffling of papers and a familiar sound of clearing throat.

She breathed a sigh of relief.

He was working.

She walked back to the room and laid back down.

She knew David was still angry with her for what transpired earlier on this evening.

He always happened upon her and Dominic at the wrong wrong times.

She sighed.

Anytime things were going fine and smooth for them both, something bad always happened and took them back to square one.

Now how on earth was she going to explain to David that what he had seen earlier on wasn't what it looked like?

❤❤❤

Annabelle was glad that it was Saturday because it had been a very busy and stressful week and she really needed to rest. Therefore, she woke up at ten that morning.

She stood up with a yawn, then went into the bathroom.

She came downstairs and heard voices coming from the dining room.

She found her husband and sister helping themselves to breakfast and went over to them.

She noticed Lydia squirm a little on her seat when she she saw her, then her hand flew to her chest as she tried to adjust something, but Annabelle's attention was on David.

"Good morning everyone." She greeted cheerfully.

"Good morning Sis." Lydia grinned.

"Good morning." David murmured.

She came over to him and kissed his cheek. That seemed to surprise him because he stiffened at the action.

She smiled.

"Did you sleep well Lyd?" She asked Lydia as she sat down and that was when she really noticed the obscene night wear her sister was putting on and having breakfast with her husband.

She had noticed it. She could swear that she had noticed Lydia adjusting and drawing up her nightwear to cover the top mounds of her breasts that were definitely on display before she, Annabelle walked in to the dining room.

It was a red handless nightwear. With lace at the cleavage area which could easily slid lower with movement to reveal what's beneath.

"I slept very well sis and you?"

Was this the picture Lydia had been showing to her husband before she came in?

And it had been intentional, because if it wasn't, she wouldn't have drawn up the dress when she had noticed her.

"Annabelle?" Lydia called.

"Oh, my night was fine, thanks."

She said and picked up some toasts.

She had never known Lydia to be the seductive type.

She guessed she didn't realize her little sister was no longer a child but a fully grown twenty year old woman. She was no longer the flat bodied toddler she used to carry around but a young woman now with full curves at the right places.

And she knew Lydia had stopped being a virgin at fifteen.
