《Moonlight ✔︎》Chapter 55

The day flew by, and it was night before we knew it.

I'd changed into the clothes Tyson had given me, Angel had spent the entire day chatting to people, or rather, them talking to him.

His friends visited him, Lycian ended up buying me an entire pack of skittles and to say I was overjoyed would be an understatement.

I was now seated in the uncomfortable chair next to the window.

The view outside wasn't anything special, though my gaze was merely focused on the sparkling sky.

I've always been captivated by it, specifically the moon.

The moon was full tonight, the sky was clear and scattered with stars. The moonlight shone brightly yet dimly on the earth.

It was stunningly beautiful.

As Angel enters through the doors, my thoughts are cut short.

He'd gone out to discuss the 'arrangement' for tonight with his father.

And that was exactly why I was sitting here; my anxiety had gotten the best of me, so I wandered over to look at the moon for some comfort.

I focus my attention on him as he strides closer to me, his face expressionless.

"What's happened?" I ask him, concern lacing my tone.

"Didn't show up." He replies.

I frown.

They didn't show up?

"What do you mean?"

He sighs and takes a seat next to me in the chair.

"Our men were all over the area, and there was no sign of them turning up at the park." He explains further.

I cast a worried glance away from him, returning my sight to the moon.

"Do you think they found out that I told you?"

"Yes." He answers.

His answer causes my heart to skip a beat and my mind tries to add everything up.

"What if that was the reason you were shot?" Looking at him, I say.

He examines my features carefully, staring at me emotionlessly.

"He stated there would be consequences if I told anyone." Slowly, I explain.

Angel's jaw ticked and his eyes became cold, as he became visibly irritated.

I nervously bit on my lower lip and began playing with my hands.

"Where's your phone?" He asks me suddenly.

I glanced at him, confused.

"Over there" I point to the desk near the bed.

He gets up and walks over to the table, where he picks up the phone and switches it on before glancing his eyes up to me blankly.

"Password?"

"Double four, three, zero," I answer.

I sit in the chair, staring at him like a weirdo as he puts it in.

I watched as his stern features morphed into a murderous look; you could almost feel his seething anger from here, and I felt like curling up into a ball at how intimidating he appeared.

The phone is thrown against the wall in a flash, prompting me to flinch at the unexpected action.

"Coglione." He growls out, his jaw tightening and fists clench.

Translation; Fùcker.

Angel storms out of the room, leaving me speechless and baffled.

I slowly rise to my feet and walk over to the phone.

I looked down at it, surprised it was still functioning.

Despite the fact that the screen was smashed, it was lit up and open in my messaging app.

I sat on the side of the bed, picking up the phone.

My gaze darts across the screen, searching for the cause of Angel's anger.

I hadn't checked my phone since the night Angel was shot, so I had a lot of unread texts from my concerned friends.

However, it was the message Angel opened that drew my attention.

It came from an unknown number, and while the number was not displayed, the grey message from the number was.

My heart instantly froze for a second as I read the typed words.

Hello Daisy,

Unfortunately, it appears that you did not follow my very clear directions. As a result of his, you now know what will happen if you continue to disobey me. Your pathetic excuse for a boyfriend is lucky to be alive; disobey me once more, and I'll make sure he's dead for good.

Now, read this carefully, I want you to meet me outside the hospital at 10 p.m. tomorrow. Don't worry about the money; that's not what we're after right now. Daisy, we'd rather have you.

Don't be late.

Over and over, my eyes scan the text message, tattooing the message into my memory.

My gaze is drawn to the time on my phone, which displays 9:34 p.m.

I close my eyes and bite my lower lip with dread.

They want me?

It didn't make sense; why do they want me for?

What would they do to me if they did get me?

A slew of questions flooded my thoughts, as I then began to feel unsafe.

"Where did you go, Angel?" I whisper to myself.

My eyes continued to follow the time as I sat on the bed and crawled into a ball.

I can't go.

Maybe you should go, stop being selfish Daisy. You're putting everyone's lives at risk; you've seen what they're capable of; Angel nearly died because you decided to open your mouth.

My inner voice was right, I was being self-centred.

It's better me than anyone else.

I sat there on the bed, tears streaming down my face, holding the broken phone in my hands and watching the clock tick away.

"You better get all your men here now, or so help me I'll fùcking kill each and every one of you," I growled into the phone.

"Don't speak to me that way, figlio." He says the last part with venom.

Translation; Son.

My head aching with rage, I chuckle darkly.

"Don't test me, padre. If someone puts a goddamn finger on her, you all better fùcking hide."

Translation; Father.

"I'll send them now." He says coldly before hanging up.

My fist clench around the phone, while my other hand is running through my hair.

The brisk wind whips against me, providing some solace from the seething fire within me.

I take out a cigarette and place it between my lips, before lighting it up.

My eyes go to my watch as I read the time, 9:50 p.m.

Inhale the toxic smoke, which fills my lungs and temporarily relaxes me.

As I wait for the bástard, I watch vehicles come and go as I observe everyone who walks in and out of the hospital.

My mind races with ideas on how I'm going to harm this person or people. Threatening Daisy, then shooting me and threatening to kidnap her?

I mentally laugh at how foolish this guy may be.

As I think of Daisy, a pang of regret comes over me; leaving her alone in the room wasn't the best option, but I couldn't be near her while I'm in this state.

Six black SUV cars pull up in the parking lot, each with four men inside.

I threw the cigarette to the ground after finishing it and walked over it as I approached the men.

"I want the building guarded, three men at the front entrance, three men at the back." I command.

They all nod as they load their weapons and take up their positions.

My gaze is drawn to my watch as I check the time again, 9:58 p.m.

I decide to head back to Daisy, I don't want her left alone, there's no way I'm letting her go or even be involved in this.

As I enter through the elevator doors, my hand glides through my hair.

The doors close as I press the button for the correct floor, and I lean against the wall.

I wait patiently for the doors to open and reveal the floor.

I exit the elevator and proceed along the silent corridor.

I quickly realise that the hall is far too quiet, so I take my gun in my hand and turn off the safety as I make my way to my room.

I notice the door is open and the lights are turned off, which heightens my suspicions.

My gun is poised in my hand, ready to fire at anyone who gets in my way.

When I get to the door, I use my foot to fully open it. My hard stare scans the room in search of Daisy.

I hurry inside the room, heading straight for the bathroom to see if she's there, which she isn't.

My heartbeat accelerated as I frantically examined every possible aspect of the room, hoping she was hidden in a corner reading one of her novels or listening to music through headphones. However, there was no indication that she was here.

I sat down on the edge of the bed and buried my head in my hands as I tossed the gun onto the bed.

I tugged on my hair furiously, trying to process all that had just occurred.

That's when it all hit me.

It was all set up.
