《The House Keeper》41

I felt his arms around me as I pressed in deeper to Oliver.

I was happy, until I thought of Cody.

I pulled away from Oliver and let my hands drop.

"You have to move away." I told him.

Oliver looked at me in confusion. "I just told you I am."

"No, now." I said. I rubbed my bare arms and even my legs were cold.

Oliver noticed the action and went to pick up his jacket, placing it back over me.

"Why now?" He asked.

I looked around at the park. It was nearly empty, it was getting darker and I wanted to leave here.

"Can we go first?" I asked him.

Oliver nodded and led me back to the car. He opened the door for me and I slid in. He quickly went to the driver's side and turned the car on before adjusting the heater.

It felt so nice, the heat warming me up. "You need to take Cody and go, as soon as possible. Leave this town. Hell, leave the state." I said to him. Oliver frowned at me as he pulled out of the gardens parking.

"Why so urgent?"

I took a breathe. "Oliver, there are many reasons why I didn't do what I did today." I couldn't bring myself to say the actual word, married. "I played a part in it as much as you did." I didn't look at him, I kept my focus straight ahead. "But the biggest reason was Cody."

"Cody?"

I nodded and turned to him. "I do adore him, so much. I tried not to, but it was so hard. It was really hard not to love him. Care for him. I was fighting myself about it. About my feelings for him, as I was with you." I turned back to the road, watching the other cars around us, looking anywhere but his face. "It was so hard, fighting two of those battles." It was exhausting.

"But why do we have to leave so quickly?"

I heard him say we, not I, not Cody, we.

It warmed me even more.

"Oliver, I swear, I did not know till earlier today." I warned him. I noticed the streets weren't to my hotel, but then I never told Oliver where I was staying.

We were going back to where I had called home.

"What is it?" Oliver gritted out. He could sense it.

"I didn't say anything, I acted dumb, like I never knew any connection to it." I added as we got closer.

"What is it?" Oliver asked again.

I took a shake breathe and closed my eyes. I wanted to say it, but it wouldn't come out. "I... It's.... Uh..." What the hell? Spit it out!

Oliver drove past the security gate.

"Percy's cousin is Sarah!" I finally blurted.

Oliver applied the brakes and as soon as the car stopped, he turned to me. His face dark, and I leaned back in my seat, towards the door.

"What?" Oliver's face was still, showing me just how serious this matter was.

"Well, I think." I whispered.

"You think?" Oliver growled out. "What gave you that notion?"

"He was waiting for his cousin, he told me, that she and her mother, his aunt, they weren't on talking terms. His cousin does drugs and then he added that his aunt, he said her name is Sarah, his aunt, she couldn't forgive her daughter, because she gave her child up for adoption." I confessed.

Oliver stayed quiet as he processed what I said, before continuing the last few metres of the drive way.

"What's his last name?" Oliver said as he turned the car off.

His last name? Oh right, Percy's surname. "Uh..."

Oliver gave me a dark smile as we both stayed in the car. "You were going to marry him today and you don't know his last name?" Than Oliver gave out a chuckle.

"Yardley." I bit out. Oliver sat back in his chair.

"Yardley. Doesn't ring a bell."

"His mother is divorced, his aunt are sisters. His mother goes by Parrish."

I saw Oliver stiffen in his seat. That rang a bell. It must have.

"I didn't let on." I told him. "I didn't say I knew where Cody was or that I knew him at all. I didn't tell Percy that Cody was that baby. Honestly, I didn't."

Oliver turned to me and took my hand. "I know you wouldn't have, but out of curiosity, why didn't you?"

It was getting even darker and I stared at him. "I couldn't. Because I knew he will be much better of with you. If he stayed with you." Came my soft reply.

Oliver let my hand go and got out off the car. I opened my door and did the same as he took my hand and closed my door. "Thank you for not telling them." He said to me.

"Look at that. You do know how to say thank you." I teased. It came out and I couldn't stop it.

"I've said thank you to you before."

I scrunched my face up as we went, hand in hand, to the front door. "Yeah, but I don't think you meant them."

I couldn't help myself. He was literally so open for it. Oliver laughed and pulled me to him. I felt his kisses on my lips as I took them.

"You meant that." I whispered as I opened my eyes.

"You play a dangerous game, Monty." Oliver told me.

"No." I feigned the shock of his words before grinning. "I play fun games."

Oliver groaned as I laughed.

"Someone else has been missing your fun games." He said as he pushed me inside.

My stomach had recently became unknotted, but I could feel it happen again. The twisting and squeezing in it. He is going to be so mad at me.

"Monty! I want MONTY!" I heard the four year old scream.

Oliver went to the kitchen, a defeated look on his face and shortly afterwards, one of the security officers came out, gave me a nod and left. The poor guard looked shell shocked.

"Where is Monty? You promised me Monty!" Came his howls.

"Cody! Listen to me." I heard Oliver snap. "Come here. I have something to show you." I went to step closer to the dining room when I suddenly stopped.

I saw the boy, his head down, one hand holding Oliver's, the other rubbing an eye. He had been crying.

I squatted down at the dining room entrance, smiling. My hands on my mouth as I felt the familiar run of tears.

"I want Monty back." Came his small plea.

"Cody," I whispered out, my smile, I couldn't hide.

He froze and looked up at me. "Monty?"

I smiled weakly as I held my arms open for him.

"Monty!" He squealed as he let Oliver go and ran in to my arms.

For such a little boy, a four year old, he had bowled me over with such brute strength.

I went down on the ground, squeezing him tightly.

"I miss you! Where you go? You didn't ring me! Guess what?" He was full of beans, his face now smiling, but still red and puffy from crying.

"What?" I asked him, laughing as I rubbed the tears out off my eyes. Oliver crouched down to us as I sat up on the floor, holding Cody close to me. I had missed him so much.

"I don't have a Uncle Ollie any more." He smiled widely.

"No!" I faked the surprise.

"He my daddy!"

Cody jumped off me to Oliver as Oliver lost balance and fell on to his bottom. I laughed at the boy's innocence.

"Cody," Oliver looked at Cody, as Cody smiled broadly. "As your dad, I've been thinking." Oliver looked at me, I could see the longing in his eyes as I straightened out my dress.

"Wait!" Cody interrupted his father. "I have a..." He pointed to his head. Both Oliver and I frowned. "Idea. Since you are my daddy, can I have a mummy too?"

Oliver raised his eyebrows. "A mummy?"

Cody turned to me, his face a serious mask. "Can Monty be my Mummy?"

I smiled at him as I felt my heart swell. Still so innocent.

Oliver laughed. "I think that's a marvellous idea. Monty?" Both the Black boys turned back to me.

I ran my fingers through Cody's hair and down his face. "I think it's a marvellous idea as well."
