《The House Keeper》9.

I looked at the roof. It's been nearly forty minutes. Percy was softly snoring next to me. Surely his asleep by now. I didn't want to disturb him, but he also knew I wasn't staying, I had to leave.

I gently got out off his bed and picked up my clothes as I went to his lounge room. I got dressed hastily, after I couldn't find my panties. I put on my no heeled boots and scarf, as I did a quick sweep off his room. I found my beret, and behold, my panties. I put my beret on as I picked up my bag and shoved my panties in there.

I snuck out as quietly as I could and headed to my car, fishing out my keys. I pulled up my large collection of metal and unhooked my car keys.

I drove home in the dead of the night. It was just after midnight and I was tired. I had work tomorrow. I turned my heater on as I drove through the fog.

I made it home safely, even though the roads were icy. This cold snap was getting ridiculous.

I felt embarrassed at the security gate and drove slowly and quietly to the garage. I didn't bother putting my car away as I stepped out and locked it.

I hummed to myself as I went to my unit. As far as I could tell, the lights were off in the main house, but I didn't really look.

The bottom of my boots made quiet noises against the icy floor that was mixed with pebbles. I cautiously stepped each step as I finally made it to my door. I opened it up and went straight for the heater.

I didn't turn any lights on as I fumbled around towards my bedroom door.

"Where have you been?"

I jumped three feet as I screamed bloody murder. My hand quickly went to my bedroom light switch as my eyes adjusted to where the voice came from.

On my couch was a silhouette.

"Mr Black? What are you doing here?" I panted as I gripped my chest.

The bedroom light didn't reveal much into my lounge room. I couldn't see him, just his outline.

"I came to look for you." I saw his phone light up in his face. "Three hours ago."

I watched my kitchen light up and I saw him standing by the front door where that light switch was. My lounge room was open with my kitchen, it was a small unit.

I heard the annoyance in his voice as I got my pyjamas off my bed. I slightly closed the door.

"Just give me a second please." I called out as I unclipped my halter dress. I let that and my jacket slid off after I took off my scarf and beret and pulled on a tight singlet and pulled up my flannel pants. I walked out to the lounge room barefooted and turned the heater on.

"Well, I was out." I stated as I opened my fridge for water.

"Yes, I saw that."

I drank from the bottle and placed it back in the fridge.

"I tried ringing you, but I found your phone in a drawer in the kitchen with a smart note." Mr Black held up my phone with the note.

I smirked. "I know." I nodded at him.

"Mr Black, just in case you tried calling me. I've gone out." He read the note to me.

"I know what it says. I wrote it."

"So where is out? Montana?"

I shrivelled at the name. I hate that name. "As far as I'm concerned, I wasn't working, so it doesn't concern you." I shrugged as I went to my room and grabbed my clothes. I went to my washing machine and threw them in there.

"I told you I don't like strangers on my property."

I sighed as I turned to him. "I assure you, I never have brought anyone here. Besides, I wasn't going to risk you interrupting my date again."

"So you were on a date?"

I groaned as I felt my eyes go tired. "I was, now I'm back. I want to go to bed. It's after midnight. I'm tired." I wanted to cry it out, but instead I just stated it to him in a flat tone.

Oliver went to open the front door.

"What were you after anyway?"

****

I banged the frying pan on the stove top as I cracked two eggs in to it. I heard them sizzling away as I flipped the bacon over. I was in a mood today.

I barely got any sleep last night after that spat with Oliver and now I was up early, battling the cold, running on three hours sleep.

I pushed down the button on the toaster as I flipped the bacon again. What an ass! I thought to myself. I had a great night last night, it was lots of fun, being out with Percy, but that's all Percy was. Fun.

I made myself another coffee and stirred it. I still couldn't get over Mr Black.

I flipped his eggs over and buttered his toast before placing the bacon on his plate. I drank my coffee, in between handling breakfast and by the time I put the last egg on the plate, my coffee was done.

Mr Black came in then and sat at the bar, newspaper out as I placed his breakfast in front of him. I didn't speak and went to do the dishes.

"Where's my coffee?"

I looked up at him.

Ass.

"Oh, I forgot." I sneered as I left the room. I went to his room and picked up his dirty washing and took the basket to his door and made his bed. I carried the basket down the stairs then went and sorted out his study.

I grabbed the basket and went to the kitchen and tried to hold my surprise back when I saw Mr Black making his coffee.

"Don't act surprised that I know how to make a coffee." He said to me. I shook my head and opened the washing machine and pegged his clothes in.

Ass.

That's when I thought I felt a vibration and dove in to my apron pocket for my phone. It wasn't there. I must have left it in the unit.

"Don't I usually get scrambled eggs on a Saturday?"

I stared at Oliver and shook my head.

Ass.

"Oh, I forgot." I repeated myself before turning on my heel to go out the back door. I originally wanted to get my phone.

Oliver followed me and snatched my arm. "What's gotten in to you? You're very moody today."

Did I mention it was my time of the month? I went to take my arm out off his grip when something caught my eye. It was near the garden.

My whole body relaxed and Oliver loosened his grip on me as I stepped off the footpath and on to the frozen grass.

I looked up at the sky when I saw it again. I opened my hand and one landed on my open palm.

It's snowing.

It's actually snowing. I watched the snowflakes drop majestically as one landed on my face.

"Montana! Get inside before you get sick!" I heard Mr Black as he pushed me to the back door.

That's when I realised I didn't have a jacket on. I was shivering. I went in the back door and shuddered. That's when I remembered about my phone.

"I need my phone." I stated as I rubbed my arms.

Oliver had the smart pad and pressed the screen a few times. "Leave it. You can get it later."

I glared at him before shaking my head. "Are you finished?" I asked, his plate from breakfast in my hand.

"Yes." Was all he said as he stormed out.

ASS! I screamed in my head. I felt the kitchen warming up. It was the perfect weather for a winter casserole.

I started preparing dinner already, adding ingredients in to a slow cooker, timed it for 10 hours on slow and placing the lid on.

I putted around the house, doing odd jobs until the end of my shift came. I dished out Mr Blacks dinner into a bowl and I even made home made bread rolls as I poured the rest in to a container.

Oliver came in shortly afterwards as I placed a jacket on. Some days I bring two inside in case I forget one another day.

"There's leftovers in the fridge if you want more, plus there is plenty for lunch or dinner tomorrow." I left before Mr Black could say anything else.

I settled in to my couch with the heater on and blanket wrapped around me. I just finished my dinner as I had music playing on my phone and my ear phones in as I read on my tablet.

I was warm and content where I was, until I felt a hand on my shoulder.
