《The House Keeper》4.

I had the invitations done and sent, all the rooms were ready. The catering service was hired and will be in very soon.
I had purchased myself a white long sleeved blouse with a dark grey low breasted vest and black slacks and a new black pair of Oxford style shoes.
I quickly slipped them on, trying not to shiver from the cold as I quickly rolled my hair into a puffy large bun that sat on the back of my neck.
I picked up my keys and phone and rushed out of my unit to the back door, draping my new trench coat over me.
The weather outside was frightfully chilly and it was only noon. The party will start in four hours.
It wasn't long before the caterers arrived and started doing their thing, as I instructed what went where and what needed to be done.
This was my very first event ever, I didn't need a screw up anywhere. Being a nervous wreck didn't help.
My small heels on my feet ricochet on the polished floor boards as I moved from dining room to the main entertainment room.
The heaters were humming as they heated the house up and I opened the small separate privacy room up. It was attached to the entertainment room as I liked to call a ballroom. The open windows overlooked the garden as the garden held as a privacy wall from people looking in.
The tables were set up, I had hired a bar attendant for the bar and purchased thousands of dollars of alcohol. The DJ will be in soon.
Mr Black never told me what sort of party it was, all he said was its not an elegant event. A full on party. So party it is. I had also hired an event planner for help who left before I dressed for the night. The room had helium balloons with battery operated candles inside as they floated around. Most were on the roofs of each floor, underneath the next floor balconies, but some had escaped to the main glass roof. It might take days for the helium to disappear out of the balloons before I could get a hold of them. Each coffee table, high end table and any other flat surface held battery operated candles.

I had an electrician in plus an expert in audio and together they hooked up the surround sound system for the music.
As far as I know, everything was ready. I went back to the kitchen and shrugged off my jacket, placing it over the dryer.
The kitchen was full of people and I had put away all small appliances as the set up of plate warmers were on the benches and people had already started cooking.
I had strictly told them finger foods. I unlocked my tablet and went through my list of things. I had found an app that would help me in these situations.
One final check over before Mr Black came home. I went through the ball room again, the bar attendant and DJ will be arriving in the next two hours, I made my way to the second storey and looked at each table, every one was set up, all the tables had gold star confetti on them. I checked in on Mr Blacks bedroom and everything was finished. The next room on the other side of the grand stairs was his personal room, holding another small bar and a tiny living room set up. I locked the door, that one was off limits.
The guest bedrooms were made and presentable. I walked to the next set of stairs to the other three guest rooms. I finished them off yesterday, each one had been cleaned and fresh linen applied.
The decorations up here were minimal, but I still had this floor done because I saw the guest list, I did the invites, there were over a eighty people invited and at least fifty were coming. The extra floor room was needed.
I went back down to the first floor, cursing there wasn't an elevator. I just went through the dining rooms double doors when the front door opened.
I turned to see Mr Black enter. "Miss Kelly, that looks more appropriate." Mr Black said as he closed the front door.
"Mr Black. Everything is in order." I ignored his comment as he looked around.
"Very well."
I nodded and turned on my heel as I continued to the kitchen.
"Miss Kelly?" I rolled my eyes before turning. Why does it sound like that I'm a teacher. I didn't like it.

"Yes sir?" I enquired.
"I'll be in my study. I would like a cup of coffee."
"Yes sir." I went to the kitchen and turned the kettle on. I tried not to get in anyone's way as I made the coffee. A coffee was a great idea to be honest and I quickly added the coffee powder and sugar in to another mug and poured in the milk.
I finished off Mr Blacks coffee and learning from previous mistakes, I did not fill it to the top when he has his coffee in his study.
I knocked on the door before entering, and taking another short walk from the door to his desk, I placed the coffee mug down.
I didn't receive a thank you. Typical. As usual. I went back to the door. "Miss Kelly." Mr Black called out to me.
I turned back to face him. "Yes sir?"
"What time will the caterers leave?"
"11pm, sir."
Mr Black nodded as he continued to look at his computer screen. "The DJ?"
"The DJ and bartender will be finishing at 1am. The extra security will at finish 2am. The photographer has been hired to do 5 hours, so... Around 9pm." I looked up from my tablet. I wasn't leaving this out of my sight tonight. It has already proven to be helpful.
"Very well."
What was it with him and those two words?
"You can finish when the DJ and bar attendant leaves."
"Yes sir." I went to leave but Mr Black called me back again. His rough voice grated me. I just wasn't used to working with him here, even though it is his estate.
"You can start at noon tomorrow, just on clean up."
"Yes sir." I stood there and waited, in case there was more.
"That will be all, Miss Kelly."
I went to the door and opened it, but closed it again and returned to Mr Blacks desk.
"Actually..."
"Yes, Miss Kelly?"
It was that, that's what I wanted to talk to Mr Black about. "Sir," I starred, suddenly nervous. "About that, my name."
Mr Black actually looked up at me and I felt all courage flee me.
"What of your name, Miss Kelly?"
He was taunting me. I saw the tiny flicker of movement in the corner of his lips.
"It makes me sound like a preschool teacher."
"Well, from what I've seen this past week, I wouldn't dispute you looking like one."
My eyes widened. Was he saying I dress like a preschool teacher?
"Although you don't look like one now."
I felt my cheeks heat up. Oh great, I'm blushing and he is looking at me.
"Then what do I propose to call you? Your first name?" Mr Black asked as he sat back and sipped his coffee.
"Actually, yes."
Mr Black hummed. I waited as I realised he doesn't remember my name. I smirked and placed a hand on my hip, eyebrows raised.
"That will be highly unprofessional." Mr Black finally spoke.
I scoffed at him. "You don't remember my name!" A smile pulled at my lips.
Mr Black looked surprised. Crap, did I step out off line? "Like I said, unprofessional."
I gave him a quick nod and spun on the spot as I left the room. I wasn't angry he forgot, I was amused that he did. Shouldn't he know his employees names?
The rest of the paid workers slowly turned up and I showed them where each one was situated. I told the photographer to flutter around constantly.
"You are however, on Mr Blacks request, not permitted to enter any other room, minus the bathroom." I showed him the door for that room. "Mr Black is a very private person. Just constantly flutter between these three floors and the dining room. However, I invite you to the kitchen for food and drinks." I smiled at him.
"This is a very large house." He spoke.
"Yes. Very open and basic too though, so you can't get lost. Mr Black would like the photos back by Wednesday at the latest."
Mark, the photographer nodded at me.
"Mr Black doesn't care if you watermark or not, but if you do, please but it on the top, bottom or corner of each photo. Not the middle. From what I can understand though, the company you are from and your name will be credited though."
I left the Mark to his job as I heard a crash in the kitchen. "Now what?" I groaned.
