《Fight For You》Chapter Twenty Six - Pickup Lines and Almost Kisses

"Hey, Em!" Daniel greeted me that afternoon, chipper as ever.

"Hey," I smiled at him, taking my coat off and sitting on the couch, "okay, I'm ready." I waited for his long rendition of last night's adventures.

"Ready for what?" He asked in confusion.

"To hear about your date?" What was going on here? Daniel not talking about something was just as annoying as him over sharing.

"Oh, that. It was good."

I narrowed my eyes at him, "anything else?"

"The food was good?"

I sniffed in annoyance. "Fine, it's not like I was super excited to hear about how it went or anything." I walked up to the kitchen to get a glass of water.

"Okay, I can't hold it in any longer!" Daniel gushed. I knew it. What a punk. "It was amazing. Rebecca was amazing, the conversation was amazing, the food - which, I now know the food I want at my wedding by the way - was amazing."

I laughed at him, "Are you going out again?"

He gave me a dry look, "Are you kidding me? I had to stop myself from asking her to marry me. It's too soon."

"And illegal," I added.

He ignored me, "the night was perfect and Kyle actually kept his mouth shut for once. By the way, he's coming over soon to go to the arena with us."

I raised an eyebrow, "Why is he coming with us?"

Daniel shrugged, "I think he wants to get in your pants. Also, you should know that Rebecca still thinks you're my sister."

"Daniel!" I reprimanded him on both accounts.

"I couldn't tell her I had a caregiver on our first date! I'm already coming off lame enough here. Anyway, I'm just telling you in case the topic comes up if you ever see her, which you probably won't."

"As your sister I should probably vet her to make sure she's not a sociopath." I stated matter of factly.

"That's not happening," Daniel asserted.

"I mean, a true older sister would."

"You couldn't keep a secret to save your life," Daniel laughed.

After working on some physical therapy with Daniel, we made our way to the elevator and towards the limo that was picking us up. As we approached, we saw a familiar blonde haired boy waiting for us with a grin.

"Hey Danny boy," he greeted, ruffling Danny's hair. "Emily, it's so good to see you again."

"Hey Kyle," I greeted before climbing into the vehicle.

"I thought I'd escort you," Kyle added, climbing in after me as Daniel scoffed. "Shut it, Danny. Do you need me to remind you about the crab discussion yesterday?" Kyle asked poking his head back out of the limo to speak to Daniel.

"Hey! Let's not forget what I'm holding over your head here." Daniel climbed in last and the driver put his wheelchair into the trunk.

"Truce, truce." Kyle muttered, turning to look at me. "So Emily, aside from being sexy, what do you for fun?"

Daniel burst out laughing, "Lame." He taunted, "does that work on chicks?"

Kyle crossed his arms defensively, "I do fine."

"With pickup lines like that? Miguel used to tell me all about yours and Lucas's wild times and it's reassuring to know that you probably didn't get too far with that." Daniel teased.

My ears perked up at the mention of Lucas's wild days. I wondered what he got up to now. I'm sure he has his pickings of any girl he wanted. He wasn't just insanely attractive, but he was kind as well.

"Lucas could never compare to my talents. He'd end up bailing halfway through," Kyle boasted.

"So what you're saying is that you're the only man whore around?" Daniel questioned.

Kyle gaped at him, at a loss for words. I sighed in relief as we pulled up to the arena a few minutes later. There were even more paparazzi than the last fight, which meant a larger crowd and more cameras. I felt my heart begin to clench as it did the last time. I don't think I'd ever get used to the atmosphere.

We filtered out of the limo and began our trek towards the locker area. It was the same as the last fight, except this time both Daniel and Kyle stopped to pose for any available camera. I tried to walk as far away from the two of them as possible, but their confidence was admirable.

We finally made our way to Lucas's room and Daniel and Kyle shoved their way, each trying to get in before the other. I rolled my eyes at them and waited before Daniel ran over Kyle's foot with his wheel. "Ow!" He groaned, holding onto his foot.

"Ha!" Daniel cheered, wheeling in first with a pouting Kyle behind him.

Lucas was sitting on the bench just like the last time, the room completely silent. He had his hands clasped in front of him, elbows leaning against his thighs. He wore a black t-shirt, exposing his meandering, trailing tattoos. He looked up as the boys entered.

"Hey!" Daniel greeted moving towards his brother as Lucas pulled his arm in for a hug. He clapped Kyle's hand as he approached.

I waited at the back of the wall, feeling a little too much like an outsider to go up to Lucas, but not enough to wait outside the room. It was a confusing place to be.

Lucas's blue eyes connected with mine instantly and he smiled slightly, "Hi," he greeted.

"Hi," I breathed out, my back against the wall.

Kyle walked towards me, "Emily was just about to tell me what she does for fun."

Just then, the door opened and Miguel slapped Kyle at the back of his head. "What the hell man? That's the second time!" Kyle whined rubbing his head.

Miguel shot him a look and Kyle shook his head at him in confusion. Miguel sighed and shoved a complaining Kyle out of the room by the nape of his neck, closing the door behind him. Daniel looked at the two of them leaving, "I swear, if they left to deal with the press without me again, I'm going to lose it." He wheeled out of the door in a huff.

I looked at Lucas who was still gazing at me, "How are you?" He asked genuinely.

"I should be asking you that," I chuckled.

He picked up the tape that was next to him and began to wrap his hands up slowly. "Feeling the typical nerves." He looked at me and patted the spot next to him, "Want to sit?"

My shaky legs barely made it to the bench as my body fell in the spot next to him. He continued wrapping his massive hands, flexing his fingers every so often.

"Sorry about Kyle. He'll settle down with a bit of time." Lucas said softly.

I shrugged, "He's been great. Daniel loves him."

He nodded shooting me a small smile, "He does."

My eyes darted to the stitches still recovering on his muscular arm. My fingers reached out and gently touched the area and he took in a breath as I did so, his arm tensing. "Be careful."

His blue eyes shot to mine and they were pooling with emotion. With affection. His hand reached up and touched mine, still on his arm, his fingers clutching onto mine for a moment, my heart racing in my chest. His eyes darted to my lips and his head leaned in closer by just an inch.

Just then, the door burst open and in came the three boys, arguing about something. I darted backwards and forgot I was on a bench which meant I was going to fall with my legs straight up in the air. I couldn't think of anything more embarrassing. My eyes were clamped shut in anticipation. Lucas's arm wrapped around my waist just as my head was about to hit the concrete floor.

I opened one eye to see his stoic face looking into mine.

Daniel guffawed, "Smooth, Em." He wheeled over with a pack of m&ms in his hands.

I stood up and dusted my clothes off. My eyes darted to Lucas to see he was already looking at me, but I couldn't read the burning emotion on his eyes. I cleared my throat, "Um, thanks."

Miguel walked over to Lucas and greeted me as he passed, "Hey Emily." He said with a smile.

I smiled back at him, "Hi Miguel."

Lucas removed his shirt, his body on full display for me. I looked away, cheeks ablaze but not before I heard a small chuckle of amusement from him. Miguel grabbed the padding and began to wrap Lucas's hands. "Ready?" He asked. Lucas nodded, his face stoic and impassive. I realized it was his fighting face.

Lucas walked up to Daniel, "Good luck, Lucas."

He placed his hand on his shoulder, "Want to walk in with us?" Lucas asked.

Daniel gaped at him, "Do I- um, yes. I do." He stuttered.

Lucas smiled at his brother before turning to look at me, "You're welcome to come too."

I gaped at him, "Er, I'll just watch the fight and meet you guys after."

Lucas frowned, "I don't think it's a good idea for you to sit alone at an event like this."

Kyle put his hand up, "I'll stay with her."

Lucas looked at him for a moment and then at Miguel who sent him a subtle nod. Lucas sighed reservedly, "Fine."

Daniel shot me an apologetic look, but I waved him off with a smile. He deserved this. Daniel wheeled out of the room with Miguel teasingly pushing his shoulder. Lucas gazed at me, his fingers reaching for mine. He intertwined our fingers for just a moment before looking at me with concern, "Be safe."

I nodded, my cheeks as red as they could be, "You too."

Lucas left the room afterwards and Kyle scoffed, "I'm fine too, guys."

I laughed at him and we left the gym and walked over to our reserved seats near the caged ring.
