《DIEGO'S INNOCENCE》CHAPTER FIFTY-SIX

DIEGO'S POV.

A noise is heard behind me, interrupting my discussion with Hunter. Hunter and I turn to look at the door, seeing Siara, who looks exhausted.

Siara called me yesterday, telling me that she will come the following day, which is today.

Her eyes are cast to the ground as she takes her shoes off. Hunter and I watch in silence, as she walks in our direction afterwards. Her eyes are now on her phone as she presses on it, a sigh escaping her lips as she gets closer to us.

"Hi," Hunter greets with a smile on his face, startling Siara.

Siara looks up at us, a smile replacing the fear that was on her face moments ago.

"Hello," Siara replies, putting the bag she always carries around on the stool. I would think she carries weed or illegal weapons in the bag if I did not know any better.

"Where were you last night? I didn't see you for dinner, and you weren't in the office as well, " Hunter asks, stuffing his face with some cupcakes. Hunter and I woke up to cook breakfast together, just like old times.

"I slept at my friend, Sam's house," Siara replies, grabbing a bottle of water from the fridge. "I wanted to spend some time with her. But I lost track of time, and that resulted in a sleepover." Siara smiles, drinking from the bottle.

Hunter smiles back at her, leaning more into the chair he is seated on.

"I am glad to see you out and about.... I swear, I always see you walking around, or in the kitchen eating.... and let's not forget you dancing in Diego's office," Hunter says, patting his belly.

Siara blushes when Hunter utters the last sentence; it is quite difficult to see a black person blush, but the way her head goes down, and the way she bites her lips is a giveaway.

I have found her dancing in my office more than once, and her dancing is a sight to see. And I do admit that I do watch her dance for a few minutes, and I do admit that it is weird, but I can not help it.

Siara can dance, and the way she sings along to the music is magical, her voice is quite angelic. And I can also tell that she is a fan of old music, I always hear songs of Eminem, Biggie, Tupac, Destiny's child, 50 cent, Nas and many more artists playing when I pass through the hallway, which makes me smile.

Siara uses the office I use the least, which is kind of isolated. I use it mostly for meeting, and zoom calls.

I have not had a physically meeting in years, and I now usually hold my meetings in the downstairs office, which is closer to living room, incase something happens.

"So, how was the interrogation?" Siara asks, forcing a smile on her face. I can tell that she wants to change the topic, which is understandable.

"We didn't do the interrogation," Hunter rolls his eyes as he answers. I can see the confusion on Siara's face, making me chew on the inside of my cheek.

"Why not?" She holds onto the kitchen island as she asks.

Hunter grabs a grape from the bowl of fruits before he answers, which is funny to watch. He has been eating for sometime now, which means he will spend more time in the gym: and Hunter hates the gym, but he also loves his muscular body.

"Because that dumbo I call a brother was waiting for his queen," Hunter says with no interest, and it is now my turn to roll my eyes.

"We are a team.... She is also my lawyer, she has to be present," I state, sipping from my cup of coffee, the second one this morning.

"If you say so," I hear Hunter murmur, pressing on his phone.

I slowly turn my head in Siara's direction, and I am not surprised when I see a shocked expression on her face.

I raise my eyebrow at her, putting a grape in my mouth. She shakes her head at me, disbelief still present on her face.

"But the case is next week, we need to have proof," She says, massaging her forehead. "Why would you wait for me?" She asks, making Hunter scoff.

"I asked the same thing, but loverboy did not take me serious," Hunter says, shaking his head.

"Shut up." I say with a firm voice, and Hunter lifts his hands up, as he murmurs the word whatever.

My eyes turn back to look at Siara, who now looks annoyed, she no longer has a look of disbelief on her face.

"Like I said before; we are a team, and I did say that we would interrogate the two together..... And let's not forget, this case will look good on your resume. You will have to write every single detail down, and I doubt if Hunter will care about what happens; he might kill Bianca before he asks her questions..... This will also help you with future cases, I am no lawyer, but I do know that you have to ask your clients and other people questions."

Siara looks at me with realization on her face, but I can also see a bit of sadness in her eyes.

"Thank you," She murmurs under her breathe, but her words are loud enough to hear.

"Why are you thanking me?" I ask with a frown on my face.

The room is in silence, both Hunter and I waiting for Siara's answer. Siara smiles in my direction, wiping a tear from her eyes.

"Because you care about me.... I have not done shit with this case, but you are here trying to help me with wanting to achieve a goal that is so fucking far. Not a lot of people can do such a thing," Siara says as she wipes more tears from her eyes. "Forgive me for crying, I just can't help it." She murmurs chuckling.

I find myself walking in her direction, my eyes meeting her's, before I can even get close. I pause a few steps from where she is, placing my hand on her shoulder.

"You don't have to thank me, I should be thanking you instead. You chose to help me, and you haven't asked for anything in return. I know that you feel like you won't succeed in achieving your dreams, but you need to understand that the road is full of doubts, self-pity and tears. I know that you are strong, and I know that you will look back smiling, and you will thank yourself for not giving up. I ain't doing anything to help you, it's your hard work that has brought you this far, I am just offering you a hand."

A smile forms on Siara's face when I finish speaking, her eyes have a spark as she looks at me, making me feel happy.

My eyes slowly go her lips, and her's move to mine as well. I find myself leaning in, and Siara's head does the same.

Our lips almost touch, but a sound is heard, separating the two of us. We move away from each other quickly, as we clear our throats.

Siara looks down at her phone, a sigh escaping her lips as she sees the caller.

"It's my friend," She murmurs. "I have to tell her that I am safe." She continues, and I nod.

I watch as she walks passed me, my eyes linger on her body, which moves further away from me.

I sigh as I turn around, getting startled when I see Hunter giving me a weird look.

He wiggles his eyebrows at me, giving me a smile, which makes me sigh. I decide to walk out of the kitchen when he starts making kissing noises.

I can hear his voice calling out to me, his footsteps following behind as I enter my office.
