《DIEGO'S INNOCENCE》CHAPTER FIFTY-TWO

HUNTER'S POV.

I watch as Diego sips from his cup of coffee. The man is addicaed to coffee, it concerns me sometimes.

"Did she tell you what was bothering her?" I ask, clearing ny throat.

I take a sip of my grape juice, smiling at Diego, who looks at me with his eyebrows raised. I can see that he is confused, and it annoys me that I have to repeat my question. But I have to understand that Diego is like this; he is physically here, but never mentally.

"I was asking you if you have spoken to Siara..... Did you find out what was bothering her? She looked startled when she saw us in the office,"

I watch as Diego walks towards the sink. He begins washing the plate and cup he used. I sigh out loud, thinking that he will not reply to my question, but I am proven wrong when he does reply.

"Yeah she did," He replies, putting the plate in it's rightful place. I wait for him to tell me more, but I am disappointed when he goes back to his laptop.

He takes a seat opposite me, and I watch on as he chooses to ignore me. Something that I will not let happen.

"Are you going to tell me more?" I question, eating from my brownie.

"No," Diego replies, still not looking at me. I put my cup on the table, watching as he taps away on his laptop.

"Why?"

"Because it does not concern you.... Siara trusted me, and I did promise to not tell you or anyone else: and I intend on keeping my promise,"

I nod my head, understanding his reason. I am just happy to see him acting kind. He is acting more like the old Diego.

Diego has never been a talkative person. But he completely stopped talking to people unless necessary some years back, and he would always reply with short answers.

I am happy to see him talking more, and he is also expressing himself, something that he does not do often.

"Alright... I understand," I smile in his direction, watching as he turns the laptop in my direction.

The screen shows a male and female, who I recognize as Eric and Bianca. The two are outside a small cottage, together. There are videos and photos of the two, and it seems like the photos were taken recently by the quality.

"Where did you get these?" I ask, grabbing the laptop from his hands. I told the investigator to send me the location of both Eric, and Bianca yesterday, and he is yet to respond.

"I got back to my hacking ways... I still have Eric's line, and I just remembered that Mr Brown showed me how to hack into computer systems," Diego states, which leaves me speechless. "And I also sent the men to go there hours before I showed you this. The men sent me the photos and videos of the two a few minutes after you came into the room, and I didn't want to tell you anything because you would have started asking me questions while I ate,"

The last sentence makes me laugh, knowing that he is saying the honest truth.

"I wanna ask why Mr Brown never showed me how to hack, but I know that my lazy ass has no time to do such things," I state, happy and proud of my brother. "I can't believe you remembered all these things, I would have forgotten everything about technology if I was in your shoes," I continue, knowing how Diego is. I did give him a phone when he went into prison, but he gave it back, because he does not like using a lot of technology.

The city is run by the mafia, and a lot of things are hidden from the public. Diego would have left prison a long time ago, but he always said that he wanted everyone to know that he was innocent.

"I know that you love forgetting stuff... Being forgetful is part of you," Diego says, leaning into his chair. I chuckle, pushing the cup away.

"That's true.... But lets go back to the main topic," I suggest to which Diego nods. "What are we going to do now? We already know that they are in peru, but how are we going to bring them here?"

Diego looks at the wall clock that hangs a few meters away. I grow confused when I see him looking relaxed.

"The two will be here by mid afternoon, you just need to make the police officers shut up," Diego states, grabbing his phone from the table. He hands the phone to me, and I grab it feeling confused. But my confusion clears up when I see a red dot on the screen.

"Is that..."

"Yes," Diego interrupts. "The guards are flying here with the two as we speak,"

Shock fills my body, not believing how fast he is doing things.

"Wow," I state, placing the phone down. "You are doing things fast,"

"I know.... The faster I prove myself, the better," Diego murmurs.

"What's the plan?" I ask.

"The plan is simple..... You will be in charge of the two, like receiving them and what not, while I see if they have any accomplice," I nod when I hear Diego's answer.

The room is in silence afterwards, and since I hate silence, I decide to say something.

"You seem determined to free yourself, something that you weren't sometime back. What changed?" I question, folding my arms.

Diego looks at me for a moment, averting his eyes afterwards. He sighs, looking elsewhere.

"I guess I want to live peacefully," Diego says, passing a hand through his growing hair. "I lived in prison alone, and I kept telling myself shit. I used to tell myself that I burden you with all my shit, and I ended up hurting myself in the process. I would always think about what Ken and Anna said to me in the past, and it got me thinking bad things about myself, something that shouldn't have happened," He continues.

"But, you will never be a burden to me," I state, feeling an emotion I never have, sadness.

"I know.... But I can't control what I feel; I can't control all of what my head says, and that is why I feel determined.... I want to get more help when this case is over,"

Happiness feels my heart when I hear the words. Diego's theripist is on vacation with his family, because Diego wanted to thank him for helping him.

"I am happy to hear that you are going to do more to help yourself," I smile at him, and he returns the smile. "I will support you in this journey, and I promise to be by your corner if and when the road becomes bumpy."

"I know you will," Diego smiles a genuine smile. "You have always been by my corner, and I want you to know that I will always be by your side, even when you act like an idiot."

We both chuckle when he says the words, I annoy Diego because I want him to smile, and I know that I will continue to try and make him happy.

Diego is the only family I have, and even though we are not related by blood, he will always be my brother.

A brother needs to be by his brother's side.
