《DIEGO'S INNOCENCE》CHAPTER THREE

The man and I walk past the reception area, where I can see a lot of guards with weapons.

I feel like this place is a warzone; everything looks scary and weird. Everyone here looks mascular, armed and strong; they all look dangerous.

"Be careful," The guard says, his eyes ahead. The man has not said anything to me, so I feel awkward; plus he is new to me.

I am a socially awkward person, so it is difficult for me to make friends or just talk around people. I love my peace and silence, people are not my type of thing.

"Why are you telling me that?" I ask in the silent hallway. We have been walking for minutes now and the place is pretty big, I can see some people in black uniforms with the word prisoner on the front.

The prisoners are outside while the guard and I are in the hallway, we are separated by a wire fence.

I can feel their eyes on me which makes me feel nervous, not scared but nervous.

Being scared will not do anything for me. I am already in the cage, so, why not look for the lion?

I walk with my head held high, my hands in the coat's pockets, my knuckles folded into a fist. I did not carry anything with me because phones are not allowed and the files I need will also be given to me.

"Because Diego is dangerous," The guard says when we get to a place that looks deserted. I can see a door at the end of the hallway, but it is the only one here.

"Never get on his bad side and never try to make him talk, let him get comfortable with you first. Talk to him only when he gets comfortable with you. Diego has sent away a lot of lawyers and he is the most feared for a reason." The guard says handing me a paper board with names written on it.

My heart drops to my stomach when I hear the words. Diego, or Mr Martino did commit a crime, a bad one so I understand where the person is coming from. Am I afraid? Yes. Am I going to run? No.

I am not a coward and if I do manage to help Mr Martino then I will have bonus marks to graduate with hopefully a job recommendation.

"I can see from your face that you are a determined person," The guard smiles at me typing something on a tablet that is sat on the table. "You will need the determination to tame Diego."

"Tame? Why should I tame him?" I ask, my eyebrows raised in question. My mind wants to understand what is happening right now and most importantly it wants to understand what the man meant.

"Diego does need taming, the man is kind-hearted in his own way. Ain't you wondering why he is here alone?" The guard asks to which I slowly nod.

"Diego needs help, mental help and also physical. He needs to leave this cage of his: I don't know why I am telling you all this, but I feel like you will be the one to bring him out of here." The man says, the doors open a few seconds after the man finishes talking. My attention shifts to the big door, hoping to see a deprived man but I do not see anyone.

"Where is he?" I ask the man, feeling creeped out, my arms folded on chest.

"Relax." The man says walking inside. "Follow me." The man says, walking further into the room

I follow feeling a bit relentless, I get curious when I step foot in the room.

The room is quite big, like an apartment. It is planted black, but the place does not look like a prison, something I did not expect.

There are sofas in here, a queen-size bed, kitchen, Tv and a lot more.

"Are you sure that this is the right place?" I ask the guard that is looking around.

The guard nods pressing a button, he grabs a file from a small table walking towards me.

The file has Mr Martino's name on top, it is also black in color; I feel like I am in a black hole or something, cause why is everything?

"Yes, it is a jail home for Diego. He was a powerful man outside this place and he still is inside this place, he pulled some strings and they built this for him." The man says, walking around to another door I did not notice.

I can see four doors in here, and I can already tell the man is living a good life. This is not what I expected.

The man knocks twice on the first door. I hear a strong deep voice shout the word enter, which startles me.

The man nods at me, telling me to follow him inside the room. The man walks inside the room with me following behind.

We enter a big looking... Art gallery?

The place has a lot of art pieces on the wall, I look around the place with curiousty till my eyes land on a man, a good looking man with a paintbrush in hand, his focus on the drawing in front of him.

The man is in casual wear, grey sweatpants and a black t-shirt.

His hair set loose, his curls looking wet. I am jealous right now, my hair behaves crazy when even a drop of water comes in contact with it, the shrinkage is another story.

"What is it, Bobby?" The handsome man asks in the silent room, making my insides have butterflies while my legs feel like jelly. Should a voice have such an effect on me?

"I am here with your new lawyer," The man I came here with answers, he must be Bobby.

"What lawyer?" The man asks, surprise in his voice. "No one told me about a lawyer." He says, putting the paintbrush down, his head turning in our direction.

I inhale in surprise when I finally see the man's face. His face is so perfect with all his flaws.

His eyes.... his black eyes are so beautiful. His plump lips look so inviting.

His nose, lips, eyes, long eyelashes, eyebrows... Everything is perfect.

"But, I didn't tell them to get me another lawyer. I have gotten used to this lifestyle, so, why are they trying now?" I hear Mr Martino's voice ask.

I did not notice Mr Martino and Bobby moving towards the corner of the room. I must have been caught up with my daydreams, which are revolving around my new crush.

"B-b-but..." Bobby stutters, his voice holding fear.

"Forget it," Mr Martino murmurs, walking towards me. "Nice to meet you, Ms Rowland," Mr Martino says standing infront of me, his hand stretched out.

I slowly hold my hand out to him, placing it in his. I feel a spark when our hands meet. This man is giving me emotions without even trying.

His eyes and mine meet, and I fail to look away. I want to look in his eyes for the rest of my life.

We stare into each other's eyes till Bobby clears his throat. Mr Martino nods at me walking back to the painting.

"I'm looking forward to seeing you Ms," Mr Martino says, his focus on the painting. "Bobby, make sure you close the door." He murmurs, which tells us that we are dismissed.

Bobby nods at me and we both walk out of the room with Mr Martino's file in my hand.
