《DIEGO'S INNOCENCE》CHAPTER ONE

"Siara!" Mom shouts, making me roll my eyes, a smile forming on my face.

"Mama!" I shout back, knowing that she can hear me.

"Are you done yet? You need to eat your breakfast before you leave!" I am sure the neighbors can hear us, and they live a distance away.

"Yes, Ma! I just need to pack here, then I will be down. Just give me ten minutes!" I shout, walking towards my mirror.

I do not hear Mom's voice anymore, a clear sign that she is no longer waiting for me. I am sure that she will say I am lazy when I get downstairs.

I am lazy so I know that I will not be offended, I need to accept the truth and my new job requires a bit of honesty.

I get the black coat that is hung up on the mirror, I wear it and I love how good it makes me look.

I smile at the girl that is looking back at me, I look good and perfect. I know that no one is perfect and everyone has flaws, but my flaws make me perfect; we are all perfect the way we are.

My black skin looks so smooth, my hazel eyes sparkle as the sun reflects on the mirror, my lips have a big smile.

My face is bare from make-up, my lips have lipgloss but no other products are used.

I do not like make-up, I love seeing my freckles, my eyelashes and eyebrows. I love seeing myself looking natural, my imprecations being seen makes me feel good. I am proud of every wrinkle, pimple, scar and what not; I never want to hide my flaws.

I have nothing against those that wear make-up, but it's a waste of money for me; I like touching my face which ruins all the hard work.

My eyes move down, the mirror is a full body mirror. I can see my whole body and I love the outfit I am wearing.

The clothes were a gift from Dad, he bought them for me when he went to london.

I am wearing black suit pants, a white shirt that has no sleeves, my black coat that is knee-length and four inch black ankle boots.

I have small diamond earrings on, I am wearing a small gold chain as well and my hair is in a big afro puff.

I look like an independent woman, a working lady: and I like it.

I quickly grab my backpack which has my laptop, tablet and all the necessary things I might need today.

I walk towards my bed, getting my phone and car keys.

I rush out of the room, running down the stairs. I sigh in relief when I safely reach the kitchen, I am so glad my ass did not fall down.

I spot my parents sitting on the kitchen island. My Dad is sipping his coffee while Mom drinks some orange juice.

There is food on the kitchen table. I am sure that the two woke up very early for this.

I can see waffles, pancakes, coffee, juice, scrambled eggs, samosas, chicken alfredo and some other stuff.

"Are we having visitors today?" I ask furrowing my eyebrows. My parents get startled, looking in my direction.

"No, it's all for you, my princess." Dad says smiling at me, he walks to where I am, kissing my forehead.

I smile at him feeling happiness, I am a daddy's girl and I love that I am. I am lucky and blessed to have my father with me, some people have never even seen their father before.

My parents and I have a good relationship, they are my best friends. I do have three other friends, but my parents still are my closest friends.

"Finally!" I hear Mom's voice shout. "The princess is finally here. Your lying ass said ten minutes: and it has been twenty minutes now." Mom rolls her eyes at me, pulling me in for a hug.

"I get it from you," I chuckle. "You lie better than I do, so, it's a mother and daughter thing." I say moving towards the chair.

My parents and I sit on our designed seats. My mother huffs out in what seems to be disbelief as my father laughs.

"That is so disrespectful young lady," Mom says placing her hand dramatically on her chest. "I am a very honest woman, ask your father."

"I ain't getting in your conversation," Dad says, smiling at us. "I might end up lying and you know that I hate lies."

Mom and I look at him, knowing that he is saying the truth.

We sit in silence, my family and I hold hands as Dad says grace.

We serve ourselves when he is done, making small talk.

We finish eating after thirty minutes and we all stand up, each one of us getting some plates that are going to be washed by Mrs Smith, our housekeeper.

My family is not rich, but it is not poor as well. We have enough to help us live and enjoy life, which we are grateful for.

We place the dishes inside the dishwasher, and I finally decide to leave, getting my backpack with me.

My parents escort me to my car, standing behind me as I place my things inside my BMW, a gift that I received for my twentieth birthday.

I stand upright when I am done, smiling at them, happiness fills my heart as I see my parents together. Their arms wrapped around each other.

"I'm off now," I say. "I will be late if I don't start off right now."

My mom becomes emotional when the words leave my mouth, my Dad clears his throat forcing a smile on his face as tears drop from my mother's eyes.

"You are grown now. I can't believe that you are the same little girl I drove to school years back. You keep making us proud and I.... we just want to tell you that we love you and may you be blessed in everything you do, my princess." Dad smiles at me, I can see the tears in his eyes and I can feel the tears drop from my own.

My parents and I are dramatic sometimes, and this is one of those moments. I am so very lucky to have them in my life.

I walk towards my parents, throwing myself in their arms. They wrap their arms around me, and we all start crying.

It takes us some time to separate but we do.

"I love you guys." I whisper to them, wiping my tears away.

"We love you too," they reply at the same time. "Now, go before you get late. You have a tendency of being late." Mom says which makes me laugh.

I walk towards them again, kissing their foreheads. They both place kisses on my cheeks and I smile at them.

I wish them goodbye and I finally get into my car.

I drive away from my parents, their figures disappearing as I drive further away from them.

I find traffic when I am near my soon to be work place when I hear a sound from my phone.

I can see a notification that says that I have received a message. I grab my phone from the passengers seat when I see my new boss's number.

Come to the supreme jail at the east side, they will tell you who your first client is. Have a good day and good luck with your new client.

The supreme jail I am requested to go to is for the badest criminals and I am going to stand in court to defend one of them. I do not know if I should be happy or scared because I got a case on my first day.

I sigh out, goosebumps forming on my body. I feel like this day will have a lot of surprises for me.

Lord help me.
