Chapter 59 - The Story of Shu Bai (1)

Qi HongCheng received a banquet invitation last night from Liu Pei, girl from his puppy love.

He realized that he has yet to forget her after all these years.

He met Liu Pei seven years ago and fell in love with her almost instantly. In the four years that they were together, Qi HongCheng gave almost all that he has for her but never crossed that line with her.

Their romance died on the day that marriage was brought up.

When Qi HongCheng’s mother met Liu Pei for the first time, she insisted that she was not a virtuous person. She even threatened to disown him to get the two of them to break up. Qi HongCheng finally gave in to his mother’s stubbornness and, at the same time, started noticing some signs that pointing toward Liu Pei’s cheating. Under pressures from all sides, they finally ended their relationships perfunctorily.

Time did not heal the unreconciled and unjust feelings left inside of Qi HongCheng. As such, he decided to attend the banquet.

In Qi HongCheng’s memory, Liu Pei, whom he hadn’t seen in years, was still incredibly beautiful, articulate, crazily trying to reel him in with her sweet words.

Before he knew it, he was drunk. Liu Pei wrapped her hands around his neck and breathed on him. She told him tenderly that Shu Bai was her little actress. Things would only go well for her if they go well for Shu Bai.

Alcohol had rid Qi HongCheng of all of his rationality. With anger and an unreconciled feeling, he didn’t care about anything else. He wanted a resolution for his feelings that he had over the years. In the dark, that body was fragile and never made a sound.

When Qi HongCheng woke up in the morning, he was startled to learn that the one lying next to him was not Liu Pei but a girl that was much younger than her. She had no clothes on and was has bruises all over her body.

Qi HongCheng felt a sense of chill all over his body as though someone had poured a bucket of icy cold water from his head down. Even the hangover did not stop his mind from clearing up immediately. His heart throbbed. As little feelings as Liu Pei had for him, she wouldn’t stoop as low as sending another woman to his bed, right?

When Shu Bai opened up her eyes, she let out a cry in fear.

She was so scared that her body was shaking.

It was after quite a while before she was able to look over at the man who was not that unfamiliar to her. There were tears in her eyes.

Shu Bai recalled about yesterday, day before yesterday, and the day before that. Liu-jie, her agent, had told her over and over that she did not make Gu YuanChen’s movie, the role of a female supporting character in a modern-day show; not even an extra in a web series.

That was the news that she had been hearing in the past year.

“Shu Bai, if you keep on failing, the company will have no more resources for you. Nor will I have so much more time and energy to put on you.

“Do you remember the Weibo search of you and Lu JingYan? Do you know how many bit parts you will need to be in to have that many fans?

“Shu Yan, you sure you want to hold onto that bottom line of yours?”

That’s what Liu-jie had said to her. There was temptation in her voice and Shu Bai had fallen into deep thought.
