《Greed and Despond (Ban x Sin!Reader)》96

It had been three weeks since the attack of the Ten Commandments, three grueling weeks. They had taken over Camelot, using it as their hub and main base. Grey and Red Demons dominated every region, devouring souls by the thousands, going village, to town, to city. People all around the kingdom fought against them, especially Holy Knights.
However, they were now being targeted, used as bribes to the Commandments to save the lives of villagers for periods of times. People turned against them, and their numbers dwindled harshly. Only those who fought outside of towns or had immense power survived.
The majority of the Sins were out fighting, keeping small towns safe and trying to reclaim Camelot. They and several other powerful beings slaved away daily, hardly getting any sleep as they fought relentlessly. The remaining Holy Knights joined them or fought with others outside of their group.
Elizabeth continued her life in the Boar Hat, she served and gave refuge to Holy Knights, hiding away in the Forest of White Dreams and saving any Knights who made their way there. She used extra rooms, which had belonged to the Sins to harbor those who were injured.
The war raged on, never ceasing. It seemed nobody had time to breathe anymore. In the beginning, when they did, they broke down in tears. Though they were exhausted, most people found themselves thankful for the lack of lulls. They kept themselves busy- constantly fighting and draining themselves left no room to focus on the immense loss in their hearts.
Their chests ached every moment where their attention wavered, the faces of those who had fallen flashing across their eyes. They quickly lost the hurt when another enemy or problem came along, to which they were grateful. Some found themselves elongating battles, even, just to prevent from losing any adrenaline pumping through their veins.
Elizabeth let out a breath of relief, a long day of work over and done with. She looked over to Hawk, who began cleaning up. She was going to ask if he needed any help, but he beat her to the punch.
"Elizabeth, I'm fine! I do this every stinkin' day," He huffed, his face softening, seeing her standing next to the stairs in anticipation. "Go."
She smiled thankfully, rushing up the stairs to the backmost rooms of the bar. There were three separate rooms, each with a sign posted upon them saying "Do Not Disturb." They were the three smallest rooms, but the only ones she could spare. So many Knights needed homes, so she had to relocate their occupants.
She walked into the first room, closing the door gently behind her. She walked up to the open window, closing it, but leaving the curtains open. She walked over to the bed, where the small form of Elaine lay, alone.
She sighed, reaching over to her forehead. She pulled off the now dry towel, dipping it in a small bucket of water on the nightstand and wringing it out until it was damp. She placed it atop her head once again, pulling her blanket off and looking her over for wounds. Just as she had for the last three weeks, she found none. She healed up and down her body again, just to be sure, focusing on her head and chest, where internal injuries were most common. She placed a hand on the girl's cheek, sighing as it gently ran down her face.

She stood up, brushing her skirt down before walking out of the room. As she closed the door, she pressed her head against the wood. She pressed her eyes shut, exhaling shakily. She had yet to show any progress, and her confidence was dwindling. Three weeks of uselessness could really get to a person. She knew the process would be slow, and she told herself she would wait at least a month before starting to give up. But... she had expected something by now. She never thought it would get this far with nothing.
She pulled away from the door, letting her hand linger on the doorway until she got too far from in. She walked to the next room, just next door to that one. She pushed he open the wooden door quietly, knowing that she wouldn't be bothering the man inside.
She walked in, doing the same with his window as she had done with Elaine. She walked to the bed, feeling tears come to her eyes as she pulled down the blanket and stared at his chest.
"Sir Meliodas..." She whimpered, running her hand over one of his seven, jagged scars. She sighed, looking away from him and shutting her eyes tight. It hurt to see him like this- it hurt so much. Every fiber of her being shook when she looked at him like this. In such a vulnerable, decrepit state.
She slowly looked back, reaching out and brushing her hands over his healed wounds. A green orb appeared, healing each of the seven areas for a minute or two on each injury. She checked over his body, as she did every day, for any bruise or cut that she missed. Again, just like the last two weeks and six days, she found none.
She sighed, looking down at him. Her bottom lip trembled, and she laid down on his chest, shutting her eyes tightly as she wrapped her arms around his neck. She let out a quiet sob.
"Hey, Sir Meliodas..." She mumbled, "Today was good again. Another injured Holy Knight came in. He really liked the pie I made him, which is a first, haha... of course, Hawk helped me with it. There isn't much news. Everyone is still out fighting, and the two of them haven't woken up yet. I like to think I'm helping everyone, but..."
She sniffled quietly, rolling herself tighter on his chest, letting her tears fall onto his chest and seep into his skin. "I just really want you to come back... please. I need you here, Sir Meliodas. It's terrible without you here. I miss you so much... I miss you holding me... I..."
She cut herself off, letting out quiet sobs in the silent room, making them much louder than they were supposed to be. It felt like hours- she sat there and cried in his chest, begging him to wake up and hold her close.
When she finished crying, she laid there for a while. She relished in the little body warmth he had from being under the blanket. It was nice, but superficial. It wasn't him. It was his body, but it wasn't Meliodas.
She sniffled as she sat up, pressing a kiss against his forehead. She stared down at his face, smiling sadly at his face. She breathed out shakily, standing up and fixing her skirt again. She looked at him one last time, before looking back at the door. She wiped her face, closing the door behind her as she left.

She leaned back against it, resting her head against the wood. Here came the most difficult of the three.
She walked across the hall, grabbing the handle of the third and final door. She let her hand sit on the handle for a moment. She breathed out, inhaling sharply before entering the room.
She looked on the bed, frowning deeply at the sight. You looked better, but you didn't look as amazing as you usually did. She didn't see your usual animated face, but a dead, bleak expression. You were paler than usual, your attractively muscular frame less pronounced than usual. Even more noticeable, you were redolent of defeat.
She sighed, looking at the man, who was passed out of the edge of the bed, near your hips. His hair was more awry than usual, huge dark bags beneath his eyes. Ban had been here all day, everyday for the past three weeks. He hadn't left the room, not even once. He didn't sleep for days at a time, hardly ever eating. Even when she offered him a meal, Elizabeth found that he barely touched his food. She knew she wasn't the best cook, but she made sure to give the best she and Hawk prepared to the four of them.
"Far too much, far too late, Sir Ban," She sighed quietly, grabbing a loose blanket over him. "But I wish you the best, nonetheless."
She walked over to the window, closing it as she had done twice before. She then walked over to the bed where you lay, a wrap of bandages around your chest. She pulled down the covers, where she had fitted you with comfortable leggings. She had the majority of your torso exposed, but only so she could effectively heal your injuries.
She moved your hair out of your face, recently brushed by Ban, unbeknownst to her. She then worked her way down, focusing on your seven largest stab wounds and healing them as best she could. When she finished, she grabbed your hand and clasped it withing her own, pressing your knuckles against her lips.
She closed her eyes, "(Y/N), you're doing a lot better than you were... you've got some color in your face again. It was weird seeing you so ghostly, you are always so full of life. You still have the scars- I can't get rid of them. But you're fully healed, I think. Besides, I think they make you look cool, haha!"
"Really..? I thought the demon fire powers did that for me... haha..."
Elizabeth's eyes shot open faster than she thought they could, eyes wide as she stared down. There you were, eyes open and lopsided smile spread across your face. You weren't at 100%, not even close. But you were awake.
"Is this happening?" Elizabeth asked, tears already falling. "Are you really awake?"
"This is real, Ellie..." you laughed, wincing as you sat up against the backboard of the bed. "My bad jokes are back, haha."
"(Y/N)!" She exclaimed happily, diving into your arms. You groaned quietly, chuckling. Elizabeth was practically sobbing in your arms, beaming. "I can't believe you're really back! I-I was starting to think you were..."
"What, dead? Psh," You chuckled, "You can't get rid of me that easy."
"I'm so glad!" She cried, sitting up and holding your face in her hands. She stared at you with the biggest smile on her face, sobbing all the same. "I'm so glad you're back! I missed you so much!"
"Don't go soft on me now, I haven't even stood up yet..."
"I don't care, you're back!" She cried, stumbling out of the bed and running into Ban as she did so. She didn't even notice as she rushed to the door. "I have to get Hawk, a-and King and Diane!"
She kept mumbling names as she ran out. Ban snapped awake, looking around the room, startled and discombobulated. He looked around, confused and tired before locking eyes with you.
Your eyes were wide and confused, staring at the man, just realizing he was in here. He felt tears prick at his eyes when he looked at you, moving and awake, no longer a lifeless body in a bed at the back of a bar.
"(Y/N)...?" He asked, voice quivering, "Is it really...?"
"Ban, what are you doing here?" You asked, seeing him in such a decrepit state. You furrowed your brows, your body groaning as you leaned forward and touched his face. How does someone have such tired eyes..? "Are you okay?"
"Am I okay?" He laughed dryly, pulling you into his arms. Your eyes widened, his arms and body wrapping completely around your body. "You were just in a fucking coma... and you're asking if I'm okay?"
What in the... you thought as he pulled away, looking down at you with tears falling down his cheeks. He looked at you with a big grin on his face, taking in every part of you, as if he would never see you again.
"Where's Elaine?" I asked skeptically.
"She's in another room, I think."
"You think?" You asked, narrowing your eyes. "Shouldn't you know where she is?"
"I don't care," He sighed, grabbing your hand in both of his own. "(y/n), I made a really stupid mistake..."
"What?!" Hawk's voice echoed out, followed by the lightning-speed clopping of hooves.
You pulled your hand away, pursing your lips as you looked him up and down hesitantly. "We'll talk about this later."
"(Y/N)'s awake?!" Hawk demanded, skidding into the room. His eyes widened as a huge smile made its way onto his face. He practically tackled you, sobbing hysterically. You coughed at the impact, awkwardly petting him as he sobbed into your chest. "I thought you were deeeeeeaaadddd!"
"Haha, it's okay..." You smiled, pushing him off of you. He looked up at you, sniffling as his nose run and eyes watered. You swung your legs off of the bed, looking at Elizabeth and smiling.
"How about we go get some food, yeah? I'm starving."
