《A Mate for the Latecomer》Chapter 3: Impossible

After an embarrassing entry, I keep grinning from ear to ear. Aberdeen nudged me on the shoulder asking with concern, "are you okay?"

I answer with a smile, "of course, why wouldn't I? Look at me I am perfectly fine." I try to clear away the embarrassment.

I take a look again at the pack house, which is a two-story.

"Not all pack members live here." I hear the beta say probably to Leto and Aberdeen since I haven't talked to him due to my embarrassment.

"My apologies but this is Elle our top warrior," Leto introduces me to the stranger. "And Elle please meet Lucian Kavril. He's the beta for Daluna" he added.

I turn to face the Beta and see his hand extended out to me. I shake it in return.

He eyes me up and down.

'Something you like beta?' Eliz raises her eyebrow in a flirty way. Seriously this wolf will be the death of me someday.

"I must say the design is extraordinary," I say and turn back to admire their packhouse.

"Yeah, our Alpha designed it himself," Lucian proudly responds as he stands beside me with a big smile.

In hearing his words I genuinely smile without faking it.

"It's beautiful," I whisper.

Aberdeen pinched me on the shoulder but I couldn't bother because this house makes me want to own it someday. I know most people want to live in it but I want to own it and there is a difference between living and owning it.

"The alpha is here" Lucian announced, snapping me out of my thoughts.

I look aside and smile at Aberdeen and Leto while we wait for the Alpha to come out. I hear heavy footsteps coming from inside the house as if someone is running.

Suddenly began to feel anxious. My hands were sweating and I fiddle it. It's something I usually do when I am seriously nervous.

Aberdeen slaps me on the back

"What?" I whisper to her.

"Stop doing that. He is not that bad," she scolded me before adding, "besides he is hot except he's you know-" I look at her in confusion and she cheekily wriggles her eyebrow

"Gay," I blurted.

"No, but you'll see," she says and winks at me making Leto growl. "Oh honey shush you're my number one," she tells him and Leto relaxes a little as he stood beside her. His hand goes around Aberdeen's waist.

The footsteps drew nearer that's when I smell a divine scent. Eliz howled in joy as I stood there in confusion.

The door opens, and he came into view as the scent becomes stronger. One word in my head 'damn' while Eliz screams in excitement 'Mate! Mate!'

Another word popped up in my head

'IMPOSSIBLE'

I stagger back and mumble to myself with my thoughts were all over the place now.

'It cannot be,' I deniably mutter to myself. I know for a fact we can never have another mate once your true one is gone.

'Unless,' I shake off my thoughts and look up to see him staring back at me in shock. I abruptly turn my gaze down, head bowing down a little while my eyes go from side to side as my thoughts were everywhere.

Aberdeen shook my shoulder again. "Elle" she whispers to me but I was too lost in my thoughts to notice everyone staring at me.

'This can't be right,' I wanted to scream out loud but then I couldn't.

When my thoughts are calm and I snap back to reality. A feeling of happiness overwhelmed me. I mean he's alive. I turn up again to face him and at that moment I want to run to him and bury my head in his chest while he hugs me.

I started to tear up as I am getting emotional now. Leto's hand rested on my shoulder making me jump a little.

"Hey, are you okay?" he asks in concern and I nodded yes to him before I turn my eyes back to my mate.

Lucian went and stood beside him. "Everyone please meet our Alpha Eric Gibson," Lucian introduce him. Leto moves forward and shakes Eric's hand. Then Leto turned to introduce me and Aberdeen.

I smile at him genuinely thanking the moon goddess for sending him back. She has given me another chance in living this life.

Eric clear his thought and glance at me with coldness evident in his eyes. "Sorry for keeping you all standing here," he says to Leto and ignores me.

'Ouch,' I wince in my head to Eliz.

I try to stay positive and keep on a smiley face for him and everyone else. As he talks to Leto my eyes never left his. I look at him with admiration. Thanking the moon goddess for giving me him.

'My mate'

However, my admiration, gratefulness, and staying positive went out of the window when my eyes settle on his neck.

The smile instantly fell from my face.

"Impossible" I whisper in disbelief at what I'm seeing.

To make everything worse a woman came from inside and stood beside him with her hands going around his waist while smiling at us.

Shutting my eyes, I struggle to hold back my tears. I wanted so bad to lash out at them but I know I cannot create a scene here even though I am entitled to do it.

Once I know I am not losing it I open my eyes and look back at them, linking to Alera, "now I see what went wrong years ago."
