《The Boy with the Beautiful Name》HUMMER

Sara didn't realize her error until the Hummer had dropped her off at home. The large car sat humming away in her driveway. She tried to tell it to drive on, that she was fine, but the car would not budge. She guessed it was somehow programmed to wait and make sure she got into her house safely.

As she trudged up her family's familiar porch steps, she reached into her pocket for her keys. And stopped. Only then did she remember her purse was still in Erin's car.

At the last minute, before she'd climbed out of the car to head to the party, she'd decided to hide her purse under the passenger seat instead of carrying it with her into the house.

"Oh great," Sara groaned. She could only imagine how many missed calls were now on her phone from her parents. Since the sun was directly overhead, she figured it had to be about noon.

She did a quick loop, checking the windows and the back porch. No one seemed to be home.

Luckily, her parents had hidden a spare key under the fountain by the small bathing pool. She dug the key out from under the fairy statue's large wing, and unlocked the back door.

Trash immediately jumped all over her. He barked rapidly for several seconds. Then he stopped abruptly and began to sniff her clothes. He whimpered.

"Yep, Trash. I played with other dogs today. Jealous? There were four!"

Just then, she got an idea.

"Come on, Trash, let's go!" She grabbed his leash and hastily dragged him back out of the house.

To her relief, the Hummer was still in the driveway. It looked very out of place in her quiet neighborhood, like an army tank parked at a picnic.

She cautiously knocked on the driver's window.

Trash tugged at his leash. He frantically tried to chase a squirrel that teased him from high up in a tree.

The Hummer's driver side window automatically rolled itself down. "Everything. All. Right. Sara?" it asked in its strange, robotic voice.

It was sort of creepy, in a way, how almost alive the car was. But since the Hummer belonged to Bentley, she decided she didn't care. It was obviously a high tech toy only the son of a billionaire could afford.

"Excuse me, Mr. Hummer...um...Car Person...Thing." She felt ridiculous talking to a car. "Do you think that um...well...could you please take me and my dog to the local dog park? I, uh, I forgot my purse in my friend's car."

She only had one set of car keys. If she'd let her parents make a copy of them, she wouldn't have been in this situation.

The Hummer's back door popped open. She took that as a yes.

Excitedly, she pulled Trash into the car. But she had to practically drag him in. Trash was still trying to go after the obnoxious squirrel.

Once the Hummer's door closed, Trash began to whimper. It seemed he was well aware that the car he was in was no ordinary car.

"It's okay, boy," Sara said, stroking the dog's fluffy ears. "You're okay. This Hummer is our friend. It's very smart. It knows where to go!"

She hugged Trash, resting her face against his golden fur.

Houses and trees rushed by them as the Hummer scooted along the roads.

Even though Bentley wasn't with her, she felt happy knowing that she was still borrowing one of his mega cool supercars. And that, in itself, made her feel powerful.

The Hummer made a sharp turn and pulled smoothly into an empty space in the parking lot.

Sara squinted through the front windshield. She could see families standing around the dog park. Various dogs ran everywhere.

Then she spotted what she was looking for.
