《My Best Friend's Brother》I Am Not Wiping Your Butt

"Sorry. Sorry. Sorry." I said the word with each step my feet hit down the staircase.
Sarah was positioned on the couch in a way that left enough room for me. I could see the pout across Liam's face as I cuddled up with her.
"What movie do you want to watch?"
I look over to Sarah who looks deep in thought. She pinched her lips together and tapped her chin, "I'm thinking....White Chicks."
Liam palms his face and adds a dramatic eye roll, "Seriously?"
Sarah and I both burst into song, "MAKING MY WAY DOWNTOWN WALKING FAST FACES PASS AND IM HOMEBOUND... DUH DUN DUH DUN DAH!"
Sarah immediately holds her stomach and sides in pain as she tries to stop laughing.
"Can we watch," Liam flipped through a few movies on the screen, "Children of the corn?"
Sarah sighed, "You can stop pretending to be the cool bad boy that likes creepy stuff... you already have the girl, there is no one left to impress."
I smiled at her sentence.
He surrenders and clicks on White Chicks.
Somewhere through the movie I drifted off to sleep, because when I woke up the lights were off and they were asleep as well. Quietly, I pushed Sarah's legs off of me and tip toed to the kitchen to get a drink.
As silently as possible, I grab a glass from the cabinet and the purified water pitcher from the fridge.
I was beginning to pour my glass when I was startled.
"Night owl?"
"Shit!" I jumped, spilling the water all over the counter, "Good God, Liam. You can't just sneak up on people like that."
He grinned, grabbing some napkins, "But you are just so cute when you are scared."

I attempted to make the meanest mugging facial expression I could.
"Do you need to go to the bathroom?"
My face let go of the tension and we both laughed.
"Sarah is out... like out out. She isn't waking up anytime soon."
I start wiping the water up with the napkins, "And?"
"And, it's pretty much just me and you right now."
I toss the napkins into the trash, "Your parents?"
"Asleep," he moved closer and put his arm around me, "Just me and you."
"I am staying the night with Sarah.."
"Who happens to live in the same house as me, magic."
He poked my nose and I felt it wrinkle. He met his lips to mine. For a split moment, I almost gave in.
I pushed away, "Not tonight. Not like this."
His head slowly dropped and he moved to the side so I could go back into the living room.
Sarah must have resituated herself while I was gone, because there was now no room for me to lay beside her.
"You can always sleep on the air mattress."
My eyes went back and forth between him and the mattress, "Liam."
"I won't bite," he tilted his head, "Just lay down."
*********************************************************
"Emilie!"
My entire body tensed and I woke up suddenly.
"EMILIE!"
The top half of my body raised, "What?"
"I have to pee! Help me!" Sarah was trying to get off of the couch.
I rubbed my eyes and quickly assisted her to the bathroom door. She shyly smiled as I waited in the hall, but she stood there.
"What?"
"I need help."
"I'm not wiping your butt."
She rolled her eyes, "No, I can do that part. Just help me on to the toilet. Please."

"How long until you are fully recovered?"
She smiled, "A few weeks."
I helped her get sat down, then rushed back out into the hall until she called me back in.
"Do you plan on going back to school?"
She tilted her head back and forth, "I guess so. Is everyone talking about me?"
I hold her by her hips as we walk back to the living room, "Nothing bad, honestly everyone was worried about you."
"I'm so freaking stupid."
"Hey," I moved in front of her, "Don't do that. You are okay and that's all that matters."
"Emilie," she reached out and held on to my arm, "I was a horrible friend to you, and I'm sorry."
I felt the water working up in my eyes, but I fought it off, "I was a horrible friend, too. And I'm sorry."
"If you two are done making out, I can drive us to grab some breakfast."
Sarah and I both cut our eyes to Liam standing in the corner with his arms crossed.
"Breakfast sounds amazing."
I nod, signaling that I agree.
"Can you do me a favor?" Sarah whispered.
"What?"
She looked over her shoulder at her brother, "He can't know."
My eyelid fall over my eyes, already having to keep secrets. I don't like this, "What is it?"
"I need you to get my phone out of my mothers room."
"Why can't Liam know that?"
"He is the one who put it in there."
Confused, I look over at Liam who is staring with one eyebrow higher than the other. He knows we are talking about him.
"Why did he take your phone?"
Sarah looked down at her feet, "You have to promise not to get mad at me or freak out."
I nod.
"No, you have to promise me."
I whisper, "I promise, Sarah."
Liam strides over to us, "What are you two whispering about?"
"How big of a loser you are."
"Funny," he crosses his arms once more, "I am going to get some shoes on and then I am leaving. So you two have about five minutes to make yourselves presentable."
He leaves us to return to our whispers.
Sarah doesn't speak first, so I break the silence, "Why did Liam take your phone."
She shakes her head slowly, "You will be mad at me."
"No, I won't. But you have to talk to me."
She raised her eyes to meet mine, "He took it because he found out that I was still talking to Heath."
I swallow a lump in my throat as her confession sends me back to his confession in the hallway. Flashes of our conversation makes its way into my mind. Specifically the one where he claimed they slept together.
"Wait, what?"
She held her finger up, "You promised!"
I can't quit shaking my head. I had called him a liar, because I didn't believe that Sarah would be with him, or into him.
"Did you sleep with him?"
Liam makes his presence known, "Did she sleep with who?"
Sarah stood as tall as she could, and attempted to beam with confidence, "Heath Dawson."
