《My Best Friend's Brother》If You Scream

I stare at the clock in Biology 101, only three minutes left until the bell.

"Hey."

I turn to see Grant, "Oh, hey?"

He slides a piece of paper across the desk, and returns back to his work.

Unfolding the piece of paper it reads:

I turn to face Grant, but the bell rings and he is already half way to the door. I slide the note into my pocket and grab my stuff to head to my locker.

"Em!"

I knew who that voice belonged to, but I wasn't ready.

"Em!"

I started walking just a few paces faster.

"Em!" He grabs my arm and turns me to face him.

"Oh, hey."

"I have been yelling for you." He readjusts his backpack on his shoulder.

"Sorry, I have been zoned out. What's up?"

He nervously played with the back of his hair, "Are you busy tonight?"

I flashed to the note that was in my pocket, "Uh, yeah kinda. Why?"

He shifted his weight from his toes to his heels, "Oh, nevermind."

We stand in awkward silence for about fifteen seconds, "Okay, well I have to get to my locker. See you around?"

He nods.

Upon reaching my locker, Sarah is waiting.

"What was up with that?"

I look over my shoulder and see Jackson still standing in the hall, "Oh, that? Nothing."

"Did y'all break up?"

I shook my head, "No, we are just not agreeing right now. It's fine."

She closed my locker after I swapped my books, "Do you want to go to the Diner tonight?"

"I can't."

Her face had confusion written all over it, "You can't?"

I shook my head, "I have this meeting."

The one minute warning bell sounded through the hall. Sarah waved bye and skipped down to her next class. The final bell rang, officially marking me late for class.

"Well, we are already late. Want to skip?"

I turn and see Liam standing behind me.

"No thanks."

He reaches across the space between us and pulls the paper out of my front pocket, "What's this?"

I snatch it back from his hand, "It's none of your business."

"I recognize that writing."

I swallow a lump in my throat, "I don't know what you are talking about. I'm late, I have to go."

"Whose party?"

I turn and start walking to class, but he grabs my backpack. I try to keep walking, but I go nowhere.

Finally I give up.

"Whose party, Emilie."

I sigh, "I don't know."

He pulls the paper out of my hand and reads it, "214 Sun Circle... that's Felix's house. You can't go to that."

"And when did you become my dads replacement?"

He turns the paper around, "Hm, plus one? If you go, I go."

I shake my head and take the invitation back, "No."

"So you aren't going?"

"You aren't going."

I turn to attempt to walk back to class yet again, and this time he lets me.

I pull into my driveway, my moms car is no where to be found. Entering an empty house always has a weird vibe to it. I go to my room and filter through my pile of clothes trying to find a party worthy outfit. My phone begins to ring, and Sarah's picture flashes across my screen.

"Hello?"

"I hate you."

I sigh, "What now?"

She raises her voice to a squeal, "Why didn't you tell me that you are going to a party?"

"Where did you hear that?"

She fell silent, "I overheard it."

I barely give her time to finish her sentence, "From who?"

She huffed, "I overheard Liam on the phone asking someone why they invited you and then he said that you were going to go. Why did you tell him and not me?"

I roll my eyes, "I didn't tell him. He found out."

"Well if you go, I go. Text me the deets."

She hangs up before I object.

Who the hell was Liam on the phone with?

I pick my winning outfit as I take a few mirror selfies. My black holey jeans with a light v neck tank with a complementing choker necklace.

I text Sarah that I am on my way as I turn out of my driveway.

A text comes through my Bluetooth, and my heart drops.

"I wish you would just be honest with me."

I had been avoiding Jackson since the movie, I just wasn't ready to face him yet. I felt bad about it, but at the same time, I didn't deserve what had happened.

Sarah was waiting at the end of her driveway when I pulled up.

"Where is Jackson?"

I shook my head, "He isn't coming."

"What's up with you two?"

I felt my eyebrows push together, "I don't know, S. I think we rushed back into things and I wasn't ready. I don't love him anymore... I just thought I did."

"Woah." She fiddled her finger on the hem of her jeans.

It was quiet for several minutes before I pulled onto Sun Circle.

I parked my car behind a line of other vehicles at the end of the driveway. We both got out and started to walk in, Sarah stopped me.

"You should tell him how you feel."

"I will, eventually. Let's just have fun."

She smiled and slid her arm under mine and we walked into the house full of not just high school kids, but college kids as well.

"Oh my god, is that AJ Vannatta from West Heights?" Sarah jerked my arm until I had a clear view to the tall glass of handsome standing in the corner with another tall glass of handsome.

"Who is the other guy?"

She looked at me like I was ignorant, "Did you just- are you for real- Oh my god, that's Benjamin Lex... the other hottest guy in West Heights."

I nodded, "I can see that."

I start to scan the room for other hot guys, and then I see him. Liam White, standing at the kitchen bar dressed in black jeans and a slim fit white t shirt. My eyes stayed glued to him as a short brunette wrapped her arms around his neck. My entire body tensed.

"Hey, do you want to go get us some drinks?" Sarah pointed to the kitchen, behind Liam.

I nodded and walked towards the kitchen, passing Liam and the mystery brunette.

I search around the kitchen until I find the bucket of ice and beers, grabbing two of them. I turn to head back to Sarah but I bump into someone.

"Oh I'm so sor-"

"It's cool." I look up to match a face to the voice, and it's none other than AJ Vannatta.

I awkwardly smile and tuck my hair behind my ear.

"Mind if I have one of those?" He pointed at the two beers in my hands.

"Oh," I hand him the one in my left hand, "Sure."

He wraps his hand around my lower back and leads me to the hall across from the kitchen.

We weren't even all the way into a room before he had the beers out of our hands and my back pinned against the wall. His hands were running up my shirt. I started to hesitate, and try to pull his hands out of my shirt. His body presses against mine hard, and his mouth runs over my neck. His hands are now grabbing and pulling at my bra, and I try to wiggle myself free. He bites my lip hard, and I try to pick up my leg, but he pins it back with his knee. I squeeze my eyes closed as tightly as I can, and try to hold my tears. His left hand moves from the back of my bra to the waistband of my pants, and attempts to slide his hand under. I scream for help, but he slams his hand over my mouth.

"If you scream, it will make things much worse for you."
