《One of Us》Chapter 42

Justin was on cloud nine as he drove them downtown on his bike the next afternoon. He didn't tell her where they were going, but knew she was going to be shocked. He parked in a parking garage and led her down to street level and stopped in front of a shop that had a heavy door on the front.

"What are we doing here?" Avery asked, trying to figure out what the building was.

"You'll see," he replied as he kissed her hand then pushed a button that was on the wall.

"How can I help you?" the voice asked.

"I have an appointment with Tim Schmidt," Justin replied.

They heard a buzz, "Please come in Mr. Mariner."

Still confused, Avery walked in and stopped when she took in the sight before her. This was a jewelry store and from what she could see, a very high end jewelry store. There were glass cases all over with very plush seats and people standing in expensive clothes smiling at them. Avery looked up at Justin who was just grinning at her and couldn't believe where they were.

"Justin! How are you?" a middle aged man came up and hugged him.

"So good Tim," Justin replied.

"What brings you in? Your text was very vague," Tim asked.

"Well," Justin started, then pulled Avery close to his side, "I need an engagement ring for this incredibly beautiful woman."

Tim's eyes were as big as dinner plates as he absorbed his friend's words, "Engagement ring?!"

Justin chuckled, "Yeah I know. I always said that it wasn't going to happen, but then I met Avery..."

"And things changed," Tim suggested.

Justin nodded, "Yeah, so many things changed."

"I just never thought I would see the day," Tim replied as he led them to a little area and had them sit. He left them to gather a few things and to get started and Avery asked how he knew him.

"Tim's older brother was in the MC and Tim thought about prospecting, but changed his mind, so I have known them for years, "Justin explained, "Tim's brother, Eric, died about nine years ago. He had some health stuff that he didn't take care of properly and it killed him. The MC took care of Tim and his parents-who are both older and not in great health, so he could go to school. He always helps the club if we need it and we help out the shop if they need shipments protected."

Avery nodded and watched the man come back, "Ok so have you thought about what you want Avery?"

Avery shook her head, "I haven't given it much thought until right this second. Can I look around first?"

"Absolutely, just let me know if you want to see something or try it on," Tim smiled, then watched her walk away to look in the cabinets, then turned to Justin, "Price limit?"

"There isn't one," Justin replied, "I want her to have what she really wants. I don't care about the price."

Tim shook his head, "I am still just stumped that this is happening. How did you meet her? When did you meet her?"

Justin watched Avery take in the selection and replied, "She was Lexi's kindergarten teacher."

Tim started laughing, "Ok THAT makes much more sense! You wanted the challenge didn't you?"

Justin just grinned and shrugged. He got up to see what Avery was looking at and was shocked by how small the stones were.

"Baby, these are too small! You need and deserve something much bigger!" Justin insisted.

"But Justin, the prices are going to be crazy!" Avery protested.

"Baby, money is not an object. You can pick whatever you want in this store or if you don't see something you like, we can have them design something for you. You need something that will look perfect on your hand and it has to scream 'MC Queen'," Justin explained.

"But-"

"No buts! Now let's move to a different case to see the bigger ones," Justin insisted and pulled her with him. These were definitely much bigger and flashier, making Avery almost uncomfortable. Tim could see she was struggling and offered to pull some so she could just get a feel for them. Avery agreed, thankful for the rescue. Justin went with him and pulled out different styles for her to try and they all had very large stones. Avery stood by one case and looked intently inside then moved back to Justin when they called her over.

She spent the next 20 minutes trying on the rings and not really liking anything they had picked. There were round cuts, pear shapes and every other shape, but the only thing they really decided on was that Avery really liked the platinum bands and the princess cut. Tim pulled a few more like that and they just didn't feel right to Avery.

"There is one that I kinda liked back there," Avery admitted to the men.

"Show me what you are thinking," Tim said and they went to the last case that Avery was at. She showed him and he grinned broadly at her then had to go sit back down.

"What did you show him?" Justin asked, seeing Tim's reaction.

Avery shrugged, "Just something thought caught my eye..."

Tim brought the velvet covered pad over and laid it in front of Justin and Avery. Tim picked it up and showed it to them, explaining that it was a large four carat black diamond in a princess cut with small rubies around it like a halo on a platinum band in her size. Justin was utterly speechless and just looked at Avery.

"This is really what you like?" He asked.

Avery nodded, "Yes. I think it's gorgeous. Do you like it?"

"Why do you like it?" Justin asked out of curiosity.

"Well, because it looks like a ring fit for the wife of the president of 'Devil's Reign'...It's black, red and silver, just like the club's colors..." Avery explained, hoping like hell that she had made a good choice.

Justin felt his love for her grow by 1000% when she explained to him why she liked it. It meant she truly accepted him and his life. That meant so much to him, he didn't know how to convey that to her.

He nodded his head at her," I think it's beautiful and perfect for you. I can't tell you how much it means to me..."

Tim cleared his throat, seeing how emotional they both were getting, "There is also a matching wedding band that fits it as well as a man's wedding band too."

He showed them the thin band with alternating black diamonds and rubies for her and the wide dark metal and black diamond band for him.

"Wow..." Avery commented as she touched them, "They are incredible! But are you even going to wear a wedding band? Do the men in the club do that?"

"Of course I'm going to wear one! I want to be claimed by you too Baby," Justin scoffed, "Should we get them?"

Avery nodded and watched as Justin picked up the large ring and slid it on her left hand, "Marry me Avery."

"Yes," she replied and he kissed her gently right there.

"I'll just get the others wrapped and finalize the bill," Tim said, "And congratulations again."

They both thanked him even though they were still only looking at each other. Justin reached into his vest and pulled out his wallet and pulled out the first card he touched and handed it to Tim. Tim just grinned as he watched them stare at each other and finished the paperwork. He finally got Justin to look at him long enough to sign the slip and hear that she needed to bring it in to be checked every six months for the warranty. Justin nodded his head in agreement, took the two boxes that held the other rings and pushed them into a pocket in his kutte. They walked hand and hand out the door and back to his bike.

He kissed her until they were both breathless, then said, "There is something we need to do," and had her get on the bike. They sped off and went to his thinking place, but instead of stopping where they usually do, he maneuvered the bike into the trees where they had their first date and finally turned the bike off.

"What are we doing Justin?" She asked, fixing her sundress from the wind. It always made her nervous riding in a dress, but she found a way to tuck it around her so she didn't flash everyone.

"There is something that I have wanted to do for a while and I think that it's appropriate now that you are my ol' lady AND my fiancé," He said looking at her with a gleam in his eye, "Now scoot up on the bike seat and put your hands on the handlebars and no matter what happens, don't let go until I tell you. OK?"
