《One of Us》Chapter 9

Justin was nervous. He was being ridiculous and he knew it. But this wasn't something he had felt since he was 15 years old and he was going to have sex for the first time. He had no idea why this date meant so much to him, but it did. It didn't help that Kiki and Mitch totally busted his balls when he let it slip he was going on a date. They both reminded him that he didn't date, he fucked women on his time table and never let any one of them hang around when he was done, unless he wanted them to.

And as Kiki reminded him, "You don't 'do' relationships." When he didn't answer them, they started in on who it was and he left quickly, flipping them off and making them laugh.

He stood in front of the mirror in his bathroom and looked to make sure he looked ok. What the hell was wrong with him?! He didn't primp in front of the mirror for anyone and here he was, checking to make sure his shirt wasn't wrinkled under his kutte and his jeans didn't have any stains on them. He shook his head, sprayed some cologne, then left the bathroom.

He climbed onto the back of his bike and pulled out his phone, "Hey prospect! You have everything ready like I asked?...Good. I'll be there in 25 minutes."

He put his phone away, started his bike and drove off.

Avery was a nervous wreck. She hadn't been on a date in months and now she was going out with a man that she shouldn't be attracted to because of how she was raised and who her father was. God, if her aunt ever found out, she would chew her ass! But somehow all that was in the back of her mind as she looked in the mirror, checking to make sure that the black sweater she was wearing looked ok with the jeans she had on.

Justin hadn't said otherwise, but she assumed he would be on his bike so she wasn't going to wear a skirt or dress. She felt a little strange wearing jeans on a first date, but she didn't think she had any other option. She just hoped she looked good enough to be out with the king of hot bikers. She turned and saw her ass looked pretty good in the jeans and slipped on the black ankle boots and touched up her lipstick. She checked her purse to make sure she had everything and then froze when she heard the knock on her door.

Taking a deep breath, she calmed herself then opened the door to find the King of Middleton smiling at her, "Hey Baby. How was your day?"

She smiled softly, "Not too bad. Come in while I get my coat."

He watched her walk to the couch and pick up the light coat and put it on, making the black sweater she was wearing tighten across her chest. He felt his dick start to stir and knew this was going to be a long night if he couldn't keep his fucking hormones under control.

She turned and grabbed her purse, "I'm ready Justin."

He smiled and pulled her close to his chest, "You look beautiful Avery."

She blushed, "Thanks..."

Justin gently pressed his lips to hers for just a moment, "Let's go Baby."

He followed her down the steps where his bike was waiting. He handed her a helmet and helped secure it under her chin, then explained how to get on behind him. She followed his directions and sat behind him.

"Now you have to hold on tight," He instructed.

"Hold on to what?" She asked, looking for a handle.

"Me," He smiled and helped pull her arms tight around his waist, forcing her against his back. She could feel the contours of his stomach, back and the strength in his thighs. Her breath caught as she slowly moved her hands to explore some, making Justin stay still and try to get himself under control.

She moved up his chest some and he hissed, "If you don't want me to pick you up, push you against your building and fuck you senseless right now, you better stop moving your hands Baby."

Avery stopped immediately, "I'm sorry..."

He patted her hands, "All good."

He revved the engine and pulled out. Avery had never been on a motorcycle before and at first she was scared. But the fear quickly left and she was exhilarated and it really felt like she was flying. It was the most freeing feeling she had ever had in her life. She laughed as she felt the wind whipping around her and Justin chuckled at her excitement. He had very few women on the back of his ride, mostly his sister and people he considered family, but she was by far the most excited about the sheer happiness that riding on a bike could bring. It made his feelings for her even more confusing than they already were.

He turned down a dirt road and drove to a grove of trees. He parked the bike and helped her off, took her helmet and set it on the seat. She turned as he took her hand and walked toward a grove of trees. She noticed a man with a kutte on and wondered what he was doing here. They walked into the grove of trees and Avery stopped and gasped.

"What do you think?" Justin asked, squeezing her hand, nervously.

Avery saw the fairy lights hanging from the trees, a blanket on the ground and two small portable heaters around it, "It's beautiful!"

Justin felt his chest puff out a little in pride, "I'm glad you like it. Let's sit."

He helped her to the ground and sat next to her and opened the picnic basket, pulling out little containers of finger foods, napkins and two bottles of beer. She was impressed with the spread and looked around to the quaint little area and noticed the man still standing at the entrance to the grove.

"How did you know about this place?" Avery asked after taking a sip of the beer.

"I've been coming here since I could drive or ride. I come here to think and get away from it all," Justin shrugged.

"So you brought me to your quiet place?" Avery asked, watching him.

"Thought it would be a good way to get to know each other," Justin smiled.

"And how many other women have you brought to your 'quiet place'?" Avery asked, with caution.

Justin grabbed her hand, making her look at him, "None. I told you this is the first date I have been on in years. Actually, since I was in high school. There is no way that I would bring some sweet butt or club whore to the place I go to think."

"Then why bring me here?" Avery asked, confused.

"I already told you Avery, you are different," Justin reminded her, letting go of her hand and gently caressing her cheek.

Avery swallowed and nodded, "Do you know why that man is still here?"

Justin looked behind him, "Oh that's a prospect, Cole. Good kid. He and another prospect, Marco, set this up for me. Marco is over to the left, keeping watch and Cole is keeping watch up front."

"So they are going to be here the whole time?" Avery asked, trying to process everything.

"Yes, they are here to protect me, protect you."

"Protect us from what?" Avery asked with wide eyes.

"I'm the president of a large MC, Avery. There are others that want to do us harm- me harm and harming the President while he is on a date and distracted is a good way to get things done," Justin explained.

"Oh..."

"Is there anything you want to ask Avery? While I can't answer everything, I'll tell you what I can."

Avery was slightly overwhelmed, "Can we talk about something else first? I need to process the thoughts in my head."

Justin smiled, "Sure. So tell me about you, Avery."

"Ok, It's not really that great of a story." She assured him.

"Oh I find that hard to believe," Justin smirked.

Avery smiled, "Well, I graduated three years ago with my degree in elementary education. I have been substitute teaching ever since."

"Why didn't you get a full time job?" Justin asked.

Avery licked her lips, "I had some health stuff come up and had to recover from that. Then my father was killed and I just wasn't in a place where I could handle a full time job."

"What about your mom?" Justin asked, his heart hurting for her.

"My mom was at the World Trade Center on a business trip with a few others in her company on September 11th...I was four years old..." Avery replied softly.

"Jesus, Fuck Avery. I am so sorry!" Justin answered, taking her hand again.

"Thanks," She said, shrugging, "I don't remember much of her...It was just me, my dad, my Aunt Tina, my honorary uncle and his kids."

"Did you have a good life growing up?" Justin asked, watching her delicate features as she ate and talked.

"It was good. My dad spoiled me and kept me pretty protected, along with my Uncle Gio. His boys are like my siblings. My Aunt Tina was great for girl talks and all the female stuff," Avery said, licking the salt off her fingers.

"So your Aunt and Uncle have a couple of kids?" He asked, wanting to know more.

"Oh no. Aunt Tina is Daddy's sister. Uncle Gio was Daddy's best friend," she clarified. The both took another drink for a moment, then he asked another question.

"So if you don't mind me asking, what was the health stuff you mentioned," Justin asked cautiously.

Avery looked at him with apprehension, "Well I was born with a congenital kidney defect that we didn't know about until I was eight. I had to have surgery to reposition the ureter so I stopped getting UTI's. Seemed to work well and I didn't really have many problems until I was 22.I got really sick and we discovered that the kidney that was defective wasn't functioning and had to come out. So, I had a kidney removed and for lack of a better term, they had to reroute my plumbing."

"Wow, Baby, that sounds like shit! Are you ok now?" Justin asked, stunned.

"Yeah for the most part. I get checked out every year and take care of myself. Lots of people live with one kidney, so it's not really a big deal," Avery explained.

Justin smiled softly at her and patted her hand, "And you do take care of yourself, that's for sure!"

Avery giggled and rolled her eyes, "Yeah whatever."

"So what about your dad? How did he pass?" Justin asked.

"He was killed on the job...I heard it was pretty bad," Avery said, "Had a good funeral...The service was beautiful. Lots of his co-workers were there. Aunt Tina and I were really taken care of."

"That's good Baby, I'm glad that people were there for you. Support is important," Justin agreed.

"Yeah, the thin blue line is a family all of its own," She said before taking another drink of beer.

:Justin choked on his bite, "Your dad was a cop?"

Avery nodded timidly, "Yeah, ironic isn't it...you and me on a date..."

Justin sighed, "Yeah ironic doesn't begin to describe it. Where did you live?"

"In Oakville."

Justin tried to think if he knew anyone in Oakville and couldn't think of anyone off hand. He was going to have to have his secretary, Hank, look into it and Stevo dig deeper into her background. He was still coming up with nothing on her. Third biggest city in the state and he was totally enamored with the daughter of one of its finest.

He smiled tightly, "Well how did you end up here?"

"My aunt had a friend that lives close by and heard that the academy needed a long term sub that may turn into a permanent job. So I applied, got the job, found an furnished apartment to rent for the semester and here I am," She simplified.

"And here you are," he echoed with a wink.

She blushed and they ate a little bit more before he asked, "No boyfriend?"

She shook her head, "Not anymore. Zach didn't like my scars, found them too offputting to be with me anymore."

"Well, he was the biggest fucking idiot on the planet. But can I just say that I am more than happy to pick up where he left off!!" Justin grinned.

"I bet you are," she laughed.
