Chapter 40:
"Landon! Could you come here for a second?" I heard Embre call out to me and placing the remote down after pausing the tv, I went to go see what she wanted.
"Yes?" I asked, seeing her sitting on the bed with her legs crossed in nothing in my t shirt and I grinned seeing her with a faint smile lingering on her face.
"I got you something." She grinned before pulling a long narrow red box from behind her back.
"For me?" I walked over to her before sitting on the edge with my left knee bent. "We're getting each other gifts now?"
"Yeah, I hope you like this one. It was kind of last minute unlike your birthday gift."
"Alright." I tried to guess what it is. "It's not a necklace right?"
"And if it was." She teased with a wiggle of her head towards me.
"Then I would say thank you." I chuckled before lifting up the box. "What's this?"
Placing the top lid down on the bed, I turned the box to the side to see a stick with a cap, reading the only word that was on it, my eyes widen before looking back up at her. "Wait.. you're pregnant?"
"Yeah." She sounded happy about it and I realized that's what she was smiling about.
"Holy shit.." I looked back down at the stick. "You peed on this?"
"Well I kind of had to." She trailed off and when I looked back up, she was looking at me like she was trying to read my reaction correctly.
"So my baby is having my baby." I grinned before sitting the box down. "We're going to be parents." I didn't mean to jump her but I couldn't contain my joy. She squealed after wrapping her arms around me and together we both rejoiced.
"But when did-"
"Almost three weeks ago."
"Three weeks ago.. three weeks ago." I tried to remember then it clicked. "Oh, I apologize."
"Yeah you couldn't contain yourself so this is what happened."
"In my defense I did use a condom, it just didn't work out well."
"There only 97% effective."
"So the only three had other plans."
"So you're not mad?" She asked curiously.
"Why would I be? What did you think I was going to say?"
"That we're too young, and you don't like babies." She sheepishly said, trying to hide herself into me so I wouldn't see her blushing face.
"It's not like we don't have money to take care of him or her, we're set. And for babies, I love them. I just haven't been around them and quite frankly I don't know if I would be a great father."
"Why?" She came out from hiding. "I don't think I would be a good mother either."
"Oh hush." I pecked her nose. "You're too sweet not to be a mother and you're gentle, kind and selfless and you love easy that's how you fell in love with me and me on the other hand I'm the opposite."
"I don't think so." She chimed in, pushing me on my back to straddle me. "You described yourself as well, I think you'll be a excellent father. Just no cursing."

"Yeah I wouldn't want her to have my mouth."
"Her?"
"I have a feeling it's a girl."
"It could be a he."
"Then he would definitely have my mouth." I chuckled. "Better safe than sorry."
"You want a son?"
"A little mini me? Yeah sure, the toddlers are just going to have watch out for him." She smacked at my chest playfully. "If our baby turns out to be a girl we can always try again."
"You want more?" Her eyes widen before she sat up and I did too, not letting her escape.
"Wouldn't you want them around the same age? And yes I do, with you."
"I'm your first baby mama." She joked and I joined in with her but it wasn't going to be for long.
"And you'll be my last." I kissed her nose. "Now about earlier.." I sealed my lips over hers. "I think I want unwrap my other gift."
"There wasn't another gift..." I lifted her shirt and she flinched from my cold hands and I felt her shudder realizing what I meant.
"I call top."
And I wouldn't have it any other way.
I didn't go to sleep right after, my mind still trying to wrap around this newfound information and it made me want to to continue my plan.
Slipping out of her embrace, after she stirred twice, the blanket that consumed her slid down revealing her once small to now swollen breast and I turned away from her, I didn't want to wake her up she needed to rest.
Going downstairs to my study, I opened the bottom drawer to reveal the velvet satin square box and sitting down I ran my forefinger across the top of it.
I don't know how long I sat there but it was for awhile. Opening the box, there sat the ring that I had purchased a few days ago.
Was it too rushed? Would you she say yes? She probably know thinks I would only ask her because she was pregnant but that was far from the truth.
Deciding to leave my thoughts, I placed it back where I had it before going back upstairs in hopes to sleep.
"Where'd you go?" She was sitting up with her back pressed to the headboard.
"Wondering the house, making sure it was locked." It was a quick curt lie that would be believable, I couldn't just say I was thinking of ways to propose, no big deal.
"Couldn't sleep without me?" I asked pulling the duvet over me and on cue she snuggled closer to me.
"What's-" She starts.
"Nothing." I cut in.
"Landon."
"Nothing's wrong, go to sleep baby." I rested my chin on top of head. "It's been a long day."
"Is it the baby?" She asked anxiously.
What?
"No, you're overthinking, just go to sleep." Hoping she would just listen to me.
"Tell me." She pressed and I sighed before sitting up.
"You can't just take my word for it?"
She sat up as well, folding her arms across her chest- she had put on my shirt again probably from the cold.
Here we go.
"Is it bad?" I shook my head no, I wasn't in the mood for this. She narrows her eyes at me, testing me to see if I show any emotion if I'm not and I keep a straight face. "Okay if you say so." She says and I feel my shoulders drop.

She lays back down and so do I, bringing her to me, wrapping my arms around her like before. "You think too much." I tell her and she looks up at me.
"Sometimes I should, you worry me too much."
"I'm right here" I kiss her forehead. "I'm not going anywhere."
"You better not." She said sternly, feeling her hand graze my back and soon we both fell asleep.
••••••
"Who was that?" Landon asked me after seeing me get off the phone.
"Adaline, I was telling her that I was okay." And that I'm pregnant.
She took it well.
Ten minutes earlier:
Caller ID: Adaline.
"Yes?" I whispered into the phone for some reason.
"Don't yes me, what's going on? You forgot to call, are you-"
"Pregnant." I finished for her.
I hear a thud in the background. "Hold on." She winced abruptly.
"What's wrong?"
"Jesus, I fell off the damn bed, hold on." She confirmed. "Okay, so what now? You said you're pregnant?"
"Yeah."
"Does he know?"
"Yeah."
I hear her but she seems to far away from the phone.
"Move Josh, I'm sorry. No I didn't-" I hear a door close and she sighs.
"Just great." She mumbles to herself.
"You can call me later if-" I start.
"Oh no, I'll deal with him later, why doesn't anybody understand morning breath?" She asks and I laugh.
"I don't know."
"It's not funny! I'm on the phone with Embre, you need to learn how to laugh at jokes." I heard from the other end.
"Adaline stop being mean."
"Oh that was mean?"
"We'll talk later, go deal with Josh."
"Fine, I'll call you later if I don't see you."
"K, bye." I hung up the phone.
"You think we should tell our parents?" I asked shifting from one foot to the other.
"Yeah we can.." He stopped. "Your Dad wont try to kill me right? It was an accident."
"I make no such promises."
"Alright I'm going to go call them, I'll be right back."
I look through my contacts and I spot the number I'm looking for. It rings for a couple of seconds before I hear her voice. "Hello? Embre?" She asks. I haven't heard her voice in a long time it seems like.
"Hey mom, it's me."
"Sweetie, how have you been?" She sounded ecstatic and I hoped she was continue being in this mood after I deliver the news.
"I'm good Mom, I'm good. Uh I have something to tell you."
"Oh goodness, is it good or bad?"
"Uh, good I think.. I'm not sure."
"Alright then spill, I'll let you know if it's good or not."
"Okay well.. I might be pregnant?"
It was silence on the other end of the phone. "What did you say?"
"I said I'm-"
"Yeah I heard that part, when did you have a boyfriend? Are you two still together?"
"Yes, it just sort of happened."
"Happened? Embre you finally lost your v card, I'm so proud! I thought you were a lesbian."
"Mom!" I exclaimed. "What? No."
"I didn't expect a baby to come from it? So tell me was he experienced? Did he know how to put it on right?"
"Mom, I can't believe I'm having this conversation with you!" I walked out the room from Landon's hear range.
"You're the one that's pregnant dear and I have five children, you weren't a test tube baby."
"Okay, I understand." I tried not to throw up in my mouth.
"And when am I going to meet him?"
"You want to talk to him?"
"Sure, why not. I need to get to bottom of who knocked my little girl up."
"It isn't like that, I love him Mom."
"Oh do you?" She teased. "Who said it first?"
"He did as a matter of fact." I said, walking back into the room. "Here he is." I held the phone out to him.
His eyes widen like saucers before taking the phone from me. "Hello?"
I couldn't hear what my mother was saying but I hope she didn't say anything out of the way but seeing his facial expressions, I could tell it was going semi great before he chuckled into the phone. "Yes, I'm the Landon Hale as you put it ma'am."
"No ma'am, it wasn't like that. Yes. 26. I have good intentions, Mrs Daniels. Okay I will, give me a second." He pulled the phone away from his ear before he mouth that he would be right back and I stand planted no matter how bad I wanted to follow after him.
He returned a few minutes with a grin on his face and he handed me back my phone. "You didn't tell me he was a millionaire!"
"Mom, you're a lawyer. You make good money as well."
"Not like that I don't! If it wasn't for me being on bed rest-"
"You're not sick are you?"
"Oh god no, I broke my hand.. how I did it I will not tell you but I should have been charged with assault, but any who your Dad should be back soon."
"No it's okay, I'll call him myself."
"He owes me his next paycheck." I could almost feel her grin from over the phone.
"You bet on me?"
"Yep sure did, your sister is becoming a pain in my ass though. She might have to be shipped off the military camp."
"She wouldn't survive."
"It'll teach her some manners." She countered back. "What are you doing tomorrow?"
"Nothing that I am aware of it." I watched Landon put on some jeans for the first time.
"Well my medicine is kicking and I want you hearing me snore I'll see- talk to you soon okay?"
"Okay, I love you."
"I love you too." And she hung up.
"Where you going?" I asked, throwing my phone on the bed.
"We are going to the doctors office, I looked up you need to be on prenatal pills or something? We have to make sure the baby's healthy."
"Okay, let me get dressed."
It registered with me that this was actually real and I was about to go to my first doctors appointment in a while and it wasn't because I was sick..
