《Little Love》34. I Love You

It didn't take long until I was laying on my bed, staring at the phone. Luckily, when me and Grey got back, Jade and Sam were somehow still sleeping, with Sam resting her head on Jade's shoulder and Jade curling around her. I laughed and took a few photos before waking them up to go and do something. We ended up lounging in the living room for a few hours before they left, leaving me to deal with my mother.

All she had said was that she missed me - it wasn't as if she had asked to see me, or wanted anything from me. Taking a deep breath, I tried to quiet my thoughts and quickly, I typed out my response and sent it before I could get too worked up about it.

Hi.

I groaned and threw my phone away from me, trying to fight away the embarrassment. Awkward couldn't even cover that response.

How did I go from best friends to my mother to not even be able to have basic small talk with her?

It only took a minute or so before the phone buzzed and I quickly picked it up, turning it over to reveal the screen.

How are you?

Hesitantly, I typed out my response.

I'm good, thank you. How are you?

The little typing bubble popped up before another reply came through.

I'm well. How's Alex?

A twinge of unease shot through me at her sudden interest in Alex. I was pretty sure he was still in contact with both parents, so why she was asking me about him was a little confusing.

He's okay.

He's taking proper care of you?

Her reply came quickly.

Yes.

Good, I'm glad. I worry about your shy nature sometimes.

What? Where was she going with this? Why was she worried about me if she was the one to cut me off? And I thought she always had an issue with me being shy. She always pointed it out when I blushed and would continually tell me to speak up, which only embarrassed me and made the situation worse.

And your schooling? I understand that you were passionate about certain subjects.

Classes are going well, thank you. I've met plenty of interesting people there.

Interesting was an understatment.

I'm glad. Have you recieved your gift?

A gift?

Yes. Your father and I sent you a gift recently, as we missed your Birthday.

I couldn't help the grin that suddenly appeared on my face. Even after all that had happened, she had still sent me a gift. I tried to brush away the waves of appreciation, but couldn't fight off the hope that we could fix the rift between us. Maybe she was more accepting of the path I wanted to take in life, and we could patch it up and I could go home again. Would I even want to go home though? I mean, I hadn't seen my brother in years before this, and I would miss him so much, not to mention the fact that I had Grey now.

No, I haven't, but will ask Alex if there's been a recent delivery.

I hope you like it, it took time to choose the right one for you.

Thank you.

I hope we can talk at a later date, however I have to go to a meeting now,

Sure, we can talk later.

Okay, stay safe.

And you,

I love you.

Any previous suspicion was now obliterated by her statement. I wasn't sure how my father was, but I for sure had my mother on my side now. He loved my mother and I knew that soon enough, he would come around again. I would be able to at least visit her often, and get my best friend back, and things could go back to the way they used to be. Quickly, I typed back my response and hit send.

I love you too.
