《Little Love》21. Thursday

Wednesday seemed to pass in a pink and yellow haze, and it wasn't long until I was at home on the Thursday evening, waiting for Greyson to tell me when we were going. My mind was drifting as I lay across my bed, scrolling through Instagram and kicking my legs in the air. Everyone in England was messaging me, sending me all kinds of funny snaps, but after the first few, I couldn't be bothered to answer them.

It was around half eight when he finally knocked on my door, slowly opening it when I called out.

"You ready to go?" I nodded, standing up quickly and brushing off my skirt. He took his time, slowly looking me up and down, before giving a small nod and turning around to go. I trailed after him like some kind of lost puppy, taking two quick steps for every slow one of his. Luckily, he wasn't dressed too fancy, so I guessed we were just going to some kind of cafe or fast food place.

When we finally got down to the car, he unlocked and, before I could, pulled open the door for me. I blushed and murmured a quick thank you under my breath, climbing in the car and waiting for him to sit across the other side. I wish I could've somehow caught that on camera, the cheesy moment too sweet for me to want to ever forget.

"Where are we going?" I asked, once we had pulled out and were driving away. We weren't following the usual routes to somewhere I had been before.

"It's a surprise," He said, turning on the radio to soft music. I sat back and looked out of the window, watching as the houses and streets slowly turned into trees and paths. I looked over at Grey, who seemed content to drive in the silence, before looking back out of the window. Wherever we were going, it appeared to be quite remote.

He cut the engine and jumped out of the car, making his way over to my side and opening the door for me once more, offering his hand to take. My face turned red again as I reached out, using his hand to pull me out of the car. He kept my hand in his as he shut the car and locked it, threading his fingers through mine. I stared at our hands, still shocked at the size difference. His hands were far too big, and mine were far too small, and yet when laced together, I couldn't help but think that they were the perfect size for each other.

He led me down a smaller path than the others, and for a second, I was a little worried, but brushed off the thought quickly when I saw the glowing coming from the trees.

"What..." As I looked closer, I could see the fairy lights twinkling, even in the evening light. I gasped softly and followed them with my eyes as we walked closer, following until they fell into a clearing, dripping down from the trees to light up a small area of grass, over looking a lake.

"Grey..." He pulled me over to where a soft blanket was laid out, a classic picnic basket sat on one of the corners and a bucket of ice with drinks in next to it, the ice somehow not melted yet.

"It's a lot, I know, but I wanted to make our first date special..." My heart sped up when he confirmed that this was a date. Did this mean he liked me? Did that mean I liked him?

"Come on, let's sit," He said, leading me over to the blanket. I knelt down, him sitting next to me, watching as he leant over and started pulling stuff from the blanket. He pulled out some of my favourite sweets and chocolate, a box of donuts, and boxes from a Chinese take-out. He then pulled out a tablet, opened it up and quickly fiddled around with it for a minute, before setting it in front of us, and I saw that he had put on a Marvel film. My heart melted at his gesture, and I felt like crying at the sweetness of it all.

"Grey, you really didn't have to, this is so sweet..." He looked over at me, and I saw his face turning a little red. At least I knew that I wasn't the only nervous one.

"I wanted to make it special. You deserve the best, now come on, let's watch the movie," He stood up and walked over to where I just noticed a box sat and pulled out pillows and blankets.

"I didn't want you getting cold, as it's quite late. I wanted you to actually be able to see the lights," I smiled, looking around where the trees circled us, the lights swaying slightly with the gentle breeze.

"I love the lights, Grey," He gave me a small smile and leant over to play the movie, leaning back onto all of the pillows he had bought over. Slowly, I leant back too, watching the movie with him, my heart silently melting. I never realised that he could be this thoughtful, knowing that with any other boy, I probably would've had the same experience as most of my friends; they get a bad meal with too much awkwardness, then a hook up after, in hopes that "They're better in bed than in romance,".

I sighed, perfectly content, as we sat there together, snacking and drinking soda whilst watching one of the (in my opinion) greatest movies ever created. Towards the end of the movie, just as they were winning their fights, I flickered up my eyes to Grey, who seemed happier than usual, his face relaxed. Slowly, I shifted my hand closer to his, until our pinkies brushed. Without looking at me, he turned his hand over and threaded his fingers through mine, not saying a word. I couldn't stop smiling and, when I looked up to him, I saw that he had a small smile across his face too.
