《Little Love》10. Coffee

I walked out of the class in a trance, completely shocked at how the class had gone. After babbling on for twenty minutes straight, he finally let us get started, and today, we were to paint still life's. I had began to paint the art supplies in front of the huge window, capturing the light and the scenery of the campus behind. After sketching everything out, I had gotten down a quick wash, and even the first layer, but as I had just started on the detail of the pot of paintbrushes, the teacher had strolled over. He struck up conversation, and I don't know how, but he had somehow turned the conversation into a debate with himself about whether art should be a core subject or not. Obviously me being polite, turned to listen to him, and then was shouted at for not working, and he then scolded me in front of everyone about my technique, or lack of.

But that wasn't all. Once he had finished with that, he then turned to the class and said, "This is what a true artist looks like," motioned to me, and left again, leaving me in shock.

"Boo!" I squeaked, jumping away from whoever had scared me. Obviously, it was my brother, who, picking up quickly on my demeanour, asked if I was okay, concerned.

"Um, yes, I think..." I gave him a weak smile, and he smiled back in return, taking my art folder to carry for me.

"So, most days, we all sit in the cafe between classes, so feel free to come and sit with us whenever. Usually, at least one of us is in there, and if we're not, someone else from the team probably will be." I nodded, following him. We walked straight to the middle of the campus and to a cute cafe, which looked to be apart of a chain, with modern interior.

"Alex! Over here!" Kaiden called out, already sat with Greyson. I blushed as we made eyecontact, remembering the way he had held my hand the whole way between classes.

"Do you want me to order for you?" Alex asked. I nodded and took my folder back, making my way over to their table. I sat opposite Greyson and next to Kaiden, dropping my bag to me feet. Kaiden smiled at me, but returned his eyes to his phone, leaving me sat there awkwardly. I bent down and pulled my tablet out of my bag, deciding that I could keep going with my recent commissions. I had a few lined up that I would have to start soon, and I knew that the sooner I finished the concept art, the sooner I would find the motivation to actually start the painting. I flicked the case off the screen and pulled out the screen pen and started sketching out the first commission I saw which didn't ask for a specific image. They had sent me and image to loosely use, but they wanted it in mainly my style, and gave me full reign over it.

I was experimenting with positioning the focus as Alex walked over, a tray of coffees and a stick of chocolate-coated marshmallows. He grinned and handed me the sweet treat and a hot chocolate.

"You still like marshmallows, right?" I grinned back, nodding my head. He put the tray down and settled back into his seat, sipping on a coffee. We sat in silence and after a minute, I picked up my phone and head phones, sitting further back into my seat and pulling my feet up, thankful for the peaceful quiet.

We sat for a few minutes, Kaiden and Alex occasionally commenting on something, me and Greyson occasionally making awkward eye contact, until it was time for my next class. I packed up my tablet and kept my headphones in, standing up and getting ready to leave.

"What've you got next, Love?" Kaiden asked, sitting forwards slightly.

"Um, music tech." He smiled.

"I can walk you there, if you would like? My class is nearby, and I have to get there in five minutes anyways." I nodded, glad that I wouldn't have to search it out. He stood up and led the way out as I waved to my brother and Greyson.

"So, how were you classes?" Kaiden asked, trying for conversation. I smiled and turned my music down, taking earphone out too.

"Strange. In my first class, the teacher didn't want to be there, and in my second, he completely had a go at me, and then called me a true artist?" Kaiden chuckled.

"Strange. Why did he do that?" He asked, allowing me to go into my story of my slightly crazy art teacher. He pitched in with his own story of his art teacher in high school, who ripped up all of his work in a fit of rage, and then burst into tears when Kaiden laughed.

"That was so mean to laugh at him though! He was obviously frustrated!"

"Yes, but he ripped up like, two years of work! It wasn't the best work, but it was still my work," One thing I had learnt was that Kaiden, like Alex, had a very driven sense of what was his, and was a little overprotective over his stuff.

"Anyway, it doesn't matter. I got him fired. Karma's a bitch." I looked at him in shock. Was he really that possessive over work he didn't even care about, that he would cause someone to loose their job? I opened my mouth to ask him, but he cut me off.

"Here, is this your last class?" I nodded, bringing my folder closer to my chest.

"Do you remember your way to the cafe?" I nodded again, despite the fact that I really had no idea where the cafe was. Alex wasn't kidding when he said my sense of direction was awful. Kaiden seemed to pick up on my uncertainty, but he let it go, saving me the embarrassment of having to ask him if he could meet me here.

"'Kay then, meet us there, and one of us will take you home, if you want. If not, send a message and we can always leave later." He said, turning away to walk over to his class.

"Thank you," I called out after him.

"No problem." He replied, before turning a corner around the building. How he had known which building I was in was beyond me, but I simply stepped inside and followed the doors until I came to the right one. I stepped inside and found an empty seat, despite most people already being here so early.

"Please be normal, please be normal, please be normal..." I quietly whispered under my breath. I don't think I could take another wacky teacher.

"Hellooooo students!" I looked up and saw a lady dressed in an evening gown, makeup and hair fully done, and a clutch instead of a proper bag. I sighed heavily.

"Definitely not normal..."
