《Little Love》7. Car Rides

Kaiden sat pouting as I laughed at him. He had lost almost every single game (he won one of them because he shoved me, almost breaking my phone) and was now throwing a mini tantrum because he thought that he would win.

"Come on, Little Love. Time to go home. We've got school tomorrow," Alex stumbled over, followed by Greyson who trailed silently after him. I watched Alex as he stumbled slightly, a dazed look in his eyes. My grin slowly faded and I looked back to Kaiden, who was smirking. I nudged him, drawing his attention to me.

"Is Alex alright?" He was swaying slightly, even whilst standing still.

"Yes, I'm alright. I just drank a little much. Not too much though. Come on, Little Love. Let's go." He bent down and picked me up, laughing as I squealed.

"Put me down, you jerk!" He laughed louder, and I could smell the alcohol on his breath, hidden slightly by the mint gum he was chewing.

"Aw, come on, Little Love! Smile!" He swung us around and I laughed as he tripped and almost dropped me, grabbing onto his hair.

"If you drop me, I'm going to wake you up the second I get up!" Now he scowled.

"No way are you getting me up at crazy-o'clock in the morning! I need to sleep the frickin' drinks off, Love! Nuh uh, no way, not happening!" He shook his head like a child, pouting.

"Then put me down, and I promise I won't!" He grinned and put me down, grabbing ahold of my hand and pulling me off to the car.

"Kaiden! You're driving! I... I think I might crash!" He laughed again, even though it wasn't really that funny. Kaiden simply pulled the keys out of his pocket.

"I know," He said, smoothly slipping into the front seat. Greyson sat in the front too, leaving me and my brother to sit in the back. Kaiden pulled out as soon as the door was shut, driving back a different way from where we had come from. It was quiet for a long moment until Alex groaned, wiping a hand down the front of his face.

"I missed you, Little Love, I really did..." His voice cracked and I stared at him.

"Kaiden... is he going to cry?" I had only ever seen Alex cry once after our father once went too far during the holidays.

"Probably." I turned to stare at Kaiden, who sighed.

"Don't tell anybody, but once you get him away from the crowds, he really is a sad drunk." I looked back at Alex, who was now looking at me.

"I really... I really wish I had stayed longer... I really wish I could've stopped dad..." I felt tears water in my eyes as I tried to blink them away. Pushing myself away from him, I leant back against the car door, pulling my knees to my chest, only then realising that I wasn't wearing a seatbelt. It didn't matter anyway; we were almost home.

Alex sniffed and opened his mouth to start talking again, when Greyson turned the radio on, putting it onto full volume. Alex's demenor instantly changed and he started laughing and screaming along to the words. I tucked my head between my knees and took a few deep breathes before looking up, wincing at how loud the music was blasting out of the speakers. At least it had stopped Alex from revealing whatever secrets he was going to tell everyone.

We pulled up to the front of the house and I jumped out of the car as soon as I could, before making my way around to the other side to pull my brother out. I didn't know whether this was a usual occurance or not, but either way, I had to make sure that he was alright.

Kaiden was already there though, pulling Alex out of the car, leaning him against his shoulder. He gave me a soft smile before walking around the car and up the stairs to the house. I followed behind them, watching them walk into the kitchen for water as I went straight up the stairs and into my room.

I got showered and changed into comfy clothes as fast as I could before flopping onto my bed, pulling up my laptop and snuggling under the covers. I switched it on and went straight to Netflix, flicking through the shows. There were so many that I had started and got bored of before I had chance to finish, and too many movies that I wanted to watch but never had the time too, but I found myself going straight to West Stide Story, my favourite movie ever.

About five minutes into the movie, I stood up and started shifting around, stretching and fiddling with things lying on my desk. I was nervous for school tomorrow.

I picked up one of the guitars on the wall - I had three, hung up in order - and sat back down on the bed, pausing the movie and shifting slightly, crossing my legs and getting comfortable. I played a few chords before singing the Tik Tok song everyone was singing.

"Fly me to the moon,

Let me play among the stars,

Let me see what spring is like,

On a-Jupiter and Mars,"

It was such a sweet song, and one of my favourites ever since I had heard it. There was a few Tik Tok songs I had added to my favourites playlist recently. I played the chorus of a few more of my songs, before getting up, putting my guitar away walking to the bathroom to paint my nails.

I chose a light grey and a white, and whilst waiting for them to dry, I gave myself a mini pep talk. They were just people, I was just a person, I could do this.

I could do this.
