Also, I've used the darker color for the names that are important for the plot and underlined parts that are crucial for the characters.

CHAPTERS 1-4

The beginning of the book is set inside a movie theatre. Our female lead , decides to watch the famous movie Joker along with her best friend Khloe and her twin sister Kassie. During the movie she gets an anxiety attack which gives us the first clue about her fragile mentality.

Excusing herself to the bathroom, she gets help by two men who happen to stumble over her. Both of them are wearing make up which resembles the iconic character and that's why she gives one of them the nickname Joker.

That's meant to be our sweet male lead, whose name remains unknown for several chapters. They share an intimate moment full of vulnerability, which ends up abruptly for both of them.

Daphne loses track of him, but he remains in her mind for many days after the incident. Continuing her daily life she gets back in college where she meets her little group of friends. .

During a conversation Khloe reveals to their friends what happened in the theatre, besides Daphne's clear discomfort. The girls are pushing for details which she doesn't give them. Later on, Khloe visits Daphne to apologise for her actions and they decide to spend their night watching movies, until a phone call interrupts them. Mikaela who went to a campus party with Zoey, lost track of her and the girls decide to go find her.

CHAPTERS 5-7

Arriving at the party, the three of them split up in order to find Zoey. Khloe takes her car to drive around the campus, while Daphne and Mikaela look for her on foot. Mikaela tells Daphne that Zoey left with a guy who is known for drug dealing inside the campus and that puts both of them on edge. Luckily, they find a contact who informs them about his name and his whereabouts.

The girls find themselves in front of the East Wing which is under reconstruction and where they learned (the guy Zoey left with) has a delivery for drugs. Sending a quick text to Khloe, Daphne and Mikaela go inside to look for their friend. There is no sight of her, although they find her bag and phone. Following the sound of voices in the garase, they catch a glance of three men (one of them being Dylan himself) and a girl whose face stays hidden behind them. Convinced that it's Zoey they decide to get her out of there, but they get caught by the three men.

After a lot of back and forth between Daphne and the guy's leader , Mikaela manages to leave, but Daphne stays behind. Eric, a short tempered man with clear mental problems takes a liking in her and keeps her with him during the drug dealing. Three gang members make their appearances for the deal. , and finally . The last one seems familiar to her but her anxiety doesn't let her think clearly. Daphne discovers it's not Zoey with them, rather than just some random girl. She lashes against Eric and the two of them fight in front of everyone. Their fight is cut short by a new car approaching the building and the man inside it.

CHAPTERS 8-10

A new figure comes into the picture. Daphne feels immediately drawn to him and she can't explain it. The man seems to see it too but remains cold. The gang fights with the three pushers since Eric owes them money and Brody suggests taking her in return. A huge commotion starts making Daphne start panicking and she has once more an ugly panic attack. that ends up only with the man's help. He guides her through it and when she calms down enough a big reveal unfolds in front of her eyes. The very guy who she couldn't take her mind of is standing there. Joker.

The two of them leave the scene, his guys taking care of the rest of them. They spent a little time together in the car and then change vehicles. Ethan, who appears to be his friend from the theatre, brings them a motorcycle and soon they are back on the road. Daphne is infatuated with him and the same goes for him too. Finally, he drives her close to a police station and gives her clear directions of what to say, in order to hide their tracks. They share an intimate moment and he promises to find her again.

Daphne follows his instructions and gives a statement to the police since both Khloe and Mikaela went there to ask for help. She changes the story to protect him and lies to everyone about it.

CHAPTERS 11-12

Daphne comes back to college with a new feeling of optimism from her encounter with him. She finds Mikalea who explains to her that Zoey actually had left the party without informing anyone, after fighting with her hook up (Dylan) and forgot her bag. The realisation that she was never actually there and they went through everything for nothing is hard on them, but Daphne doesn't seem to mind. The fact that she managed to see him again is enough for her.

The girls seem angry towards Zoey for her behaviour even though Daphne tries to bring them together. Soon Zoey focuses her attention on the young new teacher and the two of them will start a passionate affair. (But that's a story for another time. Maybe a book?🤔)

Finally, her and Daphne speak about the incident and they decide to put it behind. Daphne gets a call from her dad who is on a work trip and the closeness of their relationship becomes evident.

The days pass but Daphne doesn't have any sign of communication with him. She starts to lose hope and her only comfort is a silver necklace with a black stone that he gave to her. Behind it are the head letters of his name. J.W. for (drum sound for the name reveal🥁 )

Here I wanna say a couple of things. A lot of you made a huge fuss about the name. Honestly I don't know what's the big deal about it and unfortunately I didn't get the references some of you used. Maybe because I am a foreigner. Who knows. I don't mind any type of critic as long as it comes from a good place. But comments like ''the name ruined it for me'' and ''I'm leaving the book because of this'' are hurtful. Believe it or not I did a lot of research in order to find names that are unique in a way and it was a difficult process since english isn't my first language. You can stop reading my book at any point. I won't try to change anyone's mind, but at least try and be more polite because we and by we I mean authors in general, put a lot of work here. CHAPTERS 13-15

After a couple of weeks of no news from him, Daphne fells again on the pitty cycle she was so used to. A nervous break down in front of her friends, led to a new contact. She meets a young guy named who is going to change her life for good. The two of them spend the day together, sharing jokes and laughs and they make an agreement that Rob will help her improve her life mentally.

Daphne visits her therapist where she finds it hard to express herself and feels disappointed by it. She believes Jackson used her to keep her mouth shut about the drug dealing and that hurts her. Taking Rob's advice, she decides to follow him and his company to a party. During the ride there he introduces her to , and Isaac. At the party Daphne lets loose and forgets about everything. Her chemistry with seems obvious despite his nasty attitude and harsh words. When she loses track of Rob, he takes care of her and decides to bring her with him in the business he has.

They find themselves inside the greenhouse of the property the party was held in, which seems to be Isaac's old house. He appears to be another pusher working for the same gang Jackson is, along with his brother Brody. In the meeting the two siblings' bad relationship becomes clear along with the things they have in common. Besides Brody, two other men are inside the room. A cold and vicious man, older than the rest of them, whose name remains unknown and Jackson.

Jackson pretends that he doesn't know her in order to keep her safe, but his anger towards the fact that she is there with Isaac is evident. The last one brings less money to the dealers, after keeping his own cut without permission and the older man who is in charge of the whole gang threatens them with a gun. Finally, Jackson finds a way to get Daphne out of there, while Isaac stays behind to get punished for his disrespect.

CHAPTERS 16-17

Jackson leads Daphne into his car and out of the spot clearly furious. Daphne gets scared of his reaction and the two of them fight. He yells at her, making her leave his car into the rain, but he is quick to stop her and apologises. Outside her home he tries to explain the situation, although he can't seem to find the courage. Daphne, feeling like the push came to shove, gives him his necklace and lets him go.

After that, he realises that he might lose her and decides to fight for her. Right there, under the rain they share their .

CHAPTERS 18-21

The next day, Daphne wakes up sick. She has Isaac's phone since he forgot it on the jacket he gave to her. Distressed about what happened to him, she calls Rob and asks him to find him. When he does, she invites him over and tells him the truth about the night before and hers and Jackson's relationship. He advises her to keep her guard up and do research for him, only Isaac is the one who can give her any information.

Visiting his place, he doesn't welcome her with open arms and his hostility upsets her. Again it becomes clear that they are somewhat attracted to each other, but she fights against it in order to achieve her goal. After a long conversation he reveals to her what he knows about Jackson's past, the importance of his position in the gang and the complexity of his character.

Daphne leaves with more questions than she came. She also discovers Isaac's punishment, finding scars on his body and she takes care of him. Eventually he gives her a ride home.

There she finds Jackson waiting for her and after a few awkward moments between the three of them she gets on a ride with him for their . That takes place in the theatre they met where Jackson has organised a private screening of her favorite play.

On their way out, they unexpectedly meet one of his colleagues Pablo, which makes Jackson alert. Their date continues at an ice-cream shop and back on his place. After a few hours he takes her home, but not before they share a hot make out session.

CHAPTERS 22-24

is the first one from . And a really important one to take a glimpse in his life.

We see him during his job and we learn a few things about his personality. He doesn't really want to be a part of any of this, but he is too tired and dependent to let go. He is also extremely rude towards his colleagues and keeps everyone in distance besides Ethan. His infatuation with Daphne is real. And so is his obsession over being in control. A woman makes her appearance and seems to belong as a big part in his life. .

She was his sexual partner and friend for quite some time. Their deal is to keep feelings out of the relationship, although he can't help but care for her after knowing her for so long. She comes back from a trip and spends the night in his place, but nothing happens between them.

He leaves to get to a gathering of the gang where , the leader introduces a new A-class member. Isaac. That makes Jackson mad and the history between them seems clear. Chuck and Jackson's relationship starts to unfold, while he gives him a hint that he knows there is something going on with the girl from before. Daphne.

Jackson dodges his questions and leaves the house to find her. He gets in her house by the window, after she invited him in and explores a little bit of her world. Then he asks her to spend the night there and watch her favorite show.

Cough, Cough🤫 is the first where he...you know...tastes that watermellon sugar.

CHAPTERS 25-27

A day later, Daphne finally decides to confront Khloe about the fight they had weeks ago. The conversation between them ends up with the two friends more distant than they've ever been. The harsh words that they exchanged hurt Daphne's feelings and she finds herself getting drunk in Zoey's house. They talk about their personal lives and Daphne confides to her about Jackson. Zoey on the other side reveals that she has a thing going on with their professor. Daphne wakes up the next day in Jackson's bed, not able to remember what happened. Here starts a that will continue .

CHAPTERS 28-30

Jackson comes back, after the night he spent in Daphne's place, to find Olivia still at his home. He realises that he is being unfair towards her, since he already knows he won't be able to continue their agreement now that he is in love with Daphne.

He spends the rest of his day trying to take his mind off of her, but a phone call puts an end to his torture. Daphne calls him drunk to tell him that she misses him and he decides to go find her. When he arrives at Zoey's place, he finds her completely drunk, dancing in a ridiculous dress and high heels.

He catches her while she falls and takes her home with him. There he takes care of her injured leg (in more ways than one😏 ) and puts up with her childish behaviour. Daphne seems unable to let him go even for a minute and her clingy character comes into life. The night ends when both of them cuddle together while Daphne reveals her biggest fear.

While writing this recap I had the chance to re-read some of my earliest chapters. I saw that many people commented about the outfit choice during her drunk day with Zoey. Obviously this is not a daily dress and shoes she would wear outside. I chose it particularly to highlight the fact that they were having a pity party. They were all dressed up with ridiculous clothes just for fun. Haven't you ever played house as kids? What I meant to say is give the outfit it's moment. It's not that serious. 💃

CHAPTERS 31-34

Back to the present time, after Jackson and Daphne have breakfast together, he tries to persuade her to tell him why she was so upset the night before. Daphne seems unable to do it and he uses a few methods that are well known to him.

The whole situation, no matter how pleasurable it is, brings up a sudden panic attack to her and Jackson guides her through it once more. He promises to stay beside her and take care of her always. Later on, he takes her back to her house where they agree for their next meet up. Daphne leaves his car with a happy mood all thanks to him, but when she gets home an unpleasant surprise expects her. Her mom waits for her furious about her lies over where she slept and slaps her across the face. That's the first cue of the problematic bond they have.
