《His Heat》Fourteen: Beloved [Jun's POV]

When Jun first asked his parents if he could leave Venus pack, it didn't go very well, unsurprisingly. At first, Jun's father, Silas, thought Jun meant that he wanted to travel and see the world a bit – which would be totally fine. Encouraged, even. Silas asked Jun where he wanted to go, and when Jun said Ganymede pack, he was even more on board because, of course, Ganymede pack was both an ally and run very differently than Venus pack. It would give Jun experience without him putting himself in danger.

But then Jun clarified that he wanted to become a member of Ganymede pack, to which his parents looked at him like he'd just said he wanted to become a cow and fly to the moon. His father waved him off, thinking that Jun was joking, perhaps. Jun had always been a little strange, and his parents thought his request might just be an upgraded version of that time when he was five and said he wanted to eat a mud pie for his birthday instead of cake. With his dismissal, Silas had clearly thought that would be the end of it.

It wasn't, of course. Several long arguments later, Jun had gotten his way. Despite his refusal to tell his parents exactly why he wanted to transfer to Ganymede pack, he eventually wore them down, and he transferred with the promise that he would return at some point.

Jun had always been stubborn in that way. He was easygoing with most things in life, but when it came to the things he really wanted, he persisted until it happened. He really had eaten a mud pie when he was five, despite his parents' assurances that it would make him sick. And it had made him sick. But he achieved what he wanted, so he didn't regret it.

What Damon didn't know was that Jun had already won another argument with his parents. The moment Jun returned to Venus pack, his father came to see him – first to hug him and ask if he was alright. Then to ask him what the hell he was doing.

And Jun told him exactly what he was doing and what was going to happen. Damon was going to be a part of Venus pack, and Jun was going to be with Damon. There would be no compromise.

Jun's father hadn't exactly agreed. But he hadn't said no, either – likely because he knew his son, and he knew Jun was going to do what he wanted anyway. So Silas just gruffly said "Well, let's meet him first," and Jun knew he'd won.

Dutifully, Jun brought Damon to see his family. But Damon was clearly a lot more uncertain about the outcome of this meeting than Jun was. He was visibly sweating out of nervousness, which Jun found cute. After being intimate with Damon for so many days in a row now, seeing Damon's sweat just made Jun want to lick it off. It was something he'd started doing unconsciously while Damon was in heat. It had become an odd habit now, and one that Jun wasn't sure Damon noticed. Or if he did, he didn't think it was all that weird. Jun wanted to lick.

He restrained himself of course. His sister was here. She was still a minor.

He could do it later, in the privacy of his apartment. Some days it was all Jun could do to keep himself from swallowing Damon whole and storing him in his stomach for safekeeping.

Jun's father walked up to Damon, who seemed to want to drop his gaze, but was afraid to as well. Jun squeezed Damon's hand again.

Damon had nothing to fear. Even if Jun weren't here with him, Jun's father was basically a big teddy bear, and he was physically and mentally incapable of being mean to anyone weaker than himself. Seeing how Damon was shaking like a leaf, Silas stopped a few feet away and awkwardly cleared his throat.

Damon still jumped slightly at the sound, which caused a slight embarrassed blush to appear on Silas' ears. Jun silently placed bets on how long it would take his father to crumble from the big strong pack leader into a stuttering, apologetic mess. He would give it five minutes, tops. Who could blame him though? A scared or hurt Damon could bring the most powerful alpha to his knees, groveling and begging for forgiveness. Jun certainly wouldn't be able to handle it.

This power of Damon's wasn't even necessarily connected to him being an omega, either. Damon was just a very genuinely kind person, and anyone who was also somewhat kind would realize that and feel like shit if they made him feel like shit. Jun's father absolutely wouldn't be able to handle Damon's widened, scared eyes, frozen posture, and the way he was drawing into himself like someone was about to shout at him.

"I hear you're from Ganymede pack," Silas said, subdued. "Welcome to Venus pack."

Damon blinked in shock, looked between Jun and his father. Jun hadn't let go of his hand yet and squeezed again, lacing their fingers together. Damon seemed to gather some strength from it, because he straightened slightly, unhunching his shoulders.

It'll be fine, Jun wanted to say. Because I'm here. Because I'm yours.

While Damon haltingly thanked Jun's father, Jun's mother rose from his seat, coming toward them.

Not all male omegas liked being called mother. Some preferred father or papa, or any derivation thereof. Using "mother" despite the primary gender of the parent giving birth was a tradition of the older generations, Jun's parents included. Things were getting more progressive, though, so most no longer cared. Damon had been a little confused when Jun explained that to him. Ganymede pack, with its flipped heats, had flipped a lot of other things as well, so the use of mother for male omegas was rare.

But Jun had always called his mother his mother, so Damon respected it. Though Damon was scared of Jun's father, it was actually Jun's mother that was the challenge. Jun's mother likely wouldn't take any offense to Damon over Jun's broken engagement, but he would be particularly scrutinizing of him at first out of protectiveness. Then again, Jun was the first of his mother's children to have a serious significant other, so Jun wasn't totally sure how he would react to Damon.

"Come sit, Damon," Jun's mother said, "and tell me all about what my son's been up to since he left. Please don't leave out any details about anything he's done wrong, too. I've been itching to smack him for six years, so I'd love an excuse."

"..."

Hm. Jun had miscalculated.
