《His Heat》Six: Brother

Jun's brother eyed Damon from head to toe. Damon would logically expect skepticism or even outright hostility considering Damon was the 'other woman' in this situation. He had caused Jun to abandon his engagement and leave his pack. If Damon had a brother, he wouldn't be too happy if he did that.

However, all Damon saw in this once over was curiosity and perhaps a little delight. Jun's little brother smirked and held out a hand through the open window for Damon to shake. Damon did so, feeling like he was having an out of body experience. The teen was an omega, that much Damon could tell. But there was a glaring problem with that.

The young man was from Venus pack, where the omegas were in heat right now because the Season was still in full swing. He must be in a lucid period then, right? If he was allowed to leave the pack to pick up his wayward elder brother?

"I'm Jay. Yes, our parents did choose obnoxiously alliterative names for us. Our little sister's name is Jess. You must be Damon. Please, get in."

Damon felt like he was being pelted by tiny rocks with each new sentence. Jay had a rapid-fire way of speaking that left Damon struggling to catch up. Damon was still processing when Jun lightly squeezed his hand and gave him a look that asked if Damon was okay. Damon nodded and dazedly went to get in the backseat of the car.

He had assumed that Jun would get the front seat to better talk to his brother, but before Damon could even touch the door handle, Jay tsked.

"No. You in the front. You in the back," he said, gesturing with his chin first at Damon then at Jun.

Oh good. The car ride was going to be an interrogation then. Jay must have seen Damon's thoughts plainly on his face, because he laughed.

"Don't misunderstand. I just live for any chance to make Jun uncomfortable. He gets carsick easily if he sits in the back."

Huh. That...wasn't any better. In fact it was kind of cruel, but when Damon turned to see if Jun was hurt by this, all he saw was Jun rolling his eyes.

Maybe this was typical sibling behavior? Damon had no idea, but he was uncomfortable caught in the middle of it. Either way, Jun got into the back with no complaints and Damon figured he should get in the front like Jay wanted him to and avoid offending him five minutes after meeting him.

In the passenger seat, Damon strapped himself in and Jay started driving away immediately, the car bumping up and down on the rough terrain. Damon didn't get carsick normally, but this ride was rough enough that even his stomach was a little upset. He hurriedly glanced back at Jun to see how he was doing, and sure enough, the poor boy's face was practically tinted green. He had a white-knuckled grip on the 'oh-shit' handle, as Mark called it.

Damon didn't know what to do. He didn't even have anything on him for Jun to puke in. He was just reaching back to hold Jun's hand and hopefully provide some semblance of comfort when Jay sighed.

"Glove compartment."

Damon turned to look at him. His profile was calm and collected despite the bouncing of the car. "What?"

Jay glanced at him, humor clear in his gaze. "There's medicine in the glove compartment. For Jun."

Oh. Huh?

Damon hurried to open the compartment and rifled through it until he found a bottle of motion sickness pills and passed them back to Jun, who slid one out and swallowed it dry. Damon's gaze bounced between the two brothers, completely flummoxed. Jun saw his confusion and shrugged. "He's a little shit," is all he said by way of explanation, voice gruff from the effort to not puke.

Jay chuckled. "I haven't seen you in a long time. How else would you know I still care about you if I didn't torture you a little first?"

Damon wisely kept his mouth shut through this interaction, decidedly glad that he didn't have siblings. Well, there was Mark. He was kind of like a sibling, and also a little shit at times, but he would never do this to Damon.

"So. Brother-in-law," Jay said. Damon took far too long to realize Jay was addressing him. "Have you and my brother become mates yet?"

Again, Damon was thrown for a loop. Lack of subtlety was apparently a family trait. "Um," he said, intelligently. Perhaps Damon was taking too long to answer, because Jay simply reached over and lightly tugged Damon's collar down to see his neck. It happened so fast Damon didn't have the time to feel offended about it, and he never touched Damon's skin. This man was...a lot to handle. Then again, so was Jun at first. Oh god, the whole family was going to be this way, wasn't it?

"No, then. That's probably going to make things a little more difficult for you."

Damon...didn't even know what to say. Jun, either because he didn't like Jay touching Damon willy-nilly, or perhaps because of the personal question and general nosiness, or all three, reached up from the back to thwack the back of Jay's head with an audible smack. Jay's nose scrunched up, but otherwise he seemed to be expecting it.

The car was finally reaching the end of the field, and with a few smooth maneuvers, Jay navigated it onto a dirt road that was only slightly more drivable than the field. Meanwhile, Damon was lost in thought, wondering if he should have taken that opportunity in the field to push Jun into the bushes and ask him to bond with him.

It wouldn't have been very romantic, but Damon would definitely remember it. Still, Damon felt uneasy about doing it because they had to. Because it would make things easier. That shouldn't be the reason, Damon thought, to create a lifelong commitment. It wasn't that he didn't want to bond with Jun, he absolutely did, but he wanted it to happen because they were ready to start a life together, not because it would make it harder for anyone to split them up.

Jun, sensing that Damon was having a tiny panic attack, pinched Damon's side, effectively snapping him out of it. Damon glanced back at Jun, met his calm, dark eyes, and relaxed.

It would be fine...probably.
