Chapter 31
Flicker's POV
"What are we watching" Connor asks as he joins me on the couch, snuggling up next to me.
"I don't know, I'm in the mood for a romantic comedy"
"Romantic comedy, no thanks" Jake declares handing me the popcorn. "I think I have some paperwork to finish off"
"No you don't" I grab his hand pulling him onto the couch next to me.
"What do I get, if I spend the next two hours watching some inane show with you"
"My love" I state, a smile curling at my lips
"I thought you love me already" he replies, looking at me in complete shock, but the mirth in his eyes reveals that he knows I'm joking.
"I do" I say grabbing a handful of popcorn. "But I'd love you even more if you'd watched a movie with me"
" I would consider her proposal Jake, she strikes a good deal" Connor quips, grabbing the bowl
"Fine" he relents. Go choose a movie"
"Yes" I squeal, I place a small kiss on his cheek before running over to the DVD drawer.
Looking at all these DVD's, I think back to the past two weeks. After that day in the forest things had started to improve. They hadn't found the mole in the pack, which had frustrated the Alpha's, but they hadn't once brought up my interaction with Kyle.
Last Sunday we had dinner at Carolyn's house, thankfully it had gone a lot smoother than before, the topic of children wasn't brought up, but the conversation was still very forced. I don't think she's forgiven me yet for cheating on her sons.
With the Alpha's being busy with pack work I had spent most of my days with Cassidy, our friendship had really blossomed over the past two weeks.
"Flicker have you found one yet" Connor asks jolting me out of my thoughts
"Ummm" I quickly flick through the DVD's. "Got it" I pull out Notting Hill showing it to them.
"Haven't seen it before"
"Even better" I say placing it in the DVD player.
...
"I love that movie" I say. The end credits had just started to roll, my mates had been quiet throughout the movie, no snide remarks from Jake about the story. I actually think they had secretly enjoyed it as well.
"Okay lets go to bed" Connor says as he gets off the couch

"Yeah come on Flicker, I'm exhausted" Jake agrees following Connor off the couch
I stare up at my mates, my thoughts running a million miles a second. These two weeks had been perfect, this night had been pure bliss. I think we were ready, I was ready.
"Mark me" I blurt out
Jake and Connor freeze in their spot before turning around to face me. I glance at Jake, his eyes a swirl of blue and black. His wolf was present.
"Flicker you don't have to do this if you're not ready" Connor says sitting back on the couch, he laces his hand through mine sending sparks spiralling down my skin.
"There is no pressure" Jake says, his face so serious. "Flicker you are so precious to us, we're happy to wait a month, a year or five years until you want us to mark you.
"I know there's no pressure, but who knows what's around the corner. I want to do it while we're all here and safe.
"Okay" Connor says looking at me intently.
Their fingers grace my neck as they push my hair out of the way. This is it, I think to myself there's no backing out now. My body was like a bubbling pot of nerves, ready to explode at any second.
"It will only hurt for a second" Jake murmurs as I feel his teeth press against my neck. Connor's teeth join his, indenting my skin on the other side.
Their teeth slide in together and I squeeze my eyes shut bracing myself for the pain. I don't have to wait along, fiery pain spreads through my blood, burning my body slowly to a crisp.
"Please" I rasp trying to get my words out. I just wanted to die. The pain was unbearable, reminding me of the time when I first shifted, all my bones breaking and reforming until I finally turned into my wolf.
I can't do this anymore, I think as I gladly accept the gift of darkness.
Connor's POV
I retract my teeth from Flicker's neck, licking the blood clean. I watch as Jake does the same.
"Flicker" I call softly but there's no response
"Flicker I call again" my voice tinged in panic
I get off the couch and kneel in front of her. Flicker's eyes were closed, her skin ghostly white

Shit, we had marked her too soon
"Jake we need to get the Doctor" I tell him, my heart racing
"She's fine Connor" Jake reassures. I checked with the Doctor a few weeks ago, he told me that that there was a high chance that she would faint.
I breathe a sigh of relief, thankful that Jake had been smart enough to check with the Doctor, regardless though I think I would spend most of the night monitoring her.
"Why do you think she let us mark her" I ask Jake.
"I don't know, these last two weeks have been enjoyable. There's been no fights or disagreements. We've acted like the perfect mates"
Jake slides Flicker off the couch lifting her into his arms as he begins to carry her up the stairs towards the bedroom.
I take a seat on the couch letting my body sink into the cushions. Jake was right, these past two weeks had been perfect, I wish the rest of our lives could be this easy.
I chuckle at the thought, with Flicker's fiery attitude and our dominating personality, I knew for certainty that there would definitely be many bumps along the road.
Jake and I still hadn't found the mole in the pack, a fact that disturbed and irritated us. How were we supposed to protect Flicker and our future children if we couldn't find one man. We had sent word to our other neighbouring packs but none of them had sighted or scented him.
We knew that he was most likely hiding in Flicker's old pack but we couldn't question them or send our pack warriors to investigate, Flicker would have our heads.
It wouldn't be long until she went into heat and fell pregnant, I was looking forward to having an heir but before any of that happened we needed to find our betrayer.
Flicker's POV
The sun streams in through the window, sending its harsh unwanted glare towards me. Squinting I face the other way, my body and joints acting like jelly as I turn over. I test my arms as I stretch them out in front of me, but like the rest of my body feels disjointed and slow.
What's happening to me, I think as I try to recall the events of yesterday. Nothing major happened, I fast-forward the events in my mind until I suddenly press pause on one of the slides. I watch as I mutter those two little words, which have now changed me for the rest of my life.
I stumble out of bed, my vision swaying slightly as I grip the bed-stand, the small little piece of furniture supporting my whole weight. I walk slowly to the bathroom as my body finds its equilibrium.
I tilt my head to the side as I glance back out the window, it looked to be mid-day. Wow I must've slept for ages. My thoughts flick to the Alpha's next, knowing them they wouldn't have left me alone for long.
I switch the light on in the bathroom as I move closer to the mirror. The image staring back at surprises me. I expected a bloody mess, marred with black and blue bruises but all that covers my neck is two little indented teeth mark on each side.
Tracing my fingers over the mark it sends a wave of pleasure running down my spine. I didn't think the pain would be over so quickly. I assumed that I would be sore for days after.
"What do you think" a voice asks from behind me
I jump a little before I see Connor and Jake behind me in the mirror. I frown, I hadn't heard them come in.
Turning around I study them, Jake's expression as always was unreadable, Connor tried to hide it but his face was beaming with happiness.
"I thought it would bother me more, but it doesn't"
"I like it" Jake openly admits. "It tells everyone that you belong to us"
"It tells everyone that I'm your mate Jake, not that I belong to you or that you own me" I say challenging him. Despite what others thought I was his equal.
I hold his stare waiting for him to relinquish his statement.
"Your right Flicker" he says stepping forward, his lips press against the mark sending sparks racing down my body. "You're our mate"
He steps back, leaving me wanting more.
"Come on let's go get lunch" Connor suggests
"Good idea" Jake replies a smirk tugging at his lips.
My stomach answers for me, grumbling loudly in front of them.
They chuckle as we exit the room and head towards the dining area.

Sod's Law (Dropped)
This fiction has been dropped, you're more than welcome to read it anyway (there is sort of an ending). But you have been warned... Sod's law is a more extreme version of Murphy's law. While Murphy's law says that anything that can go wrong, will go wrong (eventually), Sod's law requires that it always goes wrong with the worst possible outcome. For example, concepts such as "bad fortune will be tailored to the individual" and "good fortune will occur in spite of the individual's actions" are sometimes given as examples of Sod's law in action. This would broaden Sod's law to a general sense of being "mocked by fate". In these aspects it is similar to some definitions of irony, particularly the irony of fate. - Definitions of Sod's Law on Wikipedia. The protagonist, as many before them, and many who followed, thought they were just entering a VRMMORPG (Virtual Reality Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing-Game). Unbeknownst to them however, was a short paragraph in the Terms & Conditions, that, upon agreement, would actually transport them to a fantasy world, loosely based on the game they thought they were entering. - Something anyone could be forgiven for, no-one reads them after all. In this new world, they discover that people are born with “Traits”, a System recognised, ability, skill, or talent, that they are born with. Sod's Law was not a trait they, or anyone else for that matter, would want. Pure madness follows. Yup, this is about a character transferred to a fantasy game-world with the worst luck imaginable. This is my first fiction so I apologise for any grammar and spelling mistakes that may be made. Hopefully it is readable, and if so please tell me! But if it's not, also tell me, but in a constructive way if at all possible? Due to the nature of the “Trait” the story will be dark in places, with plenty of gore and profanity, hence the tags. There may also be scenes of a sexual nature, but nothing full on – sorry guys but you'll have to go elsewhere for that.
