《My Twin Mates》Chapter 23

"Try this on" Cassidy suggests as she hands me a skimpy black dress.
I frown as I hold the this piece of material in my hands, I had been in Cassidy's room for hours trying on clothes for tonight's date. Butterflies were fluttering around in my stomach as I thought of spending time alone with Jake and Connor.
I shouldn't be scared, I had spent loads of time with them alone in the house, God I sleep next to them each night but this was different. Tonight they were taking me out for dinner, it was supposed to be romantic but I wasn't sure, I was still so confused around the both of them.
I hand Cassidy back the dress, for tonight I wanted something with a bit more coverage. I flick through her closet passing beautiful ball gowns and evening dresses both that were too fancy for this event.
"What about this one?" Cassidy asks showing me a beautiful white dress. It was strapless but still revealed nothing, falling just above my knees
"I think we've found it" Cassidy says smiling
I try it on and it fits perfectly
"Yep this is it"
"Now you just need the shoes" Cassidy adds as she hands me a pair of six inch stilettos
"I can't wear these" I exclaim looking at the height of the heels. "I'll fall over before I even reach the door"
"You'll be fine"
I give her a pointed look which she ignores. I slip into the shoes and I only manage to stumble a few times. Cassidy does my makeup and hair and by the time she's finished I don't even recognise the girl standing in front of me. She looks like someone who has everything under control, who knows exactly what she's doing.
Glancing at the clock I realise I'm late, I was supposed to meet Jake and Connor at 6:00 and now its ten past.
"Thanks for your help Cassidy. You're the absolute best"
"I know" She grins
The boys are waiting at the bottom of the staircase, their eyes go wide when they gaze up noticing me. I smile, a blush spreading across my cheeks as I begin my descent. For a moment it felt like I had been swept into a fairy tale and at the bottom of the stairs a prince would be waiting for me, but in reality when I reach the bottom it is Jake and Connor instead, and for once in my life I'm not sure who I wanted more.
"You look beautiful" Connor whispers as he grabs my hand placing a kiss on it.
"This is all your sister's work" I state trying to bring the attention away from me
"But your the one wearing the clothes not her" Jake says looking at me intently
I glance at him before looking away quickly, I couldnt handle his intensity.
Jake and Connor both look extremely handsome wearing a black tux. Butterflies continue to swirl in my stomach but despite that I was also a little excited.
We were leaving the pack and for the first time I would have some idea where it was located. I knew that the aim of the dinner was to grow closer to the Alpha's, get to know them better, but my personal aim was to know exactly where this pack was located. I wasn't planning on leaving but if something ever happened I needed to know.
"Shall we go?" Connor asks extending his hand, breaking me from my thoughts

I plaster a warm smile on my face as I take his hand.
"Where are you taking me"
"Its a surprise" Jake says
I frown at his answer, damn it wasn't going to be as easy as I ininitially thought. I guess a surprise was a romantic idea however it still told me that they didn't want to disclose the location.
Jake opens the car door open and I slide into the back.
Connor sits in the driver seat and Jake joins him in the passenger, I'm grateful for this, I assumed one of them would be in the back with me.
The car ride is quiet but not awkward, I sit by the edge glued to the window watching my surroundings. I'm hoping to see a landmark of some sort or even a street name.
But my hope is short lived, Connor seems to be purposely taking the forest paths instead of the main road. My heart breaks a little as I realise that they didn't trust me completely, it hurts more than it should've.
Eventually he pulls onto the main road but there's no streetlights so I can't see any signs. A few minutes later we pull into a street lined with shops.
"I hope you like Italian" Jake says as we park in front of a small quaint Italian shop
"I love Italian"
Connor opens my door and I hop out. Despite being outside I could already smell the authentic Italian food coming through the door. Hopefully this would be a great night.
The Alpha's hold my hand and together we walk into the restaurant, it was bustling with people some of them pack members others just humans.
Jake and Connor stroll past the "please wait to be seated sign", heading straight to the booth at the back like they owned the place.
I take a booth to myself while the boys sit directly in front of me, I realise that I'm not sure which is worst, making eye contact with them every time I look up or having them squished next to me.
The waiter soon arrives handing us our menu.
"Would you like some drinks" He asks us but he's looking at me directly
"No" Jake says, giving the waiter a death-like stare
"What about you beautiful" He says winking at me, he was obviously human no pack member would dare flirt me unless they had a death wish.
"She's fine" Connor growls
"I wasn't asking you"
I glance at my mates the murderous glint in their eyes told me that they were ready to shift and rip this guy to shreds.
"I'm okay thanks"
The waiter seems disappointed but he quickly leaves.
"I'm going to kill him" Jake threatens
"No your not" I say . "He's just a mundane boy"
"With a death wish" Connor mutters but I can still hear it
I reach over grabbing their hands
"I'm hear with you, your my soul mate not him. Please lets not let some human ruin our evening"
"Flicker's right, we should enjoy this evening" Connor says
I breathe a small sigh of relief thankful that's he's agreeing with me. Jake still has a murderous look on his face but once we got our food, I'm sure he would be fine.
I take a look at the menu and realise that its all in Italian, wow this restaurant was really authentic.
"Here let me translate"Connor says
I peer across the table as Connor explains what food is available.
A different waiter soon appears at our table and from his scent I can tell its a pack member. Jake must've mind-linked someone to serve us. We each order what we want and the table soon falls silent again.

"I was thinking that we could do this regularly" Connor suggests breaking the silence
"That would be nice, at my old pack I didn't really get out much. Once or twice a year my Dad would let us go to the city and buy new clothes but other than that we stayed in the pack.
"The city's a bit far from us. It'd probably be easier to order online" Jake says
"Oh okay" I store the bit of information away but I knew it was pointless, it did little reveal where the pack was located.
I sigh internally but the idea comes to my mind, the Alpha's had said that I could trust them and I guess this was the perfect opportunity to test it.
"This is such a beautiful place, why haven't I heard of it before"
"Its because this location is so isolated, its mostly werewolves that dine here but as you witnessed just earlier humans also sneak in.
Damn that led me nowhere. I knew this would be my only opportunity to ask questions so without taking another second to think, I ask another one.
"Was that the Wilde highway we were on, I remember seeing...."
"Flicker. We know what you're up to" Connor interrupts me
My body stills my eyes going wide as I place my hands under the table to hide the slight trembling, the Alpha's couldn't find out that I was scared, but I didn't understand how they knew what I was up to. I had to admit that my last question was a bit indiscreet but there was still no way that they could know.
"Flicker" Jake says his voice is soft and soothing and I instantly relax. "What would you like to know"
I don't speak for a moment, worried that this is just a twisted game they're playing with me but when I glance at them they both look sincere. Here goes nothing,
"Where is the pack located"
Connor laughs, "You don't mess around do you"
I don't answer his statement
"We're located in Greenwood" Jake tells me
"Greenwood" I mumble to myself, that was at least a two day trip from my pack.
"Your not going to leave us though Flicker" Connor asks, he looks panic stricken, like a puppy that's just lost his favourite bone
"No I'm not" I promise
The table falls silent again and I feel that I've ruined the evening, the food hasn't arrived yet and I decide to get to know Jake and Connor better.
"Let's play 20 questions" I announce
"20 questions?" Jake says unsure
I disregard his statement
"Favourite colour?"
"Blue" Connor admits immediately
I look at Jake pointedly, it wasn't a hard question.
"Black"
"Now that wasn't hard was it" I say it like I'm talking to baby who's just been fed vegetables
"Favourite movie" Connor asks
Jake answers immediately with The Conjuring, but it takes me a little while. I loved anything romantic, my favourite were the Nicholas Spark movies.
"I'd probably say The Lucky One"
Jake groans as he places his head in his hands,
"Please not that one, any movie but that one"
I giggle at his reaction but I couldn't understand what the big deal was,
"Whenever Cassidy got nightmares as a kid it was our responsibility to look after her, we'd take her down to the lounge and she would always make us watch that one. It was absolute torture, I swear to God I've seen it at least 100 times" Connor explains and I again laugh at the thought of my two ferocious mates watching the Lucky One with their younger sister.
The food arrives and we fall into light conversation over dinner. I discover that they both have an absolute fear of clowns and that they hate strawberry ice cream. They learn that I love to read and promise that they'll take me to the pack library this week.
We're about to leave when Jake asks one last question,
"Did you have any boyfriends before us"
I don't meet Jake's gaze my thoughts a swirling mess. I first think of Kyle, he was my childhood bestfriend, our friendship could've developed into more had the Alpha's not snatched me away but we were never meant to be mates. But the big question is, did I consider him to be my boyfriend. I let myself think for another second before I look up at Jake and Connor.
Both their expressions are unreadable but I have the feeling that will change once I give my answer.
"No, I didn't have a boyfriend"
Both the Alpha's expression change into one's of relief and happiness but I make sure mine remains neutral. Despite having fun talking to Jake and Connor and discovering new things about them, I found it unfair and inconsiderate that they asked me that question.
If I had admitted to having a boyfriend, they would've been furious with me despite the fact that they had ex-girlfriends, one's that wanted to kill me. How was it fair that they could go out each night with a different girl where as I had to remain pure.
These thoughts distract me the whole ride home, but as we reach the house I realised that there was no point concerning myself with this information, it was all in the past and would hopefully remain that way.
Connor offers me the shower first and I gratefully take it. I knew deep down that they would probably want to shower with me but we weren't ready for that. Despite my previous worries I surprisingly had fun tonight, it was nice to be able to talk with Jake and Connor as an equal.
My thoughts begin to drift to the waiter that was flirting with me in the beginning, I wondered what had happened to him?
I turn the water off and just stand in the steam, this week sometime I was going to be meeting with Jake and Connor's parents, the thought still sends a shiver down my spine but hopefully it would be as easy as it was tonight.
I get dressed into my pj's and open the door to see a topless Connor.
"Hey" he says grinning. "Was the shower nice"
I am spell struck for a moment, distracted by his bare toned chest. Emma would be laughing at me right now if she was still in my head.
"Yeah it was" I respond looking up into his eyes
We're close enough to kiss but despite my urge to do it I knew deep down that it was too soon. Instead I go up on my toes and place a kiss on his cheek, he's momentarily stunned like I've just cast a spell on him. I smile, glad that I have the same effect on him as he has on me
I walk around to the bed and give a small kiss to Jake who's sitting on the edge.
"Good night" I say before snuggling underneath the covers
They both say good night and before long I'm fast asleep.

Ars Magica
Our vision comes back into focus. Our eyes, while being able to perceive the immediate surroundings, still leave us with our minds uncomprehending towards what is actually occurring. Sure, there are definitive things that we can focus on, like the fact that we're either out upon the open sea or the open ocean, there not being much of a difference with no land in sight, as well as the fact that we appear to be upon a haphazardly constructed metal boat, whose seams are barely able to keep a hold of themselves in the crashing waves. However, that does not let us understand what exactly is causing the waves in the first place. If we were to rewind time, we'd find ourselves upon a calm sea under a peaceful sky with the only difference, being a small whirlpool that would be the precursor towards this uproar around the boat. Lightning flashes in the sky, with no clouds being near, and anyone actually manning the boat has either died towards the cause of the smashing tides in the first place, or are fighting amongst the flashes of lightning, all while trying not to become devoured, demolished, and utterly decimated by the beast roiling in the whirling waves. To better understand exactly what is happening here, there is one singular event that needs to be understood, that needs to be explained, and that is the arrival of a creature named Dave. Stepping back from current events and going towards this creature's first appearance in the world, we begin to hear the sound of water slowly dripping across rocky ground. The cavern is utterly silent except for this one constant, its cause feeding channels downwards, sloping towards cracks in the rubble along the floor from broken stalagmites and stalactites. And there, lying on top of something which had fallen over recently, judging from its cracks, is a person, the creature named Dave. His form is fast asleep, either from the impact or from an intoxication, judging from the smell upon its breath. A bright light suffuses into it for a second, giving life towards the pale skin, before it slowly dies down back to the comfortable black of the cave that it's within. Before this moment in time, Dave did not exist in the physical world. At least, not in the reality that he finds himself born into. We do not know whether or not his existence is simply a cosmic joke, or something that is being played out on purpose. All that we do know, is that one moment, the body was not in the cave, and simply formed in the next. The actual earliest time that we know Dave exists, is the interpolation of the memories of J-209, which we'll begin looking into shortly to gain context towards the coming narrative that is being written and hastily trying to keep itself written. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Warning: This story has several things which might turn its readers away. The first is that this story has shifting points of perspective. Don't worry about that previous sentence too much though, as the main character will always have a first person perspective associated with them. However, any other character from which we're viewing the story from will either be in third-person, as we are not necessarily in their shoes at the moment, or in first person, given that the narrator is an actual physical presence within the story. For the most part, chapters will be self-contained with their perspectives, so there will not be an abundance of switching perspectives within the same chapter. The most that an average reader would have to worry about is the fact that perspectives can switch between chapters. The second thing is that the main character is a bit on the 'special' side of things. He's not exactly mentally there most of the time, so there will be some times that his personality or his thoughts do not actively align with his actions. The third, and final thing of importance, is the fact that past the first couple of chapters, nothing has been planned in advance. There are arcs and plots that I want to do, want to implement, or have already been set into motion from our main character's introduction to the world, but the method that I use for my story writing and generating leads towards a bit more random chance being enabled. Basically...there's a lot of dice rolling behind the scenes. To not complicate the story further than its regular LitRPG elements, the rolls will not be publicly available. However, there will be knowledge within the author's notes on whether or not there were positive or negative critical rolls that had occurred within the chapter. You have been warned. Updates: Mondays & Fridays (Schedule permitting) Typical Chapter Length: (2,000-3,000)
