《Alpha Dylan》Chapter 26 | A Monster

"Yeah, your car is gone," I mumbled as I entered Clara's house, shaking my head at Patrick, yanking my phone out of my pocket and dialling Clara's number again, growling when I was sent straight to voicemail.

"This isn't right," muttered Patrick, his mouth set into a scowl.

"I've called my Beta Ethan and he's going to come over with his car. We can go and look for them," I said, sighing, running my hands through my dark hair.

"Why would she go and look for Jared all alone?" asked Patrick, running his hands down his face.

"She wouldn't have left alone without telling anyone unless something was wrong, so I have a feeling she knows where Jared is, and didn't want anyone else to come with her," I replied, shaking my head, chewing on my bottom lip.

"I can't lose them too," sighed Patrick, pulling on his jacket, dropping his head.

"Hey," I said, grabbing Patrick's shoulders, shaking them slightly until he looked up at me. "We will find them. I won't stop until we do."

"I can see how much you care for my daughter, Alpha Dylan, and I'm more than relieved she has been paired with someone like you."

I nodded, releasing Patrick's shoulders, running my tongue along the outside of my front teeth. "Ethan should almost be here, let's go."

I turned, making my way out of the door, stepping out into the wind, watching as the sun began to disappear behind the clouds, the leftover blinding orange and pink lights it created leaving glistening rays dancing across my skin.

I ensured Patrick was closely behind me before making my way down towards the lake, walking as quickly as I could towards the pack gate, nodding at my Beta Ethan as I approached his large black Jeep, causing him to hop out, his face masked with concern.

"I left as soon as you hung up, how are we going to find her?" asked Ethan, folding his arms across his chest, his thick brows furrowing.

"She didn't leave that long ago, so we might still be able to follow her scent depending on how far away she is, but we have to hurry," I replied, hopping in behind the steering wheel, gesturing for Patrick to hurry up, watching him clamber into the back seat.

"What about her brother?" questioned Ethan, pulling open the passenger side door and getting in, shutting it behind him quickly.

"I'm guessing they'll be together," I replied, starting up the Jeep and pulling out onto the road, honking at a car that was going much too slowly for my liking, swerving around it effortlessly.

I rolled down my window, attempting to catch Clara's scent, but the strong wind was making it much harder to focus on just one smell; multiple aromas wafting up my nostrils at once, causing me to growl.

"This town isn't too big, why don't we just check out everywhere and see if we can find my car?" suggested Patrick from the back seat, causing Ethan and I to look at each other, our mouths set in firm lines.

"My worry is, Patrick, that I don't think she'll be here anymore. I think we may have missed her." replied Ethan, causing me my hands to tighten on the steering wheel, my knuckles turning white.

My wolf was going crazy inside of me, and it was taking all my restraint to stop myself from shifting and losing all control, ripping everything in my path to shreds until I found my mate.

My hands started to shake at the thought of losing Clara, and I knew there was no way I would be able to continue living if anything happened to her. I refused to go on without her; there would be no reason to live.

I couldn't lose her, knowing that I had only just found her; and I refused to let anybody hurt her. I was going to do everything in my power to find her and Jared, and I wouldn't rest until I did.

"Jared, stop it, your hands are bleeding!" I growled as Jared threw another punch at the metal bars of the cell, his silver handcuffs clattering against them, causing my ears to ring.

"I just need to break them!" yelled my brother as he grunted, hitting his handcuffs against the cell as hard as he could, growling in anger when nothing happened.

I watched as his red raw hands dripped with blood, causing me to internally wince, sighing as I leaned my head against the cell bar, looking deeply into Jared's eyes.

"I don't want to die Clara." whispered my brother, swallowing harshly, shaking his head.

"Jared, listen to me, we aren't going to die." I replied, reaching my hand between the bars, ignoring the burning sensation that handcuffs were causing as they scraped against my skin, gently grabbing Jared's hand, holding it in mine. "I'm going to get us out of here."

"How, Clara? You can't shift and I can't run, as long as I'm still here, you aren't going to get out of here," mumbled Jared, causing me to sigh.

"I told you once and I'll tell you again, I'm not leaving you."

Jared growled, scooting away from me using his hands, grimacing as the silver dug into his wrists. "Oh, come on, Clara! Be selfish for once! You came here to save me, and now you're going to end up getting killed because you can't let me go. Stop trying to be the hero for once in your life!"

"I'm not trying to be a hero, Jared. Do you really think I could live with myself if I left you for dead?" I asked, furrowing my brows. "Plus, in case you didn't notice, I'm in handcuffs too, and there's not much I can do about it."

"Why did you come when he called you? Why didn't you just ignore him?"

I widened my eyes at Jared's question, swallowing harshly as I looked my brother deeply in the eyes, shaking my head. "Do you really think I could ignore someone knowing they had my brother? There was no way I was going to just do nothing, and I knew that if I brought anyone else, you'd be killed. Sawyer told me that we could sort something out, and now I know what he meant, he wanted us to come and live with him."

"What do you think he's going to do with us? I don't want to be tortured," whispered Jared, shaking his head, leaning backwards and resting it against the cold concrete wall at the back of the cell, his Adam's apple moving up and down as he swallowed.

"I don't know," I replied, sighing.

Suddenly, the sound of someone slowly creeping down the stairs echoed throughout the room, causing me to quietly gasp, swallowing nervously.

"Well, now I'm in an awful mood," mumbled Sawyer, making his way over to us until he was standing in front of our cells, looking down at us as if we were his vulnerable prey that he was going to play with.

"What is your problem?" spat my brother, causing Sawyer to growl, lurching closer to the cells, shaking his head.

"You're my problem," hissed Sawyer, his eyes turning dark and venomous. "Your mere existence is my problem."

"Well, get over it!" scoffed Jared, shaking his head, causing me to turn to my brother with wide eyes, begging him to not antagonise Sawyer any more, knowing it would only end badly.

Jared rolled his eyes, huffing loudly. "No, Clara, I'm not going to stop, if we're going to die, I'd speak up than stay quiet."

Sawyer chuckled, crossing his arms across his chest as he studied Jared and I, chewing on his bottom lip. "You're right, you are going to die, and you'll have plenty of time to speak up, because I'm not going to make it quick."

I watched in confusion as Sawyer frantically rummaged around behind him, grabbing a shiny bucket and filling it with water, pulling on a pair of thick gloves and then plucking some leaves from a nearby plant, throwing it into the bucket, causing Jared and I to look at each other with furrowed brows, concern masking our faces.

"What are you doing?" I asked, moving closer to the edge of the cell, peering over at Sawyer as he grabbed a mop, using the end of it to stir the water around in the bucket.

Smiling, Sawyer turned around, the large bucket grasped between his tow thickly gloved hands, his eyes set on my brother as he stalked towards him. "Your hands are bleeding, here, let me wash them for you."

Suddenly, Jared yelled out in pain as Sawyer flew the water from the bucket all over him, his skin instantly turning bright red, oozing blisters starting to form.

"This water has wolfsbane in it," announced Sawyer, filling the bucket up again quickly, throwing in more wolfsbane, chucking the water all over Jared once again. I winced at Jared's blood curdling scream as he scratched at his skin, curling up into a ball on the cold concrete ground.

"Stop it!" I yelled, gripping at the edge of the bars, tears dribbling down my cheeks as I watched my brother helplessly.

"Oh, I'm sorry, did you want a turn?" laughed Sawyer, filling up the bucket once again and stalking towards me, causing me to back myself up against the wall, hugging my knees to my chest. I looked over at Jared through blurry eyes as I watched him slowly lose consciousness, his body completely limp, causing my breathing to become rapid as I glared at Sawyer through thick eyelashes, the wolf inside of me doing her best to attempt to take control and shift, but failing.

Suddenly, a burst of pain exploded along my body; my skin feeling as it was being burned to a crisp in a matter of seconds. I screamed, covering my eyes, feeling the ice cold water hit my hands, the wolfsbane searing my flesh away, leaving me red raw and blistering. Dizziness overcame me as I was splashed once again, a raspy yell making its way out of my throat, my vision becoming blurry as I fell to the ground, my head hitting the wet concrete floor.

I closed my eyes, holding in my screams of pain, listening for the sound of the bucket being filled up again, letting out a small sigh of relief when I didn't hear it, peeking my right eye open slightly.

"That's me letting you off easy," growled Sawyer, flinging the bucket to the other side of the room, his eyes lingering on us as he shook his head.

I watched as Sawyer brought his shaking hands to the back of his neck, pacing back and forth as he studied us, his brows furrowing, looking panicked all of a sudden.

Suddenly, more footsteps echoed throughout the room, and I arched my neck slightly to see my Mother making her way down the steps, her eyes shifting to a deep black as she took in the scene in front of her.

"Marie, I-" mumbled Sawyer, making his way over to his mate, but grunting in pain as he was pushed backwards. I watched in shock as my Mother held her mate by the neck against the wall, his face turning bright red as she looked back at us, shaking her head.

"They're unconscious," stated my Mother, pressing her thumb deeper into Sawyer's neck, causing him to gag. "Would you like to tell me why, Sawyer?"

"I-I didn't mean-"

"What did I say? I told you to take them back to where they came from," growled my Mother, dropping her mate to the floor, kicking him in the face, causing him to crumble into a heap, lying unconscious on the floor. Through blurry vision, I saw my Mother grab Sawyer by the shirt, dragging his limp body up the stairs and out of the room, her face stern as she did so.

"We've been searching for hours Dylan, we need to go back and let Alpha Paul know that Clara has gone missing too," said Patrick, causing me to pull up onto the side of the road, sighing as I ran my hands through my hair in frustration.

"This wind is making catching her scent nearly impossible," I growled, turning to Ethan. "Have our fighters found anything?"

My Beta shook his head, double checking his phone. "No, like us, they've caught the scent a couple of times, but it's hard to track."

"Well, we can't stop, we need to-"

I furrowed my brows as my phone began to ring, stopping me mid sentence. I pulled it out of my pocket, furrowing my brows at the unknown number.

"Hello?" I said, putting my phone to my ear.

Ethan and Patrick gazed at me questionably as I listened to the voice on the other end, both of their eyebrows raised.

"I'm on my way," I said, throwing my phone into the back seat, and pulling the hand break up, revving the engine.

"Where are we going?" asked Patrick, his voice laced with hope.

"To get Clara and Jared."
