《Alpha Dylan》Chapter 23 | Road Trip

I gazed up at my younger brother, tears brimming my eyes as I took in his battered form, guilt bubbling up inside of me.
"Jared, can you hear me?" I whispered, nudging him, hissing from the pain of the wolfsbane coated chains scraping against my flesh, taking the top layer of skin off.
I pulled my knees up to my chest, dropping my head down so it was resting on them. I didn't know what to do, and I didn't know if Jared or I was going to make it out of this alive, but I knew that if we were going to die, at least I tried to save him, and he wasn't just left to rot thinking nobody was out there looking for him.
I knew Dylan would probably be looking for me by now, and since I wasn't that far away from the pack, he would be able to smell me out eventfully. However, I was sure that Sawyer knew that, and would either kill us or move us along soon, taking us somewhere unknown. I just hoped that I could stall Sawyer for as long as I could until Dylan eventually showed up, attempting to not be killed in the process.
"Clara?" mumbled Jared, causing me to raise my head, peering at my weak looking brother who was now propping himself up on the chair, gazing down at me with confusion plastered across his face.
"Jared!" I exclaimed, pulling on my chains, scooting closer to him. "What did he do to you?"
"The last thing I remember was him smashing up my wheelchair," muttered my brother, attempting to wipe the sweat away from his forehead, his brows furrowing when he realised he was cable tied to the chair.
"Did he hurt you?" I growled, raising my eyebrows, my gaze drifting down to the multiple bruises starting to form on his face.
"Yeah, he got pretty mad when I told him I wasn't going to help him lure you here. He wanted me to call you and ask you to meet me here."
"Has he told you anything? Do you know who his mate is?" I questioned, swallowing harshly, causing Jared to sigh, nodding.
"Yeah, he told me everything. Why did you come Clara? How did he get you here?"
"He called me threatening to kill you if I didn't come. There was no way I was going to let that happen, Jared!" I exclaimed, shaking my head.

"Does anyone know where you are? Did you tell Dad or Dylan?"
I shook my head, chewing on my bottom lip. "I knew they wouldn't let me come, and Sawyer said if I brought anyone else, you'd be dead. I couldn't risk it."
"So instead you risk your life as well?!" growled my brother, his dark eyebrows furrowed, sitting on top of his piercing dark eyes.
"I didn't know what else to do, Jared! I had to do something, I wasn't given much time to think!" I huffed, sighing heavily, wiping my hair out of my face.
"Where's Sawyer?"
I shrugged, shaking my head. "I don't know. He had a mental breakdown and then left."
"A mental breakdown?" questioned Jared, raising his eyebrows.
"Yeah, he started freaking out about how he couldn't kill us, and then he got angry and left. He's actually crazy!"
Jared nodded, cocking his head to the side as if he was thinking. "Okay, he's weak minded."
"What?" I asked, raising my eyebrows.
"He's clearly not set in stone about what he's going to do, which means he can easily persuaded. We need to try and manipulate him."
"It might get us killed." I mumbled.
"It looks like we're going to die anyway, Clara. We might as well give it a shot."
I nodded, hissing in pain as my wrists started to burn even more from the friction of the silver chains.
"What's wrong?" asked my brother, worry masking his face.
"These chains have wolfsbane around them," I said between gritted teeth, closing my eyes and taking a few deep breaths, composing myself.
"I wish I could break out of these cable ties, but my wolf is so weak!" growled Jared, attempting to flail his arms, and yelling out in frustration when his attempt failed.
"Jared, be quiet! Sawyer will come back!" I said in a hushed tone, shaking my head.
"I don't care, I want him back in here so I can tell him what a worthless piece of crap he is!"
"If you do that he will kill you! Just calm down!" I begged, pushing myself up onto my knees so I was eye level with my brother.
Suddenly, the sound of the double doors creeping open echoed throughout the dark warehouse, sending a shiver up my spine. I peered into the darkness to see Sawyer stalking towards us, his eyes dark.

"Do you guys want to see your Mother?" asked Sawyer, folding his arms across his chest, wrinkling his cotton grey shirt.
Jared and I stared up at him in disbelief, our mouths hanging open, completely unsure of what to say.
"This is the last time I'm going to ask!" growled Sawyer, kneeling down in front of us, his gaze shifting between my brother and I. "Would you two like to see your Mother?"
"You mean the woman that left us?" chuckled Jared, rolling his eyes, gliding his tongue along the front of his teeth as he shook his head. "She doesn't care about us."
"Well, you have two options, because we can't stay here. You both come to live with me and your Mother, or I kill you," said Sawyer, picking at his nails, raising his eyebrows. "The choice is yours."
"Well, isn't that kind of-"
"We'll go with you," I said, quickly interrupting Jared, causing him to glare at me with wide eyes, confusion and concern masking his face.
"Both of you will come? And you will be my children?" questioned a slightly shocked Sawyer, cocking his head to the side.
"Yes, we will both come," I stated, swallowing harshly.
"Once we get there, you will call me Dad. I don't want to hear anything about your old pack or life; they no longer exist. You always have been and always will be, my children," said Sawyer, smiling.
Jared let out a low growl, causing Sawyer to furrow his brows, slowly stalking over to him, kicking at the foot of his chair gently. "Do I need to kill you and just take home my daughter?"
"No," I interjected. "Jared will come willingly. We want to see our Mother."
"If you're trying to trick me little girl, it's not going to work. If this is all a game, I won't hesitate to slit both of your throats before we get there, and your Mother will never know," warned Sawyer, shaking his head at me.
"It's not a game. You said we have two options, and I would prefer to live. I think seeing our Mother might be what we need. Our old lives were missing something. Maybe starting fresh is what's best," I replied, holding my head high, keeping my face emotionless.
"You said you had a mate? He won't be a problem, will he?"
"If he find us, I will tell him I no longer want him, and he can get on with his life without me," I said through gritted teeth, causing my wolf to growl inside of me, clawing to get out.
"He's already tried calling you fifteen times," growled Sawyer, dangling my phone out in front of me, causing my heart to drop.
"Really? Well, maybe I should call him back before we go?" I asked, attempting to stall as best as I could, causing Jared to nod in agreement.
Sawyer burst out laughing, bracing his hands on his knees as he spluttered, peering at me through thick eyelashes, shaking his head. "You think I'm going to let you speak to your mate? Clara, you don't have a mate anymore. You've chosen to start a new life without him."
"I know, but don't you think I should tell him so he doesn't try to find me?"
"No," grunted Sawyer, crushing my phone in his hand, lobbing it against the wall with as much force as he could, causing it to shatter into a thousand pieces, causing me to gasp.
"You broke my phone," I growled, standing up.
"You won't need a phone anymore. You're starting a new life. In fact, maybe we should change both of your names," suggested Sawyer.
"I am not changing my name," laughed Jared, shaking his head.
"Our Mother gave us these names. We aren't changing them," I said, shaking my head.
"Very well. We can talk about it later on. We need to get going, we have a long drive ahead of us."
