《Alpha Dylan》Chapter 22 | Who Are You?

"Who the hell are you?" I spat, peering in front of me to see a tall dark haired male standing in the middle of the room, dim lights causing shadows to cast across his face, morphing his features.

I swallowed harshly, my breathing sparse as I studied the room, spotting my brother slumped over on a chair, his wrists tied down with cable ties; his wheelchair smashed up beside him, one of the wheels hanging off.

"Jared!" I yelled, taking a step forwards, causing the mystery man to stalk towards me, a smirk playing on his lips as he shook his head at me, backing me against the wall.

I stared up at the man, shock overwhelming me as the image of him from the diner and the mall played over and over in my head, causing my heart to start beating out of my chest.

"You- you were at the diner. You were following me!" I whispered, causing the man to chuckle, rolling his eyes.

"And you're shocked?" he asked, his husky tone bouncing off the walls, causing my ears to ring.

I gripped my knife harder, resisting the urge to stab him right in the neck, wanting to wait for the exact right moment so I could get Jared and myself out as safely and quickly as possible.

"Well, yes, I don't know who you are," I replied between gritted teeth, shifting my gaze to my unconscious brother who bruised and battered, anger bubbling up inside of me at the thought of someone hurting my own flesh and blood.

"That's funny Clara, because I know you, and Jared, and your Mother."

My ears pricked up at the mention of my mother, and I looked up at the man with wide emerald eyes, my entire body shaking. "What? Where is she?"

The man rolled his eyes, chuckling slightly, crossing his arms over his chest. "Don't you worry about your Mother, she's at home, and she thinks I'm at work."

"You're her...?" I trailed off, dropping my gaze, not wanting to look at the man that my Mother had left me for.

"Her mate? Yes."

I swallowed harshly, shaking my head, growling lowly under my breath. "You were the one who kept calling?"

"That's correct," the man shrugged, a smirk playing at his thin lips.

"Who are you? What's your name?" I questioned, my wolf begging me to shift and lunge at him, ripping him into a thousand pieces.

"And why do you want to know that?"

I sighed, running my free hand through my dark hair, shaking my head. "It would be nice to know the name of my Mother's mate."

He studied me for a few seconds, looking me up and down as if he was trying to see through me, but eventually he sighed, dropping his gaze. "Sawyer."

"What do you want?" I asked, my eyes welling up with tears as I looked up at him, fear overcoming me, scared that this man was going to end it all, leaving my Father all alone.

"What have you got there?" asked Sawyer, nodding towards my sleeve, raising his dark eyebrows.

I gasped, pulling my sleeve close to my chest as Sawyer grabbed my wrist, attempting to grapple the knife from my hand, cutting both of us in the process. Blood trickled down my sleeve, dripping onto the hard stone flooring, creating a puddle beneath us.

"Get off!" I screamed, yanking my wrist away and sinking the knife into Sawyer's back as deep as I could, knowing it wasn't going to do a whole lot of damage.

Sawyer yelled in pain, growling as he pulled the knife from his back, causing blood to squirt out. He threw the knife across the room, sending it clattering against the stone flooring, the sound echoing throughout the room. Sawyer lunged forwards, gripping my neck and lifting me up off the ground, holding me up so I was eye level to him.

"That was very brave of you," he mocked, chuckling to himself as he took in my blood covered form. Suddenly, I was thrown across the room, hitting the floor with a thud next to my brother, my shoulder cracking from the sudden harsh contact, causing pain to radiate throughout my entire arm. I let out a yell, pushing myself into a sitting position, watching Sawyer stalk towards me, before crouching down in front of me, shaking his head.

"What do you want?! Do you want money?!" I said desperately, clutching at my painful shoulder.

Sawyer chuckled, shaking his head at me. "You think I want your money? I don't care about money, Clara!"

"Then what do you want?!" I yelled, causing Jared to stir next to me, his limp body wriggling slightly.

"Do you have a mate Clara?" Sawyer asked, growling.

I nodded hesitantly, not wanting to give any information about myself away, although, I was sure he already knew the answer.

"Well, how would you feel if your mate had children with someone else before you met?"

My eyes widened at the question, my mouth hanging open, wanting to answer, but my brain wouldn't allow me.

"You two shouldn't be alive!"

I recoiled back at the sound of the agonising yell, my adrenaline racing around my body, causing my heart to palpitate, dizziness overcoming me for a few seconds.

"You're only supposed to have children with your mate, and your Mother decided to have you two! You were both a mistake!"

I growled, shooting to my feet, making my way over to Sawyer, anger bubbling up inside of me, spilling over. "You have her, okay?!" I screamed. "My Mother chose you over us. She left her own two children and husband for her mate, so what more do you want?!"

Suddenly, Sawyer pulled out his hand, slapping me across the face, causing me to lose my balance and tumble to the ground, clutching at my stinging cheek.

"Do not yell at me or I swear to God I will rip your heart out of your chest!" threatened my Mother's mate, his eyes glowing a bright yellow as he turned around, punching at the concrete wall, denting it, the sound of his knuckles cracking causing me to jump.

"Why does it matter? We aren't in her lives anymore, just have your own children with her," I said calmly, attempting to reason with Sawyer, not wanting to be struck again.

"I can't! I can't give her what she wants! I can't have kids with her!" he yelled, slumping down against the wall, smacking the back of his head against the wall, large thudding noises echoing throughout the large room. "We tried so many times, but I couldn't give it to her!"

"What? Why?" I asked, gaining a growl from Sawyer, his bottom lip quivering. "You're infertile...?" I whispered, mostly to myself, dragging my plump bottom lip into my mouth, sucking on it harshly.

"I'm not a murderer, I can't murder a bunch of kids, I already tried and it didn't work. I can't do it again," Sawyer whispered to himself, tears rolling down his cheeks as he clutched onto either side of his head, rocking back and forth.

Fear overwhelmed me, watching our capturer completely lose it and have a mental breakdown, my heart beat pulsating in my throat.

"I thought the crash would kill him," Sawyer muttered, banging his head against the cold brick wall behind him, causing me to flinch at the loud crack.

"Kill who?" I growled lowly, already knowing the answer. I gazed over at my paralysed brother, feeling rage surge through me as my wolf attempted to surface.

Sawyer gazed up at me, his once tearful eyes glazing over and becoming dark and stormy. "I think you know what I'm talking about."

"They never caught the driver. It was you! You caused the crash!" I growled through gritted teeth, trying to control myself, knowing that losing it would probably just get me killed.

"And it didn't even kill him," spat Sawyer as he glared at my brother, nostrils flaring as he shook his head in disgust.

Needing to change the subject, knowing I wasn't going to be able to control my wolf any longer, I turned away from my brother, forcing myself to think about something else, watching Sawyer as he growled at me.

"Does my Mother know what you're doing?" I questioned, causing Sawyer to take a deep breath, shaking his head, scrambling to his feet.

"No, she doesn't know, and she'll never know."

I shook my head, glaring up at the sick and twisted man above me. "She'll find out, and then she'll see you for who you really are, and she'll leave you. You're going to end up all alone if you go through with this."

Sawyer growled, grabbing my rucksack and throwing it across the room, letting out a ferocious roar. "No, she won't ever leave me! I won't let her!"

I swallowed my fear, knowing I had to stand my ground, not wanting to show this man any fear. "The word will get around. She'll hear about it some way or another. Are you really able to truly hurt your mate like that? By killing her own children?"

I could see my words sinking in, causing Sawyer's eyes to turn a mopey cloudy grey as he dropped his gaze, seeming to stare into space as took in my manipulative words, shaking his head ever so slightly.

"I thought she didn't care about you," mumbled Sawyer, refusing to look at me. "But I hear her say your names in her sleep all the time."

My heart sank at Sawyer's confession, making the small longing feeling I had hidden away inside of me multiply by a thousand, seeming to crush my insides. Tears welled up in my eyes, and I attempted to swallow them down, not wanting to appear emotional in front of my capturer.

"What did you do to Jared?" I whispered, turning around to see my battered brother's form had moved and he was now sitting upright in the chair, with his head hanging back, his eyes still closed. I ran over, pressing my fingers to his neck, checking for a pulse, and sighing heavily when I found one.

"He's not dead," said Sawyer, making his way closer to us, his breathing still rapid and heavy.

"You hurt him," I growled, rage bubbling up inside of me, my wolf begging me to let her out and fight. I sighed heavily, feeling my teary eyes shift from their usual emerald green to jet black, enjoying the feeling of my wolf taking over.

Sawyer growled at me warningly, reaching into the back pocket of his jeans and pulling out a small pistol, aiming it at Jared. "If you shift, I shoot him straight in the head, and he's dead."

I stopped mid step, my wolf instantly retreating, knowing we were definitely not faster than a bullet, and a single shot to the head could kill.

"You said we could sort something out," I said between gritted teeth. "You lied."

Sawyer shrugged, slowly putting the gun back into his back pocket, keeping eye contact with me the entire time. "I didn't lie."

"You did. You're going to kill us both," I growled lowly.

"I-I..." Stuttered Sawyer, chewing on his bottom lip as he scowled down at the ground, shaking his head. "Come and live with us."

"What?" I asked, furrowing my brows, looking up at Sawyer in pure confusion.

"We can't have children, so, come and be our children. We could all be a family, and you'd get to see your Mother again!" suggested Sawyer, his eyes holding pure joy and excitement as he smiled, gazing of into the distance.

"You're crazy!" I yelled, shaking my head and backing away, not knowing what to say or do anymore.

"Then you leave me with no choice," huffed Sawyer, stalking over to the corner of the room and grabbing some shackles that were hung up on the wall.

"Don't come near me with that!" I yelled as Sawyer made his way over to me, grabbing my wrists, wrapping the shackles around them tightly, causing me to cry out in pain.

"These handcuffs have been wrapped in wolfsbane, so the more you struggle, the more it'll hurt!" warned Sawyer, chaining me to the wall, leaving me only a tiny bit of chain to move, but not enough to reach my brother.

"Stop! Let me go!" I screamed, attempting to allow my wolf to take over, knowing that the only way I was going to get out of this was with her, but Sawyer chuckled, crossing his arms over his chest and gazing down at me as if I was his weak and injured prey he was about to devour.

"You can't shift, the wolfsbane weakens your wolf by the second," he laughed, running his hands through his dark hair, crouching down in front of me.

"If you have a phone or anything on you, hand it over now."

"I can't move my hands," I replied, glaring at Sawyer as he laughed, reaching forwards and yanking my phone and car keys from my back pocket, not enjoying the feeling of him being so close to me, causing a wave of nausea to wash over me.

"You're sick," I mumbled, causing Sawyer to study me, furrowing his brows as he looked between Jared and I, eventually sighing and quickly making his way out of the room, slamming the heavy double doors behind him.

Thoughts of Dylan invaded my mind, and I knew he would probably be going frantic by now, wondering where I was. I knew he would be able to smell me out, so I was either going to be killed pretty soon, moved from here, or be rescued.

I hoped and prayed it wasn't the first two...
