《Mine to Protect (Completed)》Chapter 41

Third Person’s POV
“You imbecile! You had one job and that was to keep Sophia in check and you failed. I should kill you now, but unfortunately I still need you. FIND HER! Now get out of my sight before I change my mind.”
Exiting the building I was fuming. I don’t know how Sophia managed to finally allude my grasp but she did. And now I had to find her before my time ran out. I have been watching her since her teens making sure the bind stayed in place, reinforcing it with my magic so that she never found her inner strength.
It has been months since I have seen her, my magic would have worn off by now and time was running out.
Sophia’s POV
Poor Knox, my mate is seriously stressing out. While I couldn’t really blame him having over 200 new pack members in one week would cause anyone to freak out a little bit. Now add to the fact that none of them were actual wolves…I figured he was coping as well as could be expected.
For some unknown reason my wolf was jumping at joy with regards to all the new pack members. When I questioned her giddiness she kept replying…you will see.
I look over to my handsome mate and reach for his hand. I figured he needed some moral support right about now. Standing before us was the entire pack. Luckily the field was the size of about 6 football fields otherwise it would be very tight for our 1878 members.
For some reason I knew more would be headed our way, but I kept that little tidbit to myself. Knox was doing a wonderful job welcoming everyone and explaining the new changes that were taking place. He was so amazing to watch and listen to when he was in full Alpha mode. Downright sexy as well.

“As you all know we have never been a pack that has pass judgment on anyone and we continue on with that same principle. I know many of you are questioning my motives with welcoming our new members, but I promise you that they will only make us stronger.
New members, as I call your groups please set to the front. First we have 45 Gnomes joining us…welcome to the Lovell Pack. Your gardening expansion have already made a huge difference in the food supply for the pack, we now produce more fruits and vegetables then we ever have and I for one love the new orchard and green house. They have also implemented many new changes at the pack hospital that have allowed our staff to become more efficient and organized, definitely another bonus. So again, welcome and thank you for your efforts.
Next we have 52 Elves, who along with the Gnomes have created a very intricate tree platform homes. I must say I am extremely impresses that in a few short days our border is now protected from the air as well as the ground. Next week the Elves will be working with our warriors teaching them some different fighting techniques. They have already manned their lookout towers with weapons to assist in an attack. I have been very impressed with their range and accuracy from up above. Again welcome and thank you.
Now let’s welcome our mix of shifters. I will just list them all out. We have 12 were-bears, 16 were-panthers, and 18 were-lions. Their strength in fighting will definitely be a huge asset to our warriors.
And last but not least we have 47 new witches, who by coincidence are all mated to the previous shifters mentioned. Among their combined talents we have many healers, herbalists, and elements.”

Knox continued to thank certain individuals and explain the new living arrangements. As I surveyed the crowd, I could see most pack members were happy with the new additions, but there were some that were not. Those are the ones that I concentrated on. So far none had malicious thoughts just frustration on the situation. Some people just didn’t accept change as easily as others.
Luna Sophia, I found them.
Where Vlad?
There are four in the back, right-hand corner by the water. Shirtless. Blue Jeans. Do you know them?
Ah…yes, I do know them. Can you have them tracked and their memories altered?
Already on it. My men will make sure they forget all the new security measures the Alpha is now addressing. Will also remove their knowledge of your new additions.
Wonderful Vlad, did you find anyone else?
No, I have read through all those present and they were the only four. How about you.
How did you know that is what I was doing?
Really Sophia, give a vampire some credit…great minds think alike.
Yes we do…but no, I have only found those not happy with the situation, but still show loyalty.
Do you want to have the men taken to the cells?
Just one, have it seem like he is running a mission with your team and have him taken to the cells. The others, put a man on each. I want to know ever move they make.
Yes, Luna. My thoughts exactly.
Knox was just finishing up his speech and thanked everyone for coming. Cheers followed. My mate was extremely loved by his people and it was nice to see. Making his way over; he placed a kiss on my cheek.
Looking behind me, he nodded to Vlad. Well?
Mission accomplished. Sophia will fill you in on our plan. I have to instruct my men.
“Well my love, how many traitors do we have amongst us?”
“Only four and Vlad is handling it. By this evening we will have one to question without the other three knowing.”
Giving my mate another kiss we made our way off the stage to mingle with our new family. Tonight we would find out the answers we needed.

The Queen's Guard
Friedrich Schreiner is a proud gefreiter of the Queen's Guard, 2nd Company: the finest fighting infantry on the continent (barring the Temple Guard; but please don't bring that up). Service is honourable but, with the Empire on a peacetime footing, terribly boring. Affairs take a dramatic turn for the worse when a mysterious invader uses a forgotten and taboo magical means to breach the capital, plunging the nation into chaos and endangering the royal family. With events spiraling out of control, Friedrich is entrusted with a critical mission. Will hot lead, cold steel, and his determination be enough to see him through? The Queen's Guard is what I'm calling a black powder fantasy story: it's set in a loose equivalent of the early 18th century (plus or minus a few pieces I decided I wanted or didn't want). Magic exists, but not in a spell-slinging sort of way: it's Earth-shaking undertakings or minor enchantments forged in by master craftsmen, the grand working of a secretive cabal or a slight nudge to the course of a blow. I, the eternal optimist, have a full trilogy in mind. The first book is The Prince's Arquebusier, hence the cover and the title disagreeing! This is my shot at 2021's NaNoWriMo and RR Writathon! I've hitherto been terrible at writing long-form fiction, so this is an effort to break out of that by having some accountability in being supposed to post chapters regularly. Here's hoping it works! I have an outline, but not too much detail. I'll do my best to avoid continuity errors, doing anything glaringly stupid, or otherwise fluffing my lines, but I can't make any promises on that. Please do let me know any feedback! Always happy to improve. [participant in the Nov 2021 Royal Road Writathon challenge]
