《Mine to Protect (Completed)》Chapter39

Vlad’s POV

Sophia was magnificent. She was able to take down over 300 wolves with just a few commands. It was one of the most impressive things I have seen in my very long life. My men were all stunned into silence along with the members of her pack. Before long, everyone knew what the Luna had accomplished.

It took the rest of the day to clean up and burn all the bodies that littered the forest. The good outcome of all this was that my men were able to finally feed. Now rogue was not the first choice for a vampire, but hey we were in a tight spot with limited food supply. It was like comparing a juicy filet to McDonalds. Still filling but not as mouthwatering.

The day after the attack, Knox and Sophia addressed everyone, letting them know that due to an unknown family trait, it appeared that their Luna had some witch in her. The pack cheered for their magical Luna…oh if they only knew. It seems that the Alpha definitely had a way with words.

We decided it was best to keep the extent of those powers and her purple wolf still a secret as Knox had yet to determine who the traitor was. In my spare time I wandered around the borders reading the patrol wolves, but I have yet to come across the conspirator working with Alpha George.

So far I have discovered nothing but honorable, loyal wolves. Frustrated I approached the house and noticed Knox and Sophia walking out the back door. Raine of course was not far behind as she shadowed her Queen daily. Even during the attack she was no more than 5 feet from her Queen at all times.

Many wolves were weary of having a fairy on their land, but I explained that she was with my army and was a great asset to have, especially with what great healing skills fairies possessed. To prove my point, Raine took the time to help many of the injured, after that the tension seemed to lesson. Since many wolves have never encountered a fairy I guess that had the right to be a bit skeptical. Especially since according to records fairies ceased to exist centuries ago.

“Just in time Vlad, Sophia and I are heading to the cells to speak with the prisoners. I figures she may have better luck then you and I have had.”

The prisoners, how could I forget those bastards! In the past three days between myself and Knox we have yet to determine why the rogues have attacked and also why there were so many of them. By definition rogues are pack-less wolves and for hundreds to band together was unnatural.

I was still frustrated that I could not get a read on them. Oh I could pick up all the details about their lives and why they were in the situation of being a rogue, but as to who sent them and why; remained a mystery.

No amount of torture or magic broke their resolve. It was quite impressive actually. Whatever magic protected them was strong. Stronger than mine.

Making our way across the compound to the cells I noticed many bowed as we passed. It appears that our lovely Luna has quite the fan base and she didn’t even realize it. Taking the time, she stopped and greeted many along the way. Love and admiration pour from each pack member when they received her brief attention.

Smiling to myself…oh she will make the perfect Queen. Her compassion and love for others was unconditional. I knew she didn’t realize the affect she had on people but it sure was amazing to see. Even with all the power she possessed, she was still the same Sophia from before, her humility was one of her best features. Knox was one lucky wolf.

As if reading my mind my brother sent me a large smile as he nodded his head…he too noticed the affect his beautiful mate had on others. His face was filled with pride and I couldn’t want to tell my wife that her brother had finally found the love he deserved.

The sound of the doors opening refocused my attention to the task at hand…interrogating the rogues. Time was running out and we needed to know what we were up against. The evening of the attack I phoned Alpha George complaining that he didn’t give me any warning. The smug bastard claimed that he had nothing to do with it. He stated that it seemed that he wasn’t the only one that wanted Knox’s position. Made sense but was unbelievable. Rogues just don’t join together like this, something wasn’t right.

Our group proceeded down the stairs until we found ourselves in front of the rogue we believed to be the leader as the others followed his lead without question.

“Ah you have come to torture us some more ALPHA? Well bring it on.”

With a smile Sophia patted her husband on the cheek placating him. With a quick kiss to his lips she stepped in front of the cell. Before I could stop her she placed her hands on the silver bars. Instead of jumping back from being burned she didn’t move.

The rogue stared at her in shock. “How…how are you able to touch silver? You are a wolf…”

“Yes, technically I am, but I am also more. Therefore silver does not hurt me. So let’s get start shall we? I promised my children we could watch a movie. Now tell me your name.”

The rogue sat there silent, refusing to answer. Oh the poor man was in for a rude awakening.

“Okay, well then let’s do this the hard way then.” Sophia closed her eyes and allowed Gaea forward.

Stepping back she opened the lock cell without a key. Showing off her power, the rogue began to get nervous. Too late now buddy, should have answered her the first time. Raine, Knox and myself all stepped back and leaned against the wall letting Sophia handle this her way.

She walked until she stood in front of the rogue. He stood statue still, afraid to move. Placing her hand on his chest a scream was ripped from his throat. After a few seconds she removed her hand. The man collapsed to the ground like a rag doll.

“Now tell me your name.”

“I-It is William. William Reynolds.”

“Okay William. Now tell me why you are here.”

The man didn’t answer. Dumbass apparently did not learn. Sophia reached down and placed her hand again on his shoulder. Again a blood curdling scream penetrated the air. The other three rogue prisoners shook in their cell. Guess that got everyone’s attention.

“Now let’s try this one last time. Why did you attack?”

“Be-because this pack is big and powerful. That needed to change.”

“So you attacked us with the sole purpose of killing my warriors, therefore weakening us. Is this correct?”

“Y-yes.”

“Why by sheer numbers alone you could not defeat us so why sacrifice you and your men for a suicide mission. You had to know that you would fail. And fail you did. 323 wolves are dead except for you and the other over there. My pack only lost two wolves, those that were injured are already healed. So again why?”

“We needed to see what you were capable of?”

“Well now we are getting somewhere. Who is the we?”

“I-I don’t know….honest. I never saw the man’s face. He approached us at our camp but kept to the shadows. H-He promised that any who survived would have a place among the new Prime’s army.”

“Ahh…well good old Alpha George then.”

“N-no…I mean I don’t think so. The man who addressed us was not an alpha, would have sensed it. But he did reeked of power, power stronger than an alpha.”

Well fuck. If it wasn’t Alpha George then who could it be? Sophia continued with her questioning.

“Do you know who Alpha George is and his plans to attack us as well?”

“Yes, the man told me of it, but nothing more, just that we had to attack first.”

“How was this man supposed to know the outcome if you were all killed?”

The man stared up Sophia but then his eyes met mine. “That is easy, he said that the King of the Vampires will tell him.”

What! Jumping off the wall I charged into the cell grabbing the rogue by the neck.

“What the fuck is that supposed to mean! Unlike you, I do not betray my family and even though they are wolves I still consider them my family. So explain before I drain you of your blood.”

“I-I don’t know. He said that he had that part covered.”

“Vlad relax and drop him. We trust you with our lives you know that.”

I released the scum and stepped aside. Sophia placed her hands on either side of his head. The man’s body grew stiff as she did something to him. After a few minutes she released him, his lifeless body sliding to the ground.

“Um…Sophia, what did you do to him?” I asked.

“Oh…well I got a bit carried away. I scanned his thoughts and trust me they were not pretty. Gross, I feel like I need a shower after that, but I did find out that he was telling the truth. He doesn’t know the man’s identity but it definitely was not Alpha George. I sensed magic circling the memory almost like the memory itself had magic around it. Weird…but we are definitely dealing with something more than a power hungry alpha.”

Looking at Sophia I was awed on her abilities. I could scan a person to a certain extent, but nothing like she could do. She could be downright scary at times, I was just thankful she was on our side.

Escorting her out of the cell I closed the gate behind me. “Knox what would you like me to do with the others?”

“Oh, well might as well use them for food. I know rogue is not your favorite diet but we don’t want to throw away perfectly good blood now do we. Even though 25 of your vampires have found mates among my widows you still have plenty that need fed. Bon appetite!”

“Gee thanks…you are too kind it warms my heart…”

Laughing we exited the cells leaving behind three very terrified rogues. Now if I could only figure out who I would talk to that could potentially be this mystery man?
