《Mine to Protect (Completed)》Chapter 38

Sophia’s POV

Things have calmed down these last few days and thank heavens for that. It was nice to go a few days without any more surprises. Although I don’t know what else could possibly pop up that didn’t already. My life seemed like one giant roller coaster ride, all the ups and downs were making me sick.

Vlad was finally contacted by Alpha George and they were set to attack next week, I have to say having an inside person really helped, especially with the preparation. Knox had the men training constantly as well as resting so that they were prepared for the war.

When Vlad mentioned that the other alpha joked at our extra training would not save us, Knox went ballistic. It was unheard of to betray your alpha, but it seems that we have a traitor living amongst us. It was utter betrayal to an alpha when one of your own turned against you. I tried to support Knox the best way I could but after everything I was physically exhausted trying to cope with all that has been going on.

I know I was supposed to be this big strong powerful bad-ass, but people just don’t change their perception of themselves over night. For years I considered myself to be a coward and weak, doesn’t matter what the fates tell you. I was struggling with gaining more confidence and courage. I mean it was there inside of me, but more like in the background. I couldn’t cope automatically, I needed time to process everything and I was but my mind kept drifting back to my grandmother. The one person who I believed protected me, but again I was wrong. The woman my mother told me died was very much alive and not only that but well known.

Any of our kind feared the name Mae Winters. As they should, she was considered the most lethal witch that worked for the Council. It was hard to wrap my mind around my grandmother doing the dirty work of the Council, but I could not discount all the evidence. She was a killer, wiping out entire species in the matter of hours.

Just her name invoked fear into others. When she showed up, consider yourself dead.

And here I was hoping for a happy family reunion…guess not.

As for everything else, well that seemed to fall into place now that I had time to process it.

My wolf/goddess and I were now completely in sync. I shifted freely and loved to run in my wolf form, unfortunately I had to do it in the middle of the night so that no one would notice my purple fur. I was okay with that, as long as I got to stretch my legs. It felt so comfortable, so right in my wolf form.

As of the goddess in me, well let’s just say that I no longer question my gifts. After days of practicing I had a good handle on them. I was no longer setting random fires or making objects disappear. It was huge weight off my shoulders knowing that I wasn’t going to blow up the office again.

Now after a long day of working, the kids, Knox and me were taking sometime as a family at the lake. The kids were running and playing in the edge of the water. Ella loved to be outside and it showed in her face how much she enjoyed our afternoons in the sun.

As we began to pack up an alert sounded.

Alpha…rouges have breached the border and are attacking. North border.

“Sophia take the kids to safety. I love you all.”

With a quick kiss my mate shifted and sprinted to help his men. Gathering the kids in my arms I closed my eyes and pictured my room. As the world tilted is suddenly righted and we were standing in our room.

“I have to say mom, I love that trick. Soon can we blink into me and Ella into Disneyland?”

Laughing I grabbed my son and daughter and raced them down to the safe room. Outside you could hear the fighting. As I passed the window I could see hundreds of wolves attacking. Rushing I placed the kids into the arms of Jane.

“Protect them with your life. I am heading outside to help.”

“Soph, be careful.”

After locking the door I headed back upstairs, throwing the back door open. Guards stood at the entrance as a last defense. About a hundred yards away wolves fought, tearing each other apart. Well not on my watch, not a bunch of dirty smelly rogues.

Walking towards the middle a rogue jumped, aiming for me. With a raise of my hand its neck was broken and the dead body fell to the ground. Well that is convenient. Okay time to test what I can do, here goes nothing.

Looking around I concentrated on the five groups to my left. Closing my eyes I allowed Gaea to push forward, this after all was her show.

Thanks Sophia, you don’t know how long I have waited for this moment.

Showtime Gaea, show them what we are made of.

As I raised my hands, bolts of energy shot out and hit six rogues at once, dropping them immediately. My pack members stared at me, and if it was possible, their jaws hanging open in shock.

Proceed in helping your brothers.

YES LUNA!

The wolves turned to assist the others. Looking to my left I say that two smaller female wolves were having trouble fighting off four bigger male ones. The women must have not made it to the house in time.

Glancing at the tree behind them I called on nature to lend a helping branch. Before the wolves could close in on the women, the tree bent forward and its branches reached out and pierced the heart of each rogue wolf, before pulling back and retuning to its former position. The wolves dropped where they stood.

Glancing at the wolves I smiled. Head to safety.

Thank you LUNA!

Realizing that there were a hundred more rogues still racing through our boards I need to speed up a bit. At the rate I was going, it was taking too long and more of my pack members would fall.

“ROGUES I COMMAND YOU TO FREEZE AND SUBMIT.”

As the command left my mouth, hundreds of wolves were frozen instantaneously. Those that were in midair were dropped to the ground. Wolves who were not rogues froze as well, but from shock. Not knowing what was going on I hear Knox’s command.

Finish them!

In the matter of minutes hundreds of dead rogues littered the ground. A large black wolf made its way from the tree line. Ah, my mate was safe.

You know my mate, my warriors had things under control, but I appreciate the help.

You know me Knox, always willing to lend a hand. And look I didn’t even break a nail!

Oh you are funny my goddess. You know I wanted you safely tucked away with the children, would you mind explaining why you are not? Hummm.

Oh hush Knox, did you really think I was going to stay hidden and not assist when you know damn well that I can, I mean take a look around. I know you and your warriors are capable but so am I.

I know baby, but…

Don’t you “but” me mister. I am a freakin goddess and I can take care of myself. I am more than CAPABLE of taking down a few measly rogues. I am strong, powerful and even though it is in your nature I DO NOT NEED TO BE SAFE GUARDED. I refuse to hide so do not expect me to. It was time you realized that I am not WEAK nor a COWARD! Do you hear me Mr. Alpha!

Yes baby, I hear you…but do you hear yourself?

What the hell was that supposed to mean? Of course I heard myself, after all I was the one saying it. I was the trying to explain that I was no longer…OHH. Smug bastard. Way to throw my words back at me.

Well played Mr. Alpha, well played.

Anytime my lovely mate, any time. By the way, have I told you how sexy you are when you are in full out Gaea-bitch mode…damn never knew it would get me so hot and bothered…can we fight more often? I hear make up sex is great!

Stuff it Knox, I am still worked up. I need to make sure the injured are taken care of first so you will have to hold those thoughts until later tonight.

With pleasure baby, actually with both of our pleasures…

You are such a freak…but I love you.

Me too…
