Lycus's pov

I stormed out of Akanther's castle in a fit of rage. I couldn't stay back wasting my time in trying to get answers out of that weakling. He was the ruler of the vampires yet the weakest I had ever come across, how that happened? I couldn't phantom.

All the more reason he needed Nyx for the dumb sacrifice! His thirst for power has him seeking out my mate and it made me livid. At first when I received his letters, I had thought he was bluffing and simply playing games as he was quite the comical man just as his existence was a joke, but mother had confirmed it and so did her fellow members at the wolves council.

If Akanther was to sacrifice Nyx and feed off her blood, he could become the most powerful in an abominable way since Nyx was cursed as they said.

What do you think spyro? I asked my raging wolf as we led the troops out of the pale leeches land, He seems to be telling the truth.

We have about six more kingdoms and I should say we search them even if they do not pose a threat, you never can tell, He gritted.

What if she left us? I asked sadly as the feeling of loneliness crept through me, I missed her, her innocent smiles and pearly laughter. What if she actually left because of everything that has happened to her as a result of being mated to me?

For the Alpha King you are such an idiot! Spyro snorted at me, What do you mean by that? Oh! She would leave without her daughter? I still wonder how I am paired to you and for the umpteenth time I rather be paired with an owl! This is all your fault, you should have made her stay back as I insisted so fix it!

"Where are we headed to Alpha." Laya asked interrupting my conversation with Spyro, "We have searched around the thickets and caves but there is no sign of her."

"Divide the troops and send them to each of the other kingdoms to search for her." I said to her walking towards the edge of the cliff, "They had better search carefully not a single mistake."

"And if we do not find her?" She asked me, "What is your other plan?"

"I do not know laya."

"I say we question the pack members, every single member of the pack just in case it is an inside job." why didn't I ever think of that?

"That is brilliant Laya." I appraised.

"We should start with my mother." She said sadly and I gave her a questioning look, "She is my prime suspect. She never came down for the ball plus she had wanted Nyx out of the way despite me finding my own mate."

Truth was evident in her words, I couldn't deny it. My blood boiled anew thinking of her mother actually hurting my mate, "Why are you doing this tho?" I asked her, "She is your mother, why are you helping Nyx and betraying her?"

"Cause I feel sorry for all that I have done." She bent her head in shame, "I have done unspeakable things to Nyx and I have tried to bring you all apart. It was just too cruel of me and I feel guilty till today." She said, "Despite everything she never really retaliated and she just kept calm. I am doing this to make up for my mistakes, I owe her my life and loyalty even if it means calling out my own mother."

I grinned at her, "You have spoken like the true Beta of the blackmoon pack, I wish Nyx were here to hear it all."

"She doesn't have to be here Alpha." She smiled, "She only has to see my efforts in trying to save her."

I watched her as she walked away and I saw Willow come towards me too. Her eyes were all puffy and red with wet cheeks.

"What's wrong?" I asked her with quirked brows.

"What if something terrible is happening to her right now and it gets too late before we find her, I miss her so much." She blurted out in between sobs.

"I feel much worse willow but I promise you we will, soon." I said to her trying to assure while also trying to convince myself that we would.

All kingdoms were searched but my lovely mate still hadn't been found. My anger was hard for me to keep at bay and if I wasn't careful enough I would cause unnecessary wars that would worsen things.

We reached my territory two days later after searching for Nyx in vain, the warriors I had dispatched to search other packs and question their Alphas also returned empty handed.

Soul wrenching grief dawned on me as I walked into the castle and straight to xerxes's chambers to find out what he had about the strange scent that was perceived in Nyx's room.

"It is used to mask scents." He said to me tapping in cane on the tiled ground, "Very powerful, whoever took her must be working with strong witches or hybrids."

"Fay?" I questioned both him and myself as I wondered who they might be working with, it couldn't be fay, she has been missing for sometime now, "How does it work?"

"Now that is what I was wishing to explain to you." He frowned, "You see...I believe there must be someone within the pack that is a traitor."

"How so?!" I gritted, whoever it is was dead when I find out their identity!

"This potion works in parts. Firstly, you have to take in scillian's grains through food or drink so when the potion is applied on you, it works perfectly well, it is called scillian's elixir, you must have heard of it?"

"No idea what you speak of but someone is going to die!" I growled loudly and he flinched.

"What did she eat at the ball that Night?"

"My food and drink, we ate from the same plate and drank from the same cup, but I didn't notice anything weird."

"Hmmm." Xerxes hummed as I thought deeply trying to recall all that happened that night, "Are you sure?"

"Ah! Ah!" I jumped, "She took a glass of wine when we were on the dance floor."

"She must have been given the substance through the wine." He concluded, "We have to question the pack members."

"Laya suggested that while we were away and I have two suspects, her mother and Andros, the hybrid."

"Well carry on then, I will get to making the truth potion to ensure that they do not tell lies."

I glared at him in all animosity as he held my gaze, "Tell me where she is!"

"I do not fucking know!" I slapped him across the face and at the same time flicked the silver blade in my hand, "Why the hell would I take her?"

"Cause you love her just as much as I do and you want her for yourself." I gritted harshly, "Plus I saw you leave the ball room when the vampires appeared, you must know something!"

"I do not." He cried out, "Why will I want to do this? What will I gain from harming her? She is my friend for goodness sake!"

"You are lying you mutt!" I held his face squeezing it enjoying as he writhed in pain, "I will end you!"

"Nyx will never forgive you if you do plus I took the truth potion! I am not lying!" I let go of him immediately and signalled for the guards to come and take him out. He was right, no one takes the truth potion and tells an untruth, Andros was innocent.

I grimaced as willow force fed Tracy the truth potion which she was very adamant on taking claiming that she knew nothing about my mate's disappearance.

"You had better start talking." Willow yelled at her, "swallow everything and start talking!"

"Confess all you know Tracy don't make me come in!" I growled at her, "Where the fuck is my mate?"

"I don't know anything!" She cried out and I bid willow to interrogate her more to get the truth from her but nothing was found it. She was telling the truth as per the potion.

Every other person was interrogated including my mother and Willow, the last person left was the beta. When it got to her turn, she made up an excuse not to but I didn't let her leave.

"Why are you suddenly leaving?" I glared at her and in a flash I was before the door before she got to it, "Whatever is it that you want to do can wait!"

"I do not feel comfortable being questioned after declaring my loyalty." She said backing a few steps away from me.

"Do you know something about her disappearance?" My eyes narrowed into slits and everyone in the room turned their attention to her.

"I don't know anything!"

"Take the damn truth potion and prove it!"

"I cannot, I have been your beta for years you should trust me!"

A growl ripped from me and I grabbed her face bringing her really close, "You don't want to test me Laya! If you think you are innocent, sit there and take the potion before I strip you off your position and send you to the gallows!"

I let her go and she went to sit on the chair whimpering. She was given the potion and soon the interrogation started. She knew nothing. She was right all along, she knew nothing about Nyx's disappearance and so did every other person we had questioned.

I was running out of time, my heart beat rapidly as I became gloomy with worry, Nyx was out there endangered and I wasn't the only one searching for her, Akanther was on the chase too and moon goddess forbid he finds my mate before me.

I rather fucking die and give up my throne than let that happen.
