Nyx's pov.

Those five letter words hit me like a ton of bricks as jealousy tore through me. I looked at him to see that he was blowing his cheeks out as if internally rehearsing for what was to come next. His head was bent low and his outstretched legs were now drawn up to his torso area with his hands gripping his knees tightly.

I wanted to steer him to continue but I decided to let him do it at his own pace.

"I was eighteen at the time and vigorously training to take over the throne from my father." He continued, "So few days after my eighteenth birthday, I had begun to worry about not finding my mate cause other wolves of the same age grade as mine had."

I watched him as he talked finding his present composure utterly alluring. It was like getting to see the vulnerable side of my cruel mate.

"I went on patrol with the warriors that night and we were thick into the forest when I caught the most magnificent scent." Jealousy hit me again at this statement, so he had met another female with a scent better than mine? I decide to tame my jealous feelings and let him speak, this was about him and not me.

"I traced it to a spot, the exact spot I found you. She was laying there bloodied with wild Rogues snarling at her. I immediately attacked them, finished them off and took her home." He said, "I was happy that I had found my mate, our bond was amazing but she never really let me in on her life, I thought she was just scared and untrusting. I was advised to be patient with her. She was an omega too."

She came the way the other one came. She's like her. I knew the meaning to these words now, she was an omega so was I, she was rescued from the forest like me and…

"She looked like you too." Lycus said cutting in my thoughts, "Similar soft features, blonde hair and a slim figure."

At least she didn't have a child, I sighed.

"Everything was perfect cause people were quick to love her despite her being an omega, they all looked up to her as the future luna Queen, everyone basically worshipped her." He sighed, "My parents adored her, I adored her, the pack members adored her. But, I started getting suspicious with her not wanting to get intimate with me and for us to mark each other."

At this point I clenched my fist feeling that painful tug in my heart at the thought of him marking another female, Hera growled in my head and I could see a slight smirk form on Lycus's face enjoying my evident show of jealousy.

"I took it all cool and my mum explained to me that since she has had a traumatic past, definitely she wouldn't be too comfortable getting intimate with me." He pinched the bridge of his nose yet again, "I overlooked it settling with the fact that she was mine and I was happy with her. I was ready to wait and save myself for her no matter how long it took."

Wait???! His utterances rang in my head as the realisation dawned on me, is lycus a virgin or was he a virgin or…

"I know what you are thinking Nyx." He turned to look at me, "No, I am not a virgin." He said sadly, "I have done stuff with a lot of other people but not her and not the Beta either."

I didn't have any thing to say as different thoughts ran through my mind, who was his first? Who has he done it with? They will definitely be better than me.

"Things got Messier when she started being sneaky, she would take late calls, be gone for days without telling me her whereabouts and then tell me she just wanted to be alone."

I gulped anticipating what was next.

"Eventually, she betrayed me and killed my father." A sad look was on his face now and I just wanted to reach out to him and console him but for some reason my hand still remained glued to my side.

"That day I walked in to his office to find her with the evilest of grins on her face as my dad laid in his chair limp. She was holding a tray in her hand and a cup laid shattered next to him. It didn't take me a while to realise what she had done. She tried to best me and run away but I was quick to subdue her." At this point his features spelt sadness and I had laid a hand on his back softly caressing it, "She was thrown in the dungeons, my mother was torn in anguish. After most trials and confrontations. She confessed that she wasn't my real mate and that she was sent to end the King's life. She was given potions, charms and spells to make everything seem real enough. I was heartbroken at the death of my father and at the fact that I thought I had found love but it was all fake from the beginning."

At this point, I couldn't blame him for acting the way he did. But, he could have trusted me, I had my own demons too but I gave in to him and he broke me, that was certainly unacceptable and unforgivable.

"She was sentenced to death by the wolves council. My mother was drowned in excruciating moments and so much pain at the loss of her mate that she couldn't attend any of the hearings. It took her years to get over it and it also took me years. Ever since then I vowed never to trust anyone again and certainly not an omega." I withdrew my hand at this statement while wishing that I could take back my sympathy too.

I stood up abruptly and began to walk away from him but he was quick to follow me making me halt in my tracks as he stepped before me.

"Move out of my way." I seethed.

"Look Nyx, my last sentence came out wrong I am sorry." He took my hands in his, my efforts to break free from his hold were useless, "And I was stupid for thinking you were going to do the same thing to me."

"Damn right, you are!" I replied, "And I have decided to stop being the meek girl everyone walks over so leave me be!"

"I need another chance."

"Go and get it from the beta."

"I want you, only you." He said with his voice breaking a bit and that moved something in me. I met his gaze looking into his dark orbs as they stared down into mine pleading silently, "I was just scared that you were going to break my heart again and I knew I wouldn't be able to handle it knowing the affection and care I have grown for you. I was stupid all through from the moment I met you till when I saw you lying dead in that bath tub and I knew I couldn't lose you. Please Nyx, I would do anything…"

"No…" My resistance was weak as his words were breaking me. I didn't know if he was manipulating me again or he was being genuine, "I can't…"

"Why not?"

"You will hurt me again."

There was a silence from him and that was my answer, he wasn't sure if he was going to act right if I wanted to stay with him.

"Fine then." He finally said, "I will try not to." I raised a brow at him, "Fuck! I won't hurt you." He went on his knees at this point not minding if there were other pack members around, "Please, just this once."

"Okay…" I said lowly with a blush tinting my cheeks. He cheered happily, leapt to his feet and picked me up turning me round and round in glee.

"You won't regret this." He said and I smiled hoping that I actually wouldn't. I hoped he was going to do right this time and I wouldn't look back at this day and regret giving him another chance.

From the far corner of my eye, I could see the Beta's mother standing near a wall with her hands crossed on her chest and her eyes glinting at our direction in hatred.

Her looks sent a cold chill down my spine and I gulped at the intensity of her gaze.

She was surely up to something and I didn't want to know what it was.
