《The Mafia Man's Girl》Chapter 71: Home

Arya's POV -
The rest of the day was pure relaxation. Rome and I barely left our room, only once to see how Elijah and James were doing.
I tried to walk normally as we went to their room. I could see Rome's smirk from the corner of my eye as he squeezed my hand making me scowl slightly. My muscles were definitely not as sore but they were still tender.
Knocking on the door, Elijah gave us a blank stare while letting us in, his eyes shifting over to the blonde man laying on his stomach in the bed.
Asleep.
It was nearly 1 pm and he was still sleeping. I guess the alcohol really did a lot of damage.
"Has he even moved?" I question Elijah who only shakes his head, one hand running down his face in annoyance.
"He woke up once to vomit." He grumbles, running a hand though his hair before turning and sauntering to the bed, pushing James slightly. A loud snore was James' response and I giggled quietly.
"I guess we're all staying in today." Rome leans down to say against my ear and I shiver. His hand rests against my back casually.
"You guys are staying at the hotel today? Why?" Elijah narrows his eyes suspiciously and I feel my throat go dry. I didn't know he heard that.
"A bit exhausted after last night." I can hear the double meaning in Rome's words and my cheeks flush.
"I see," Elijah cautiously answers like he doesn't believe us but luckily doesn't comment further on it making me sigh in relief.
"Should we wake him up?" I ask, shifting my head up to Rome who only stares down at me. What a good answer.
"I'll get him something to eat and then wake him up." Elijah decides, walking away from James and grabbing the room key.
"Can I come with?" I blurt out unexpectedly. He gives me an odd look but shrugs, waiting by the door. Rome gives me a slight nudge towards Elijah and I smile at him, watching him sit on the other bed to watch over James.
Elijah opens the door and lets me out first before following, tucking the key into his pocket.
"There's a breakfast area downstairs, we'll get it from there." He tells me and I nod, not knowing what else to say. I'm not sure why I asked to come with in the first place. I tried to walk somewhat normally so Elijah wouldn't catch on but the soreness in my legs made it quite the challenge.
The silence was killing me and I desperately wanted to start some sort of a conversation while getting into the elevator.
"Do you like Italy so far?" He asks, leaning against the elevator wall and my eyes light up.
"I love it, everything about it. Even though It's freezing out here compared to home."
"Yeah it is a lot colder, I'll admit. Did Rome show you the bridge?"
"Oh yes! The Rialto Bridge? It was so pretty with all the lights and colors. There were surprisingly a lot of people out at that time too, it was pretty late."
"It is a sight to see." He admits, walking out once the elevator opens to the first floor.
"Maybe one day you can take your lover to Italy." I say and he stops in his tracks. I almost crash straight into his back.
"Most likely not." He replies lowly, falling back into his pace.

"Huh? Why? You'll want to take her places." Curiously tilting my head up I see that his jaw is clenched, his body also looks tense.
"Non credo che troverò presto l'amore. Non sono fatto per questo." His gaze darkens and my eyes shift to his scar briefly. It looks cool on him.
(I don't think I'll find love anytime soon. I'm not meant for it.)
"I have no clue what you just said to me."
He gives me a small smirk without saying anything and we walk into the breakfast area. Holy cow It's like a dining hall.
"You don't need to know." Walking ahead of me my mouth drops open slightly. How mean! He'll find love some day, I'm sure of it.
As Elijah orders breakfast for him and James, I turn on my phone to see multiple messages. Whoops, I haven't checked my phone in a while.
4 missed calls from Mama.
Mama: How are you? How's Italy?
Mama: Answer the phone, Arya.
Mama: Are you hurt?
Papa: Your mother is freaking out saying you aren't answering. Please answer the phone.
Cassidy: I told you to update me on your vacation and send pictures! Is it cause you're so distracted by your boyfriend???
Cassidy: Girl you better give me all the details when you get back.
Sending a few pictures I took of Italy such as the bridge and the area itself to Cassidy, I look up and see that Elijah is still waiting near the kitchen for the food he ordered so I decide to call mama to ease her nerves. I didn't mean to ignore her, I just forgot. I knew that'd happen.
"Arya Cadel, I hope you have a good explanation for not answering. I was worried sick!" Mama's face pops up when I FaceTime her.
"I know! I'm sorry mama I've been really busy exploring Italy. I'll send you pictures, It's so beautiful."
I hear her sigh over the phone. "Well at least you're having a good time."
"Is that Arya?" I hear in the background. I smile widely.
"Papa!"
"Hey kiddo, is Rome treating you well?" He comes into view and I nod.
"He is. It's incredible here, words can't describe it. I don't want to ever leave."
"Well you must at some point." Papa laughs and mama agrees. I frown but then grin at them.
"What are you doing right now?" Mama asks.
"Right now I'm waiting for Elijah to get breakfast."
"Elijah? Whose that?" Oops.
"Oh, he's here on the trip."
"It's not just you two?!" Papa's voice raises slightly and I wince.
"Well no, but I promise he's super nice! He's one of my friends."
"Mhm, well as long as you're being safe and careful." Papa gives me a pointed look.
"I am I promise."
"We won't keep you for long then, we love you and will see you soon." Mama blows me a kiss through the screen and I laugh at them.
"Love you guys too, see you." I hang up and then send them a few pictures of Italy. 2 seconds later I receive a FaceTime call from Cassidy.
Pressing accept, Cassidy's face appears on my screen. She's so pretty with her black hair falling over her shoulders, hazel eyes bright while she beams at me.
"I'm sorry but I couldn't wait, the suspense was killing me. You didn't even answer! You just sent pictures."
"You said and send pictures!" I repeat her words and she rolls her eyes playfully.

"Notice the and portion? I said update and!" We both laugh and I shake my head.
"Anyways yeah It's good, Italy is really a dream."
"Good, that's good." She wiggles her dark brows. "What about the boyfriend?"
"Rome's good too." I whisper, a blush coating my face.
"Why the hell are you blushing? I can tell you are even over the phone." She eyes my face for a second before her expression turns into a full blown grin.
"Holy shit! You did the dirty, didn't you!" My eyes widen because she practically yelled it. I lower the volume on my phone.
"Be quiet!"
"Admit it, you did!"
"Alright alright," I say with my heart pounding. "We did."
"When!?"
"Last night."
"Oh hell yes. You're deep in love now."
"I was always in deep." Which is true.
She opens her mouth to respond but then shuts it, her eyes going wide. I'm about to question her but then I feel a shadow loom over me. Squinting my eyes at the screen I realize someone else is in the camera.
Turning to face Elijah who is blankly staring at the phone, a bag in hand, I shift my eyes between Cassidy's figure and then Elijah's.
Raising one brow, I turn the phone around so she can see the two of us again.
"Elijah this is Cassidy. Cassidy this is Elijah. He's here on the trip with us."
She coughs and I know It's because no one said anything after my introduction.
"Um, hi Elijah." She waves a little and I move my eyes over to the man. He stares for a second longer before nodding and turning, walking to the exit of the hall.
"Sorry, he doesn't talk a lot. It took him a while to talk to me."
Her mouth is slightly parted before she shakes her head and gives me a smile.
"It's alright, are you at the hotel right now?"
"Yeah I was down here with Elijah to get breakfast but now he's walked off towards the elevators." I follow him as I talk, trying to catch up to his long strides.
"I see, well have fun for the time you have left in Italy! And with Rome of course." Cassidy's voice begins to turn seductive and I quickly end the call. Crazy girl.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
James was luckily alive when we got back to the room. Apparently Rome forced him to wake up. Poor James.
The remaining days in Italy were spent going out and exploring more. Elijah and James came with us when we decided to go on adventures. We went to a Christmas market where I got many souvenirs.
We also went to another iceskating rink since James was mad that Rome and I went without him. Elijah decided to sit that one out and I don't really blame him. James had no clue how to skate and kept falling. Then again I didn't know how either but luckily I never fell.
Now It's Sunday morning and I don't want to leave even though we've been here for over a week. Rome says the cars are ready at the front of the hotel and I refuse to leave the bed.
"We'll come back again some time sweetheart, but don't you want to go home?" Rome tries to persuade me and I huff.
"Promise we'll come back?" I ask him, pouting and he chuckles, pecking my lips.
"I promise, but now we need to go." I sigh and stand from the comfy bed, gathering my suitcase in hand. Thank god all the things I got from Italy fit inside my suitcase. Hopefully nothing breaks on the plane or I'll be very upset.
He watches me in amusement as I slowly walk to the door, but then I quickly take out my phone and take a few pictures of the room and then I run to the balcony to take a few more. Rome gives me a look of confusion when I come back and lift my suitcase up.
"What? It's the memories that count." I shrug, exiting the room and he shakes his head, following me in silence.
Arriving down in the lobby, Elijah and James are there waiting for us with their luggage. James is slouched in a chair so I walk over to him.
"You okay?" I eye him and he shakes his head, lifting his head to me.
"This is bullshit, we should stay another week." I can't disagree there.
I pat his shoulder. "Let's go." I say sadly and he sighs, dropping his head before standing.
Elijah rolls his eyes at the both of us. "You both look like you're about to die or some shit." He says and I clutch my chest dramatically.
"How fucking rude! What if I was?" James points his finger at him while Rome just looks unamused with his hands tucked in his pockets.
Rome raises a dark brow at me and gestures me to come over to him. I do so happily and wrap my arms around his waist.
"We'll come back soon baby, or we can go on a vacation somewhere else."
"Somewhere else? It was always Italy I wanted to go to." I frown, thinking.
"Now you can choose a new place." He winks, giving my head a kiss and then we walk to the lobby doors.
I'm going to miss it here but this will always be my favorite vacation. Even though I've never really gone on a vacation this one will stay on top.
Of course I snapped a few more pictures as Rome drove us to the airport.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For most of the flight home I slept in the bedroom located at the back of the plane. James slept on the same couch as last time while Elijah was in a chair and Rome was at one of the window seats.
Rome had said he had to make a lot of calls since he'd been ignoring them for the trip. Once I realized how busy he was I snuggled up in the bed and watched TV. However I ended up sleeping the whole time. I guess I really was exhausted.
I did wake up once to eat a few snacks and see what Rome was doing but then I passed out again.
"Arya," A voice called, their hand running through my hair. I already knew who it was and I smiled, stretching my limbs.
"We're landing soon, come on you need to get up." Rome says, lifting the covers off of me and I groan, opening my eyes.
Grabbing my hand, Rome lifts me to stand and leads me out of the room and to where he was sitting. I take a seat next to him and lean my head on his shoulder, watching him now type away on a laptop for a few seconds before closing it and putting it in his bag.
I glance over and see James is still sleeping on the couch. But then I laugh as Elijah shoves him and he jerks up.
Landing went quite smoothly, there were a few bumps and James screamed out once that we could die. Rome saw the horrified expression on my face and said something to James in Italian making him go completely silent. It must have been a threat of some sort.
"Ah It's good to be back." James says, tugging his suitcase along.
"Weren't you complaining that you didn't want to leave back in Italy?" Elijah questions, giving him an unimpressed look.
"That's in the past," He waves him off, sauntering towards the SUV and I try to cover my laugh while following. Rome was busy talking to the pilot.
Soon we're heading back to the house and I look out the window. Even though I wanted to stay in Italy I'm glad that long flight is over and we're home. I guess I feel the same way as James had.
Arriving back home, I attempt to help them carry the luggage but I get shooed away to the door.
Rome somehow unlocks the door with both our suitcases in hand, and the three of us are greeted by Grant whose on the other side.
"Ah they return! How was the trip?" He asks and James immediately starts talking. Rome comes up behind me and presses a swift kiss to the back of my head.
"You look tired baby, how about you go upstairs, hm?" He says and I immediately do so, taking my luggage this time before he can protest.
Getting to my room I decide to unpack tomorrow since I barely have any energy to do so. I grab a quick change of clothes and do my routine in the bathroom.
Rome is in his room once I walk in, in the middle of taking off his shirt and I inhale deeply at the sight of him.
Shaking my head, I get cozy under the sheets and Rome smirks at me knowingly, getting in beside me.
I go to place my phone on the table beside the bed but a text pops up on the screen.
Cassidy: Did you make it home yet?? It's been hours.
Me: I did, just a little bit ago actually.
Cassidy: Sweet.
A thought comes to mind and I curiously look up at Rome whose on his own phone. He senses my gaze because he tilts his head towards me.
"Can Cassidy come over tomorrow?" I question him and his face scrunches up like he's confused before recognition fills his eyes.
He raises his brows but nods, "Sure that's fine." Yay! I quickly text her that she can come over tomorrow since It's late and I'm exhausted.
"Do you think my parents can as well? I wanna tell them about the trip."
"Whatever you want, darling." I send a text to them as well before plugging in my phone and raising the covers to my shoulders, scooting closer to Rome who wraps his arm around me.
Cassidy hasn't been here before and neither have my parents. Hopefully everything goes well tomorrow.

Petrichor: Act One
Cody is adrift. Emily is alone. Sara is spiraling into darkness. Andrew is out of control. Chris is losing his mind. Grace makes the mistake of being friends with all of them. The friendship these six share will forever shape who they are. In the town of Darkwood, Washington they are forced into the harsh reality of the world catching up to them. When their involvement in their friend's suicide catches up to them, how will they juggle their guilt, issues, and crumbling friendships that fall before them? This is a redux of Petrichor. I was unsatisfied with how the story went. I rushed things and left things to happen off-screen a lot. So I'm rewriting it, this time dividing the acts into their separate books to allow the characters to properly develop. The story will mostly stay the same but I'll fix all the plot holes I found and change some character motivations here or there.
