《The Mafia Man's Girl》Chapter 1: Daily

Arya's POV -
My eyes peeled open, and then shut. Peeled open, then shut again. I groaned under the comfy covers and turned my head to the side, snuggling more into my pillow.
That lasted for about what seemed like 5 seconds before a blaring alarm invaded my eardrums. I almost screamed and tumbled off the bed, my eyes shooting open. I sighed heavily and reached over, pressing my phone screen frantically to turn the device off.
I sighed and sat up, my messy, curly brown hair flying everywhere. I tried to untangle my hair by brushing my hand through it but it was no use. Breathing out heavily, I swung my bare feet over my bed and placed them on the cool floor.
I sat there on my bed for a good minute before deciding to get up. I had school today after all. And it was Monday which is even worse. Strolling over to my closet, I picked out a sweatshirt and some leggings. It was rainy today, and cold. I grabbed my white converse and headed to the bathroom to fix my hair. Staring in the mirror I cringed slightly at the mess.
Grabbing my brush I tried to go through the knots which was quite difficult. I finally fixed it to where it looked decent and brushed my teeth. I don't wear makeup too often so I decided to not wear any today.
I grabbed my backpack from my room and headed downstairs. A sweet aroma of pancakes filled the air, and I licked my lips in anticipation. "Mama," I greeted, reaching the bar stools at the kitchen island. She turned to me from the stove, smiling slightly.
"Arya, good to know you're awake." She greeted before turning back to the stove to continue cooking. I watched her flip a giant pancake with ease.
"Did Papa go to work?" I questioned, swinging my legs back and forth on the chair.
"Yes, he won't be back until late."
I only nodded, watching as she grabbed two plates from the cabinets and filled them with multiple pancakes each. She passed one to me and poured syrup on top, then handed me a knife and fork.
"Thank you," I said softly, starting to cut through the pancakes. I lifted a forkful to my mouth and I almost passed out from the amazing taste.
A few minutes of silence went by as we ate. It wasn't necessarily uncomfortable, I mostly talk with mama about school.
And it was like she read my mind,
"Do you have any exams coming up?" She questioned.
"Not that I know of, but I'm sure there will be something."
"Well when there is, you better get on it. You know every grade counts."
Yes, I do know. She reminded me pretty much every day about my grades. Mama wants me to get into a top school such as Harvard or Yale, but I wasn't sure what I wanted...
"I will mama," I replied, finishing my plate and heading to the sink to wash it. I check the time. Oh no! I'll be late.
"I need to go! See you later!" I called, rushing to the door and padding my feet down the steps.

I began my journey to the school. It was about a 10 minute walk. We start at 8:00, and it was currently 7:50, so I will hopefully make it right on time to my English class.
The only bad thing was that it was raining. This didn't help my case at all.
In the span of two minutes my hair was beginning to become soaked as the rain increased in speed and power. I groaned, I should have grabbed an umbrella.
8 minutes later I make it to school and rush to my English class, knowing I look like I just got out of the ocean. I enter class and see my best friend Izzy in her seat already. Right as I get to my seat, the bell rings. I sigh in relief and turn to her only to see her staring at me already with a smirk.
"Don't!" I yell and she bursts out laughing, catching the attention of some of the other kids.
I feel my face heat up and I cover my face with my hands.
"I had to walk!" I exclaim which makes her chuckle.
"You could have texted me for a ride Arya."
"B-But I didn't want to bother you."
"You don't bother me girl, I'll always pick you up, you know that."
Deep down I did, I had been friends with Izzy for years, we became friends in 6th grade, and we're now in 12th.
"I know..." I mumbled, turning as my professor walked in.
"Good morning class, don't look too exhausted and let the rain affect your work ethic, because we have an essay coming up!"
Most of the kids groaned but I didn't say anything. Perhaps this could get my grade up. Mama had said I needed higher than a 90 which I currently have.
"What's it on?" A kid asked,
"You will be writing about one special thing in your life. It could be a person, a place, an object, anything. It has to be special."
I didn't have much going on in my life. Maybe I could write about Izzy.
"Sounds easy enough." Izzy says, and I sigh.
"You will have the next 2 months to work on it, and I expect at least 3 pages minimum. Put your heart into it."
Most kids groaned at the hearing of 3 pages. I didn't think it was too horrible.
"3 pages!" Izzy scoffs, "Why 3! Why not 1?"
I giggle quietly and shake my head, pulling out a piece of paper and a pencil from my bag.
Izzy looks at me in disbelief.
"What?" I ask.
"You're starting now? You have 2 months to work on it!"
I shrugged, "It's better to start now, that just means I have less and less to do as the due date gets closer."
She continues to stare at me like she can't believe those words are leaving my mouth.
"You're crazy Arya, you take school way too seriously."
I frown slightly, but say nothing. Perhaps I do take it to the top notch, but I need to do better. If I really want to get into a good school, my grades need to be perfect. At least that's what I'm told.

I write a small amount of notes on what I could possibly do my essay on before the bell rings for 2nd period.
"I'll see you at lunch girl." Izzy waves, heading in the opposite direction I need to be.
I turn and begin my journey to Math.
Math is one of my hardest subjects. If there's anything I'm bad at, It's math. I currently have an 87 which mama is on my butt about. I don't know what else to do. I've gotten tutoring, I've went in early for extra help, but I just cant grasp the content.
As I get to my class, I head to my normal seat in the back and stare out the window.
Millions of water droplets fall down, dripping onto the ground and every surface outside.
Today might be a good day to go to my favorite café after school.
Although It's a bit of a walk, I may need to borrow an umbrella from Izzy if she has one. Or I can ask her for a ride but I don't want to be a burden.
"Morning students, today..." My professor begins the lesson, and I cringe as I look at the board of what we'll be doing. I already know I'm going to be struggling in this subject the next few months.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lunch arrived pretty quickly, and I found Izzy at our normal table, eating a sandwich. I sat next to her and opened my bag.
"You know, Trevor came up to me before lunch." She says and I raise a brow.
"What did he say?" I question, tilting my head.
"Well, he didn't say anything..." She trails off, her cheeks becoming a small amount of pink.
My head becomes slightly dizzy. What did they talk about then? Did they just stare at each other the whole time?
"What did you guys do then?"
"We...you know." She said, gesturing with her hands.
When I still didn't get it, she facepalmed.
"We made out Arya, and did other stuff."
My mouth parted slightly and my eyes widened.
"What!?"
"Shh!" She says, glaring at me.
"B-But you guys barely know each other!" I exclaim.
She rolls her eyes, "That doesn't matter Arya, all that matters is that he's literally a god."
I didn't have any response. I didn't know how to respond. I've never even kissed a guy so I can't relate.
And it was like she read my mind, "It's okay Arya, you'll get there. And when you do, It'll be an amazing experience."
My eyebrows drew together. I don't know about that. I don't even talk to any boys.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lunch ended, and I found myself in the same remaining classes.
This was the daily routine every week, it was pretty boring, but it had to be done.
Now I'd head to the café, then go home and start my English essay. It was better to try and get it done sooner.
As the final bell rung, I rushed to Izzy's class to see if she has an umbrella. It was pouring out, I definitely couldn't walk without one.
"Izzy!" I called out, seeing her with Trevor near the lockers.
She turned to me, smiling and gesturing me over.
"Trevor, this is Arya, my best friend."
Trevor turned to me and I examined him. He has brown hair with brown eyes, tan skin, and a sculpted jaw. He was tall, maybe 6'1, towering over my small 5'3 frame. Izzy was 5'6, so at least she had some height.
He smirked down at me and I found myself growing slightly uneasy.
"Hi Arya, how are you?"
I swallowed thickly, "I'm fine, thank you."
I cleared my throat and turned to Izzy, "I'm going to head to the café, do you have an umbrella by any chance? I don't want to get soaked again."
"Oh shoot, I don't. But I can drive you, come on."
"Oh no...you don't have to-"
"It wasn't a question Arya, let's go." She denied, starting to walk away with Trevor, holding his hand.
I grumbled under my breath and reluctantly followed as they made the way to Izzy's car.
The drive was pretty much silent, Izzy and Trevor didn't even talk to one another. Soon we reached the café and I smiled seeing the small place come into view.
"Do you want me to bring you home?" Izzy asked as she pulled over. I definitely had to decline since she had already been too kind to drive me. So, I lied.
"No, that's okay. Mama should be able to get me."
She nodded and I got out of the car, "Thank you!" I called out before rushing to the café to get out of the pouring rain. Thunder and lightning had started to appear making me shutter.
I entered and was met with the amazing smell of sweets and treats. I hummed to myself as I reached the line, scanning the items. There were a few people ahead of me so I had some time to think.
I didn't know what kind of drink or treats I wanted, there were too many choices!
As I was looking at the menu, I heard the jingle of the door opening, but I didn't pay too much attention.
Suddenly frantic footsteps were heard behind me and my eyes widened as a man sprinted past me and towards the bathrooms. I caught a glimpse of his older looking face and dark brown hair.
I looked around only to see that no one was even paying attention, was I the only one who saw that?
Shrugging it off, I turned back to the menu, only to hear the door jingle again.
I had expected to maybe hear more frantic steps, but I only heard slow, calculating ones.
I swallowed thickly as I felt someone loom over me, maybe they were just waiting in line?
I heard the clearing of a throat, and I swallowed again before slowly turning around to face whoever this was.
And as I did, I felt the world stop and my head spin in circles.
Because in front of me, had to be the most gorgeous man I have ever laid eyes on.
And he was staring straight down at me.
