《His Shortcake》Epilogue

We were both quiet for a while after our parents left us alone. We were both too stunned to know what we should even say after they just gave us a property in Aspen without even blinking. Both of us are grateful but at the same time, it was too much for just a wedding gift.

"You two look like you've seen a ghost." Alec's teasing voice caught my attention.

"Alec, did you know about this?" I asked, raising the envelope to his line of sight. Without hesitation, he nodded his head. "I thought you guys agreed that there will be no extravagant gifts."

"Baby girl, I do hope you understand that both of you are practically their only children." He said calmly. "They could have given something much more expensive than that."

"I'm not an only child," I said, my voice raising a little.

"I meant, the only girl. Unica Hija." Alec said.

Dustyn took the envelope from me and put it inside his coat. "No use in fighting over it now. What's done is done."

"Yes. This is why you're my best friend." Alec said grinning.

"You are not off the hook," Dustyn warned him as he took my hand in his.

"Will I be if I told you I got Eros to sing for your first dance?" He said, grinning victoriously.

"Eros can sing?" I asked confused as I look at both of them. "He can sing?"

Alec and Dustyn both nodded. "Really well at that. I think you'll like it."

"Is this my wedding gift?" I asked Alec with a grateful smile on my lips. Somehow starting to feel relieved.

Alec chuckled and gave me a look of disbelief. "As if." He said laughing as he walked away, shrugging his shoulders at us.

I shake my head after him just as the host called us for the first dance as husband and wife. I watch in amusement as an annoyed-looking Eros made his way to the center of the floor, a microphone in his hand. The groomsmen started whistling and clapping madly, making the other guests stare at them in amusement and confusion.

"What is happening exactly?" I asked laughing a little as Dustyn whisks me away to the middle of the dancefloor.

Dustyn pulls me close to him, almost like we were hugging, and started swaying just as Eros had started singing the song that Dustyn and I picked, All of Me by John Legend. It was the one song that we both enjoyed when we were searching for one.

I listened to Eros sing with a smile on my face. "He is a good singer," I said, closing my eyes as I hum to the tune of the song.

Dustyn hummed in agreement. "I do love this song." He said as he pulled me even closer to his body as if that was possible.

I would be lying if I said that I'm completely relaxed and that I am enjoying the song while in his arms. My heart is beating twice as fast as it normally does. There's no explaining the feeling of being in his arms. He is my husband now, but I think this feeling will never go away.

I don't think I want it to go away.

Years from now, I still want to smile unconsciously when I see him. I want my heart to skip a beat with everything he does. I want to blush like crazy over every little thing. I want to be able to feel the same way I feel for him now, until the day we die.

I know married life is not the same as when you're only boyfriend and girlfriend. I know there will be difficulties I know problems will arise and I know that there's always going to be something that's not perfect. But that's life.

The only thing I wish for is that we pull through everything and that by the end of the day, we would still choose to be in love with one another. Because loving someone is a choice one has to always always make.

"I love you, shortcake. I can't tell you enough how glad I am that I have you in my arms right now, as my wife." Dustyn said as Eros is about to sing the last line of the song.

Tears welled up in my eyes as I feel his emotion seeping through his words. I couldn't but be glad that Alec wanted to marry me off to his best friend. The one person who knew me better than my brother. I'm glad it ended this way too. So glad that words are not enough to express it.

"I love you, Dy."

Dustyn and I pulled away from each other and faced Eros, as he finishes the song. He looks flustered but makes his way to us with a smile. "I hope you liked my wedding present."

I laugh, shaking my head. "You can say that Alec forced you."

Knowing my brother, he probably did. Although, Alec does have a way with words that makes you think you are doing it on your own accord. That's his natural talent.

Eros shakes his head. "He did force me, but it was only because Rory did not approve of the one the host brought with him."

My jaw dropped a little at that. "Did you just fire someone on the spot? The poor guy."

"No. I'm not that mean." He said, his eyes widening at my accusations. "I paid him, okay?"

"What? Now we owe you?" I asked.

"Dustyn, talk to your wife." He said before leaving the both of us, as the host announces that it was time for the father and daughter dance.

"Enjoy. Let me worry." Dustyn said as he kisses me on top of my head and gives my hand to Dad who was waiting.

Dad danced with me for half of the song he and Alec picked which was Frank Sinatra's The Way You Look Tonight. Then Alec took me for the other half for his part of the dance. I was grateful that Dad agreed to my wish. I want Alec to know just how important he is to me. I want to reassure him no matter how much he said that he has gotten over the fact that he's adopted.

"Thank you for this, baby girl." He said to me. "I' m glad you're my sister."

"Something that will never change," I tell him as I hugged him before he escorted me back to my seat as Dustyn took Jaclyn up for a dance. I watched as both of them danced, and somehow finished it without Dustyn going too red. I don't know what Jaclyn was talking about, but it can be anything under the sun.

After the dance, we did the traditional tossing of my beautiful bouquet to which Aurora got the flower. Alec was excited about that until the garter was tossed by Dustyn and the man who came with Rory as her date tonight was the one who got the garter.

After the proper program, Artemis being Artemis started the beginning of a very long night of partying...

Third person's POV

Tamara would be lying to herself if she said she didn't still feel the exhilarating feeling she has been feeling since the wedding, They have been together in this house, in this place for almost a week. Every day is like a fairy tale for her, a dream come true.

She couldn't help but smile as the memory of their first night together came to mind. She was too awkward and was dropping everything all over the place. She was so nervous at the thought of consuming the marriage even when Dustyn repeatedly told her that he wasn't going to force her into anything. She wanted to give herself to Dustyn.

"What are you smiling about?" Dustyn asked his wife as he watched her face. He loves staring at her whenever he finds her staring at the sea. The feeling of content easily spread through his body as he tightened his arms around his wife.

"I just remembered the first night we spent together," Mara replied, looking up at her husband. Her heartbeat raced as she looked at her handsome husband, smiling fondly down at her.

"The best night of my life," Dustyn said without a second thought. For him, it really was. He remembered everything that happened that night as if it was only last night. Memories flooded his head.

For him, it was more than he could ask for. For Mara to give herself to him despite her nervousness. Despite knowing that he had experienced such a thing with other people, she never did once hold it over his head. She never tried to make him feel guilty for his past experiences. She was understanding all through it and even then, someone was trying to put a rift between them.

Mara felt shivers travel through her skin. It was just like all the articles she had read say. It was painful but it also felt good. It was a mixture of those two feelings but for me, it felt good for most of the part. Or maybe that was because it was with him. He was gentle and kept reassuring her that she was doing fine.

But even after doing it, Mara still goes red whenever Dustyn praises her. Dustyn thinks it's cute and innocent whenever it happens.

"I love you, shortcake," Dustyn says.

Mara couldn't help but smile at her sweet husband. "I love you too Dy."

It didn't take long before the sun was up in the sky. Mara closes her eyes as she enjoys the feeling of the sun on her skin. She took a few deep breathes before turning around to face Dustyn, who is looking at her with a smile on his face.

"I need to hide you when we got back," Tamara said out loud without meaning to. She immediately covers her mouth as her eyes widen. "I didn't just say that."

Dustyn laughs, looking amused at his wife. "Don't lock me up, shortcake," He said teasingly as her face turns red.

She shakes her head and runs inside the room. "I DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING."

Dustyn could only laugh after his wife, knowing that her blushing would never go away. That would probably be one of the things he would be looking forward to seeing for the rest of their lives.

For the week that they have been in Aspen, they settled into a routine.

Dustyn has made it a habit to cook breakfast and make coffee in the morning since Mara loves taking her shower after watching the sunrise on their balcony. Then, they would leave at ten to explore what is left of the city or just stay in and relax.

Dustyn loved staying in with Mara because to him it means spending more time with her. The more time he spends with her the more he falls in love with her. He wants to spend as much time as he could with her since he knows once they're back to New York, they would probably both be sucked back into their busy life.

Dustyn knows that Mara still has a lot of late nights to go through to finish her degrees in college. He knows that she'll be too busy to cook, or even wake up early to send him off to work. But none of that matters to him. Because he knows that if it was him, Mara would never ask him for anything that could interfere with his career.

Mara leans against the archway of the kitchen as she watches a half-naked Dustyn cook. Her husband's back is ripped and beautiful. It was the one thing she looks up to waking early. Just so she can see him cooking breakfast. It makes her happy to see how domestic he looked despite being one of the top CEOs of the country.

Life might not always be perfect, but at least for now, they can enjoy what they have.
