《The Sword. The Shield. The Diamond. (Steven Universe SI)》Chapter 4

So, low-key, I'm kind of freaking out. This thing is fucking huge! Like, seriously big, and honestly it's scary. No, let me rephrase that, fuck scary, this thing is absolutely terrifying. Of course, I made sure to keep my composure while Amethyst dragged me to the rest of the Gems, but that trust me when I say I am only calm outwardly.
Though since I wasn't forced to be carried here, I never dropped my Bits, and eating has helped with my nerves a lot. I wonder if this makes me a stress eater. Well, even if it does, there's nothing I can really do about it right now. It's kind of unhealthy but I'm going to be risking my life fighting super powered aliens so I'm sure it can slide.
When we finally spot both Pearl and Garnet, they are looking through a telescope for a closer look of the giant eyeball. Why? I have no idea. It's a giant eyeball. There is little need to get a closer look at it if you ask me, but what do I know, I'm still new to all of this alien nonsense.
"This is bad." Garnet monotones out blandly. Though she doesn't look all that worried. And it makes sense now that I think about it. With her future sight, she must know that while it's a threat now, it won't be later. I know that she's the leader right now and all, but damn she's broken. Don't nerf though, definitely going to need that brokenness for later.
"Look at the size of it! I had no idea these things could get so big!" Pearl says in astonishment. What are these things even for again? Are they to spy on Earth, is that why it's an eyeball, because otherwise it makes no sense. I know they say in the show it'll crush them and all of Beach City, but if that's the case and it really is just a giant weapon, what's the point of making it be an eye? Aesthetics?

"Garnet! Pearl!" Amethyst calls out to get their attention. Everything was going to script so far. The lines were executed perfectly, the dialogue hasn't changed at all, and everyone is in their positions. So when the next sentence that came out of Pearls mouth wasn't a snide remark against the purplette, I was quite shocked.
"Steven!? You brought Steven here!? What were you thinking?! This isn't something he can handle right now, he's just started his training! Get him to safety quickly!" Pearl yells out in fear. It causes me to stop in my tracks and just stare for a couple of seconds before I could get my bearings and reply.
"We've talked about this, now that I have my powers I'm officially a Crystal Gem too. I don't get to run away and hide when things get tough. Don't worry about me, I'll be fine, now can someone please tell me what the hell that thing in my sky is? Because I'm around 90% sure it wasn't there yesterday. "
"I'm sorry...it's a Red Eye. They're used to monitor whatever it has its eye on and scout for gems. If it's here then we're most likely the target but it will surely crush us before then." she explains for me. Which is really useful because I didn't know that. Now the question is did I just forget its purpose or is that non-canon knowledge? I almost sigh at the regret of not having the Gamer ability while I'm here. A few points into Intelligence and I'm sure this wouldn't be a problem.
"Alright, well the answer seems simple enough. Lets just destroy the thing before it makes it here. Problem solved right?" I ask before Garnet replies with an affirmative and begins chucking the purple menace and the giant floating eyeball. From the sound that was made when she connected, it didn't seem very effective.

"No, problem not solved. Red Eyes are extremely durable. They are just made that way, and I don't know if we have anything that could actually help here." she sighs out with a worried look on her face. Amethyst swims back to shore without much trouble to try again but I stop her before she can.
"C'mon guys, you know what it is, you how hard it is, and you know it's breakable. You had to have faced down one of these things before. What did you do then? How'd you stop it?" I ask. The script isn't so dependable right now after Pearl's outburst. It'd be best if I relied on myself for the moment.
"Well this wouldn't even be a problem if Rose was still here. She has this big ole Rose Cannon that she used to blow these things up easy." she explains before Garnet picks up her and throws her at the eye again. It made the same thud before she slid off and fell into the water with a splash.
"Okay, good to know, mom had cannons. Well we'll just go grab one, set it up, fire it at the eyeball, and blow it up. Boom. Problem solved. Again." I say with a nod, sure of my answer this time. Yeah I know there's still technically a problem, but it's just so cute to see her freak out like this.
"No, problem not solved. Again. Firstly, they were called Light Cannons, not Rose Cannons. Secondly, we don't have any more. Or at least, we don't know where one is. We assume it's in her gem or room, but without her actually being here and you not knowing how to use either, there's nothing we can do."
"Well what about my dad? They all might be in the room or gem, but we don't really know that for sure right? Maybe he knows where a spare one is and we could still save the day." I point out with a smug smile. This will be my first time meeting Greg since I've gotten here. I'm kind of excited, he is my dad after all. And he always seemed like such a chill and understanding dude.
"Greg is...nice Steven, but I doubt Rose would entrust someone like him with such a powerful weapon." Pearl says as nicely as she can. Or well, she tries to say it nicely at all but anyone could tell that the Gem really didn't have a great amount of faith in him. Which is fine, but he's still my dad. She's just salty.
"Your dad is kind of a mess, Steven." she drolls out with a hand on my shoulder. Pearl tries to reprimand her but it doesn't really work out well. "Hey, I'm just sayin, even if she did leave it with him, he probably broke it...or lost it….or dropped it in the ocean by now." See, this is why I like her, she speaks her mind. I could've dealt without the "True~" from Garnet though.
"Nahhh, you guys are just hating on my pop's style. Give him a chance. Watch, I'll go get him, and I'll have the cannon in no time." I state with the full confidence of a man who has seen the future and knows exactly where the cannon is. What? It isn't cheating, it's their fault for cramping on my dad's flow.
I start to run towards the Car Wash I saw on the way to the fry stand when I hear another THUMP behind me.
...I'm sure she's fine.

Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)

Young bloods (WIP)
" So-called leaders prostituted their people to wars and abuse. They destroyed families, culture and economies; their hands dyed red by the blood of the children, the families trampled by their lecherous motivations and diabolical war machines. Trained and taught by the Revenants or rather “young bloods” from their war-torn world, we were going to build a better world for us and for the later generations, a world when there shall be no more wars waged over territory, a world where boys and girls can frolic around for all of eternity." -Sasha, Terutan regular army cadet. ‘History is determined by the victors, and here we stand transcended over those who abused us. History is filled with liars, broken promises of eternal prosperity and peace. The more things change, the more things stayed the same: ideology change, location shift but power will always find a place to rest its head. We fought and bled for the adults, the grown men and women who preached of us being their future, preached us of the freedom from tyranny and slavery; no wonder why we hated them so. History is determined by the victor, and there shall be no victors when we’re done.’- Yulia Bronskavya, Red Army Homeguard. As the first modern war came to a close in November 1st, 1918, rows of passed juveniles laid the battlefields. In the name of some royal fat cats or some shitty national leader, cruelty and crimes were committed against the weak and the vulnerable younglings; in other words, adults were assholes. Their deaths marked a new beginning, a new beginning in a strange and magical land that was and had only been dreamt of in stories and folk tale, they had arrived to Terruta. The first ones regarded themselves as Revenants, heroes who had been able to be reborn in this world and began their adventure to explore this strange foreign land. However, “every coin have two sides, like everyone have two faces”. 'As they left their former life behind, the young soldiers and operators found themselves being deceived, abused and taken advantaged off again by the elders of this world. Many were abused, tortured, raped and sold to slavery, Revenants were quite sought after due to their timeless charm, strength, intellect and immortality, they were unable to be killed no matter what; many were bought and used as pets, slaves and entertainers for their masters’ entertainment. Fed up with the similar treatment and abuse by the adults of this world, many revolted and founded ICC, International Cooperative Coalition.'-Sasaki Kotegawa, JSDF Private.
