《Bamboozling the Heavens: A LitRPG Dark Fantasy Saga》Chapter 3: Soul Stealing

"Get over here!" A vicious gleam flashed through Dean's eyes and he did something he would've never done when he was alive.
The white orb that was lazily passing by his face was brutally snatched from the air and firmly held in Dean's hand.
He had no explanation for what he'd done.
All he knew was that this white orb was the only thing around here that possessed freedom of movement and he wanted what it had.
Looking down, Dean saw that the white orb was not completely solid, but was instead composed of countless tiny white particles.
In the middle of these particles rested a nearly translucent shape that constantly morphed between forms. It switched between spheres, tetrahedrons, and other shapes that were impossible to decipher.
'So pretty', Despite his abnormal state of mind, Dean was still awestruck by the inherent beauty of the translucent shapes. His earlier bout of viciousness faded away as he just stared in awe at the orb's form.
"What am I doing? This isn't me, I should relea-"
Dean's hands were suddenly inflicted with an eerie sense of coolness.
Looking down at his right hand, Dean saw that the white particles within the translucent sphere began to flow into him and he felt that he'd gained something... new.
Before he could examine this sensation any further, Dean's hand began to feel as if it'd fallen asleep as the translucent shape began to erratically vibrate before shooting towards him.
It was still morphing between forms when it melted into his being and filled him with a sense of wholeness he didn't know he was missing.
It was like the first sip of water after being outside all day on a scorching summer day.
Just one wasn't enough.
Almost instinctually he contorted his torso and reached behind him to grab the only other white orb with his reach. His hand passed smoothly through the chest of the hologram-like figure that was behind him in line and latched onto the white orb within its chest.

All of his moral misgivings about what he was doing seemed distant and inconsequential at this moment.
Once again, the outer layer of white particles flew into him and he once again gained the feeling of acquiring something new.
Similarly, the translucent center shape mirrored the actions of its predecessor and began to vibrate before melding into his chest.
The overwhelming sense of wholeness suffused his entire being once again, reinstilling him with the instinctual urge to search for more.
Unfortunately, there were no other figures within his reach. The nearest figures behind and in front of him were nearly three meters away.
No matter how he reached and contorted his body, there was no way that he could get to either of them unless he stepped towards them.
'I need to move', This thought thundered throughout his mind and compelled him into action.
Until now, the fact that his feet were rendered immobile never seemed like an issue. It was just one of those things that he'd come to accept as his new reality.
He couldn't move and Dean figured that's the way it was and would always be in this strange place.
However, the infusion of those two orbs seemed to liberate him from this mental weakness and removed whatever force was keeping his feet immobile.
Wriggling his toes to prove his point, he cast his gaze towards the figure in front of him. Slowly lifting his right foot, Dean did something that the countless other figures around him were unable to do.
He took a step.
**********************************
Unbeknownst to Dean, a wispy humanoid figure was watching him from the very moment that he made contact with the first white orb. He stood mere feet away from him, but Dean seemed completely unaware of his existence.
The only distinguishing features it possessed were the tendrils of black wisps that constantly flickered around its figure and two orbs that seemed to function as its eyes. They slowly churned counterclockwise as if they were tiny whirlpools.
"The Master will be pleased! Another soul has qualified to embark upon The Path".
