There’s a saying, the biggest ambition of man is to get a good life. Humans cannot live without money and power within their society. Every man must fulfill his desires and complete them before the end of his life.

And that was the desire of the man sitting on his chair, at his office, checking the documents of the company’s finances.

In his appearance, the man wore formal attire from his head to his feet. He looked decent and mature. He had an intimidating aura, and every single one of the employees always greeted him and showed respect by lowering their heads whenever they saw him. He had a normal face and could attract at least an average woman.

To the employees’ knowledge, he was known for his magnificent style in handling people and had saved the company in multiple times of crisis. He had qualities of strictness, loyalty, and diligence; general qualities of an excellent person.

Because he believed everything was war in the business world, he conducted it like an art during times of sales.

He had been promoted twice in the company as a reward for his great efforts of service. Yet he was still not satisfied with his achievements from the year.

The truth behind the man’s smile, however, was that he had been single for a very long time. There was a reason behind his tragic period of loneliness. Since his last year in high school, he had tried to confess to his love to his crush before their graduation day. However, she rejected him and told him she would prefer her crush since first year, a gangster, to be her boyfriend instead dating someone like him. He graduated high school humiliated, full of suffering and regret.

In his second year of college, he recovered and wanted to find another ‘one’. His new interest was his classmate, Sakura, the top student in his class. Sakura was friendly and kind during their small conversations. The young boy couldn’t think of anything else while preparing for his confession. It was almost two years since they’d known each other and they’d become best friends.

He was sure he could get her approval to become his girlfriend, and he confidently decided to take action.

Both of them met each other in their meeting spot located under the cherry blossom tree.

“Umm, Sakura...” The young man fidgeted in place slightly. “Uh, since we have known each other and been friends since first year, I would like to say something to you.” He blushed as he said it, internally boosting his confidence.

“...”

“The thing is… is… I love you. Would you like to go out with me?” he said, while lowering his head towards her.

Sakura quietly watched him, filled with guilt.

“Umm, I’m sorry. I can’t,” she said sadly. “Can we just become friends?”

The word “friends” wandered through the young man’s mind repeatedly.

“Y-Y-Yes…” he said, but tears were starting to run from his eyes.

On that day, he promised to himself that he was never going to confess to love again, and he would focus on his career instead.

And now as the result of his success, he had been promoted to financial analyst and manager of a company.

After he reached his thirtieth birthday, he eventually decided he would find his first girlfriend. It took several years of effort, using different dating websites, but he met the girl of his dreams.

After all the years, he managed to graduate from loneliness to a relationship when the beautiful girl accepted his confession two months ago.

Chiba Train Station

In the middle of the night, the clouds covered the moon and heavy rain fell in the city. The man did not manage to get in time to the train, and his umbrella was soaked in water. Because of his excitement to see his girlfriend, he desperately wanted to get on the train and decided to try to force open the door. The conductor took issue with his pushing and reached out to stop him.

As the conductor tried to pull him away from the doors, he noticed his girlfriend out of the corner of his eye. He was happy to see her on the train and tried to call out to her. But to his surprise, she was kissing someone else.

“Why…?” he said, feeling angry at his now-former girlfriend.

“Sir, please calm down.”

“I’m okay now. You may release me.”

“But..,” the conductor said.

“I said release me...” The man looked into the conductor’s eyes seriously.

The furious stare full of bloodlust startled the conductor and he released the man immediately. The conductor apologized by lowering his head and quickly left him alone.

His Apartment

He got home late that day. Due to the shocking revelation of his girlfriend having an affair, he felt remorseful for choosing her. But he needed to know the truth, so he decided to observe her for now and find out the reason why she would do something like that. Although it was illegal, he wanted to confirm it by himself.

He went to her place after deciding. It took him almost an hour to get there.

The man took a deep breath and readied himself for the outcome. When his hands were an inch away from the doorknob, it suddenly opened up. A girl with long, messy black hair pulled back in a ponytail wearing Looney Tune patterned pajamas appeared in the doorframe. The boy noticed her cleavage could be seen slightly.

The girl adjusted her glasses, then recognized him and gave him a hug.

“What are you doing here, babe?” she asked.

“Can I talk with you about something?”

The mood of the man changed from anger to normal behavior when he saw his girlfriend.

“Oooh, you’re so straightforward. Moving here to surprise me and now you want to talk with me privately. Fufu~, you’re so aggressive, babe. Come inside then.”

The man patted her shoulder and said, “No need. This will not take too long, I just want to confirm something.”

“Ooh sure. What is it?”

“We’ve been couples for almost two months, babe… Do you love me?”

“What’s gotten to you? Of course. I really, really love you.” She suddenly kissed him on his cheek. “See?”

“... I... I see. Well, there is something I really really want to confirm… but I just don’t have any confidence to ask about this,” he said. The man felt too hesitant to continue.

She embraced him and looked him in the eyes, seriously at first, but then she gave him a wink. “If there is something wrong, you can tell me. After all, I’m your number one girlfriend. So what is it?”

The financial analyst had lost his focus and could not bring up the topic he wanted to. The cute face of his lovable girlfriend made him rethink his words entirely. But he had come this far and he had to know the truth.

“Earlier during the rainy hour… inside the train station. I saw you in the …”

Suddenly their conversation stopped when his phone rang.

“You should check that first before you keep going. I’ll go in the kitchen to get some drinks. Wait for a second okay?” She blew him a kiss before moving back inside her house.

He was saved for a moment. He took a breath and pulled out his cellphone.

“Hello, this is-”

“Sir, you’ve got a big problem!”

“Huh? What’s wrong? Did something happen again?” the analyst asked.

“Sir, you need to get out of your place right now! I accidentally eavesdropped on a conversation with the president and the other company managers. He is accusing you of espionage, and they want to eliminate the threat in the company… They’ve hired an assassin to kill you.”

“What!?”

The analyst couldn’t believe what he was hearing. He assumed the president envied his achievements and continuous excellent awards that made him do this crime. But what the president really wanted was to eliminate the person who could snatch his position.

“Okay. I want you to call the police station to my apartment and my girlfriend’s house. I’ll send you the address, but be quiet for now. Thank you again. Be careful.”

“Yes sir. You too.”

The phone call ended. He ran inside the house and searched for his girlfriend.

“Honey! We’ve got to get out of here.”

“Yes?”

His girlfriend appeared in a doorway. Her left hand was hidden behind her back.

“Honey, the company president hired someone to kill me. I think he will be in my house so we have a little time to bail out.”

“Babe, that’s too bad. Why don’t we call the police, then?”

She slowly walked four steps towards him.

“Honey... yeah I already did that. Maybe we should call my assistant right away and then get a car to carry us.”

He took out his cellphone and dialed the number of the police station. Suddenly, his girlfriend sliced his hand, making a shallow cut with the knife in her left hand. He lost his grip on the cell phone and looked at her in shock.

“What have you done!?”

He managed to get away from her just in time to prevent his hand from being cut off.

“Fufu~, for the time being, I enjoyed sharing our goals and dreams. I wanted to continue our relationship, however now you know the objective of my client then I have no choice but to do it right now.”

“Honey, what are you talking about? I don’t understand.”

“Hahahaha, you fool, you virgin motherfucking moron. You still don’t get it. I’m the one who was hired to kill you! The assassin who was tasked to kill you. I’ve been waiting for this day for a long time. Two months listening to your grumbling and all those worthless dates.”

“No”

The despair and sorrow burst out over his mind and body. The girl of his dreams, the one he loved so much, was the person who had been sent to end his life. He closed his eyes and recalled every single happy moment they shared, from the first day he met her to their last date.

A tear appeared in his eye. “This is absurd. I thought I had my goals and ambition achieved and now I’m being betrayed by my expectations.”

“Hahahaha, idiot. Sorry, but before the police come, I need to end your life right now.”

She moved too fast for him to see and stabbed his left shoulder. His blood spread out across his shirt. But she was looking him in the eye, confused.

His girlfriend continued to attack him, but he was too fast for her. He could see where she would point her knife. He realized she was not aiming for his vital parts and wanted to paralyze him.

“Honey, please stop joking around!”

“Hahahahaha. Die!”

He somehow managed to dodge her attack. Only a piece of his sleeve was sliced off and fell away from him. He used a nearby vase as his weapon and he threw it at her, but she cut it into parts before it reached her.

He used everything he could find, such as books, ballpoint pens, and even picture frames to throw at her. She managed to slice everything or dodge, and he was terrified as she moved step by step towards him. He tried to run to the exit, but she stopped him by shooting him with a pistol. He took cover by kicking over the table in front of him.

“You can’t escape, babe. You need to die here once in for all. Hahahaha,” she laughed as she closed the door.

He had no choice but to run to the second floor. When her gun ran out of ammunition, he took the opportunity to get to the stairs. She immediately reloaded and tried to shoot him as he ran, but he used a Webster dictionary as a bulletproof shield, and he managed to get up the stairs in time.

“Hoho~, you survive, as expected to a financial analyst, using a book to cover himself. Hilarious! Hahahaha, you’re my first victim who manage to survive,” she said and followed him up the stairs.

She started opening the doors one by one, searching for his whereabouts in the small apartment. She left the doors open as her sign that they were clear.

“Twinkle twinkle little star, where are you my little star? Yoo whooo…. C’mon, c’mon, c’mon, don’t be shy. Show yourself~”

Only one room was closed- her room. She tucked her gun into her waistband and pulled out her knife again. She smirked and tasted her knife like a lollipop with her tongue.

“Oh my, oh my, oh my. You’re really a pervert, babe. Choosing my room as your hiding place. Babe, you’re a perverted man, aren’t you?” she said as she kicked open the door.

“Peek a boo-”

A powerful punch suddenly stunned her. She fell down, covering her bleeding broken nose.

“Now’s my chance,” the man said.

He ran towards the exit and looked around for someone to help him. There was a police officer nearby and the analyst called out to him. The policeman heard him, and started walking towards him, but he was suddenly shot in the head. The analyst was shocked and searched for the culprit. Behind him, his girlfriend was pointing her gun towards him, holding her bloody nose.

“No one escapes from me! You’re gonna pay for what you did to me!” she screamed while shooting at him repeatedly.

He somehow managed to cover himself again the gunshots using the body of the policeman. There had to be a way for him to escape. He heard an upcoming train nearby and immediately thought of what he should do.

The man ran towards the crossing where the train was coming. As he approached the place, his right leg was struck by a lucky shot, but he held his bleeding leg until he got to the crossing.

“Hah… hah… hah… I made it,” he said and fell to the ground.

His girlfriend finally caught up to him and pointed her gun at his head.

“Well then, it seems your time is up, babe.”

“Hah… hah.. Hah… yeah. You hit me badly though.”

“Any last words?”

“Who was the man you kissed earlier in the train station?”

“Oooh, he is my real boyfriend. He is so manly than you,” she said proudly and put her right hand over her chest.

“So I’m just a fake one, huh... you prefer him right? What happens if you manage to kill me then?”

“Your president will pay me 300 million yen as payment for your death (1 $ = 100 Yen), in addition to 100,000 Yen for information about your plans to defeat your foes. He told me the other companies merged together just to defeat you. But in order for all of the opposing companies to have a peaceful negotiation, they demanded your life as a payment of loyalty. Some of the employees wanted to see your grave as well. They really hate you so much.”

“Aaah I see,” he replied, while staring the stars in the sky.

“Hahahaha, and also because you’re a fool. You really think the world revolves around someone special like you? Is that what you want to say? I don’t give a crap tonight. So please die now, I need to clean up the mess you made in my house.”

“I’ll see you then, bitch!” he yelled, and kicked her towards the oncoming train.

“Kyaaaaaa!”

She let out a last yell of anger and pain as she was smashed into pieces.

Meanwhile, somewhere in an unknown dimension, another girl was watching the scene. She had two horns and long scarlet hair tied up in a princess-style ponytail. But she wore a demon gown that opposed her own angelic nature. She was shocked by the girlfriend’s confession and felt pity for the man’s condition, so she decided to take action.

“Oh my gosh, she died like that? Fufu~ interesting man. I want someone to treat me like that. Hmm, I guess he will make the other world better if I transfer him in there,” she said, and maximized her viewing screen.”Oh my, oh my, I think I’m in love with him. He has a good face though... I wonder why he is still single. Fufu~ I guess let’s try then.”

She cast a spell on the man with the single snap of a finger.

Suddenly the man’s heart began pounding fast. He gripped his chest quickly as he collapsed.

“What’s happening to me?” he asked to himself.

He tried to get up, but his body didn’t follow what he wanted so he gripped the wall near him for support to stand up. The man immediately lost consciousness and collapsed. When he awoke, he somehow heard an unfamiliar voice.

The man opened his eyes slightly. A young girl with long scarlet hair and a gothic gown was holding his head in her lap.

“What’s happening to you? Are you alright?” she asked while looking down at him.

He slowly closed his eyes again, but she slapped his face three times to wake him up. His consciousness came back. He realized he had collapsed suddenly when his heart started to malfunction. The scarlet haired girl seemed worried about him, and he weakly reached up and touched her face to calm her down.

“Oh my, I’m sorry to make you worry. I think I’ve just collapsed because of stress.”

“Mister, you should rest for a little bit.”

“Haha, I suppose so too. By the way, why is a little girl like you walking alone at night? Where are your parents?”

“Hmmm…, I have no parents or relatives, but I have many enemies up there,” she said while her little hand pointed to the heavens.

“Oh, so you’re an orphan huh? Here, take this card then,” he said, offering her his wallet.

“What is this, mister?” the little girl asked while looking through the contents.

“I just hope you’ll have a good life from my insurance... haha.”

“Stupi- I mean... How can I use this in my place though? But since it’s an offering from you, I’ll accept it, I suppose. Should I try to cry then to be more precise?”

Tears flowed all over her face. But he somehow felt the little girl was faking it and she looked happy as he lay suffering. He didn’t understand why she kept her foxy appearance.

“So this is it. I wished to be with my girlfriend and managed the company until the end of my life. However-”

The time stopped after he died. His soul came out from his body and flew into a bright light. As he got closer, he noticed there were several others like him flying in the same direction.

“Oh my, where are you going? You’re not allowed to go to heaven,” the scarlet-haired girl said as she snapped her fingers.

When he arrived in the place, he stopped suddenly. A black hole appeared to his left and slowly began absorbing him. He noticed he was the only one being dragged into the hole. He tried to run but it was too late. The man tried to cling to a nearby pole to save himself, but his strength was not enough to keep him in place and he was quickly swallowed up by the black hole.

Midnight, Unfamiliar Room

July 5, 1926 C.E

As he woke up from his slumber, he found himself in an unknown place yet he felt comfortable in his surroundings. The only thing he could see was an unfamiliar ceiling. After a few seconds of conclusion, he finally realized he was in the body of a newborn baby. He could still move his body, but he was not strong enough to stand on two feet.

He thought his current situation was just a dream. It had been a long nightmare that he would never forget for the rest of his life- the betrayal of his so-called friends, and his former girlfriend, hired by his company and enemies to kill him. He had thought she was just a lovable girl but deep inside under her mask, she was a foxy, psychotic, and insane serial killer. He took a deep breath and decided to try and forget everything. He closed his eyes like a normal baby during its first night in the world.
