《Chaos Realm; A VRMMO Tale》7. Back to Dorm

"You look a lot better now. Good. I need someone to deliver a package to Solone Town. Think you will be perfect for the job. There is a very high chance you could get attacked so be prepared." The woman who introduced herself as Jolene took out a well-packed box and handed it over to Gene. "There is no need to rush. Make sure you reach there in two days." Saying so she threw her out again but a lot more politely.
Quest: HandleBar's Errand
Parcel Delivery at Solone
Deliver the parcel to Miss Beckett at Solone Town. Wewick's competitors might try to sabotage the parcel. Use extreme caution.
Reward: 1 gold coin, 100 experience, Affinity with Jolene.
Failure: Bad reputation at HandleBar, lower quest issue rates.
It would be great to get it done immediately but Gene was almost out of time. So before she quit, Gene went to the store to purchase another stack of healing potions to be on the safe side. She wanted to recruit a healer at first but cast aside the idea considering she had no means to protect the healer.
Time Limit Reached. You will be forced to log out in 30 seconds. Please find a safe spot.
Gene sat at the corner of a closed store and started to reminisce about her first experiences in the chaos realm while the countdown ticked in front of her eyes.
Gene slowly opened her eyes back to reality. She couldn't feel her legs for a few seconds. Slowly she regained her ability to move. She took off the headband and kept it by the nightside stand. Gene felt a lot calm, her muscles relaxed.
"THAT WAS AWESOME." She finally let out a shout looking at the mirror. It was almost evening and she had nothing better to do for the rest of the day. She had no more plans but to wait and pass time so she could play the game tomorrow.

After a good warm shower, Gene started packing her stuff. Even though education wasn't important, it was still compulsory to go to school. This was to help the younger generation become social and cooperative. She had taken a short leave for the birthday week and stood at her house. Her parents were both visiting their parents and wouldn't be back for a few more days. The only person still left at home was her older brother and his fiance.
"Mom, I'm leaving for the dorms," Gene called her mom to let them know.
"Do you have to? I saw you were busy playing and we didn't want to wake you up. We will be back in two days."
"Well, it is lonely here and the other two are becoming a bit annoying. I'll visit again next Sunday. Bye."
"Make sure you eat right and exercise." Before Gene cut the call, she heard her mom scream through the phone.
She didn't want to leave the house but the changes had completely ruined her plans. She had a well thought out plan on how to play but now she was in urgent need to form a new plan. She had to do some digging and figure out the best ways to level. House was great to stay and play undisturbed but the dorm was better for planning. She had most of her journals and records back at the dorm.
By the time she got a taxi and reached the dorm, it was already night. After the regular food, some of her classmates who remembered her birthday wished her and started nagging her for details of the game. The ones who hadn't yet turned sixteen listened in with extreme patience to every word uttered.
"So you reached level 12 by just completing errand quests?" The girls were all chattering about the game. "I had to kill countless goblins just to reach level 10. At least once I left the town, our party could find more amazing creatures to kill. The starting was boring."

"Same with me. Those quests are good stories but they barely give any experience."
"You know only through quests can we unlock newer content right?" Gene said. She could tell their disappointment.
"Yea, but that's too much work. To get that kind of quest is entirely based on luck. Even Bunich had to work for a few months to find the taming features. I say let them find the features. The game is still about levelling up and reaching the highest."
"If you truly want to avoid killing mobs, then the professional jobs also give good experience at lower levels. I'm pretty sure you will get stuck at some point."
"I was planning on looking into it. Guess I'll have to go through the forums again."
"Are you planning to live stream?" One of the younger girls asked excitedly.
"Not yet. I doubt there's anything worth streaming currently. I plan to once I'm at a higher level."
They said their byes and parted back to their rooms. Gene burrowed back into forums looking for anything that could be helpful to her. She marked a few quests that gave her very high experience and started looking at the jobs available at her level. Her initial plans were to avoid jobs till she reached 100.
After looking through the entire list of jobs she finally hovered over the herbalist and alchemist profession. Herbalists didn't cost anything and would be extremely easy to complete while alchemy was its second advancement. Considering how much free time she was bound to have, this felt a lot more plausible.
Olahal City Quests…
Gene found most of the quests and started making a table. She found it intriguing that the experience gained from the more advanced quests easily outpaced the experience gained from killing advanced monsters. The Shallow Water Queen dungeon gave an average experience of 12,000 while the advanced quest of the same level, The Tears of Roney gave a whopping
23,000 experiences. Granted the dungeon is farmable but the time required to complete it was much worse than completing the quest.
As she went through the list, she felt that her job was made specifically for completing these errand quests. It was around midnight when she finally decided to sleep. Since she was in the dorm she couldn't skip class the next day. Classes started early by 7 so she will have plenty of time to complete her mission once she is done.

Shizuka
A/N: I'm actually writing two stories at once, this and another story on ScribbleHub. I have decided to put Shizuka on hiatus due to some RL issues but my story on ScribbleHub will continue since I'm co-writing it with a friend which is easier. Please do check it out on ScribbleHub. Series name is Walking in Shadows. Four Heroes were summoned from earth to combat an evil threat in Evarenan but there was a fifth person, Hirano Shizuka. She was never meant to be summoned. It was purely coincidental and unintentional. The God who acted as the intermediatery for the summon, has shunned her. Fated to live a harsh life in a foreign world. Abaddon, a Goddess, the Empress of Night, took pity upon Shizuka. Fascinated by the strength of her will and soul, and fond of her humble and accepting character, the Goddess offered Shizuka to be her Champion which Shizuka accepted. A month passed after the arrival of the Heroes and a plus one at Evarenan, the real trials and nightmares of this world had only just begun for our offworlders, especially Shizuka. AN: Shizuka is the sequel to Overture of an Odyssey, which takes place after the events of the latter.

Good Guy Necromancer
Necromancers are murderous, repulsive, utterly ungodly creatures. And then there's Jerry. Jerry is a novice necromancer who treats his undead warmly, seeks to befriend people instead of harvest their bodies, and doesn't mind cracking a skull or two when needed. He genuinely is a good guy—too bad nobody believes him. Trying to discover his place in the world, Jerry will live great adventures. He will make friends, each unique in their own way, and together, they will travel through a variety of striking environments; from a tiny village, to the land of the dead, to a jolly archipelago, to a kingdom on a beanstalk. To save a world that shuns him, Jerry must stand against a large organization of arrogant, mighty wizards. He strives to become stronger while maintaining his kindness, only to realize that, maybe, gentle hearts make the greatest necromancers. This is the story of a delightful man in a harsh world—full of warmth, action, and wise-cracking bone puns. Chapters are usually 2-3k words, and updates are 3/week: Mon, Wed, Fri. If you're looking for another fun, action-packed adventure, check out Cultivator vs. System by yours truly, available on Kindle, KU, and Audible. But read Good Guy Necromancer first.
