《The Legend Of Drog》Chapter 5: Dantian

As Liu Ri spoke Drog had already sprung into action.
He closed his eyes and concentrated not on his surroundings but on his body instead.
From the knowledge that he was bestowed by his master. Drog knew that he first had to awaken his dantian which was located at his abdomen area. Only awakened - Drog would be at the starting point of cultivation. Reaching this starting point in these two breaths of time was important to him as it would solve his immediate problem and stop the internal bleeding – which, in turn, would save his life.
To awaken the dantian, he first needed to sense it. Upon sensing it - he would find the five points which corresponded with the five elements: Fire, Wood, Water, Earth and Metal. Then use one of these points to awaken the dantian. The point used would determine what kind of element the cultivator would have to cultivate for the remained of his life
Because of this important choice, the cultivator first would have to complete a series of tests to find the element he/she was most suited for. If one tried to cultivate the element which he/she was not suited for then the rate of their cultivation would be really slow. These people would fall behind their peers and would not amount to much. Even after spending their entire lives cultivating they might not even pass the easiest of the barriers which they could have passed if they cultivated the element which they were most suited for.
Usually, one person was most suited only for one element and in rare cases - one could be suited for more than one element. These people that had affinities for more than one element were referred to as prodigies.
…
"Found it!" Drog thought as he with his closed eyes sensed the dantian in his abdomen.
"One breath of time remaining!" Liu Ri's voice sounded in Drog's head.
Drog had no time to waste, he didn't use one element to awaken the dantian rather he used them all. He did so not on a whim nor because he was nervous about the time he was left. He did so because the knowledge he was bestowed directed him to do it.
When the five elements touched his dantian, a huge explosion rang out.
BOOM!
With the explosion, the impurities were blown away from his body and the internal bleeding stopped.
"Congratulations! You are now a cultivator." Liu Ri's voice sounded in his head.

Drog's eyes opened and a slight smile appeared on his face. "That's right as long as I am given a method, I will always succeed. I will never fail!" He thought.
Riu Li was not aware of his arrogant thoughts; if she was - she herself would be surprised. After all, there were not many people out there, who after surviving by a hair would act so arrogant. As the average human would sigh a huge sigh of relief followed by thanking the gods for sparing him/her.
"How does it feel?" She asked.
Drog raised his hand, "I don't feel the pain I felt before." He turned his head and frowned, "What is that black mass around me?"
"Those are the impurities of your body that were dispelled as you reached the starting point of cultivation."
"Try standing up." Liu Ri said.
Drog nodded and stood up on his feet, "I feel so light."
"Your body has now transformed, you are stronger, faster and tougher. You are now also able to notice objects and people moving at high speeds. Most importantly - you now are able to cultivate."
Drog smirked and thought, "So I am one step closer to becoming the strongest under the heavens! Good!"
Drog tilted his head, "Master you have bestowed a cultivation method upon me, but I don't know anything about the cultivation itself. Can you give me a quick rundown?" He calmly asked.
"Very well." A voice said in his head.
"After awakening the dantian we cultivate by absorbing the energy from the air into it. How much energy we absorb depends on the cultivation method while breaking through bottlenecks and comprehending techniques depends on the talent."
"What is a bottleneck?"
"I will tell you in a moment."
Drog nodded, "Alright."
"There are nine cultivation stages for the earth and five cultivation stages for heaven."
"What is heaven and what is earth?"
"They refer to the different realms of cultivation. As you are now you are at the gates of earth, after you go through all the stages of earth you will step into the heaven. Once you step into the heaven, only then you will be able to complete the three tasks I have given you."
"The first level of earth is called martial novice and this one level is split into nine sub-levels. Rank one as the lowest and rank nine as the highest. When one reaches rank nine they then have to cultivate up to the peak of that sub-level, reaching this peak will put one at the bottleneck; after passing this bottleneck one can advance to the next level and so forth."

"Do sub-levels have bottlenecks as well?"
"There are no bottlenecks between sub-levels, as long as you cultivate you will be able to pass through the sub-levels without encountering any setbacks."
"Earlier she said that she was sealed inside the pendant by gods, so I guess I can assume that the cultivation method I was bestowed is top grade. So now only one question remains…" Drog thought.
"How does breaking through bottlenecks and comprehending techniques relate to talent?" Drog asked.
Liu Ri sighed before saying, "It's quite hard to explain but I will simplify it for you."
Drog nodded, "Alright."
"Cultivators have something called Qi; this Qi is located at our dantian. Let's say that each and every cultivator has 100% of Qi but we can't use all the Qi that we have. From this point talents come into place – a person with F rank talent can use 5% of his or her Qi, E- rank talent can use 15% of Qi, D-rank 20% of Qi, C-rank 35% of Qi, B-rank 65% of Qi, A-rank 80 of Qi and S-rank 100% of Qi."
Drog furrowed his eyebrows, "What does that mean exactly?"
"I was getting to it but before that, you have to know a few more things. This will get slightly more complex now so pay attention as I won't repeat myself as I said earlier I hate repeating myself."
"Go ahead, I am listening."
Liu Ri nodded inside the pendant, "Earth and heaven - nine points of earth and five points of heaven. The cultivation is separated into these two for a reason. Your dantian is connected to the nine points across your body; these nine points together are called earth."
"Just as your body – your soul also has several points across it, I am sure you already know what I am going to say?"
"The soul has five points and those points together is referred to as heaven?" Drog said.
"That's right. Now let's go back to earth."
"Go on," Drog said.
"You will absorb the world energy into your dantian and from the dantian, this energy will travel through your meridians and it will travel to the first point. You can think this first point as martial novice realm. After you reach rank 9 martial novice's peak, you then will hit the bottleneck."
"When you reach this bottleneck you will then have to awaken the next point which would now be martial intermediate realm. But to fill this point you will have to pour in your Qi and how much Qi you can pour in -depends on your talent. Do you understand, Drog?"
Drog nodded, "So if for example, I need 100 of Qi to breakthrough a bottleneck and if my total Qi is 100 but because of my martial talent I could only pour in 5 Qi?"
"That's right and after you exhausted all of your Qi you would have to replenish it before you could pour it in again."
Drog nodded, "So that means my cultivation speed in one realm would be really fast because of the cultivation method but I would take much more time breaking through the levels. I would have to put in fifty times more time than a person with S-rank talent."
"That's right."
Drog nodded, "The same principle for martial techniques as well?"
"Yes, when you read the tome of a skill - a core will form around your dantian. You will then have to pour your Qi into that core and when you fill it enough you will be able to use the technique."
Drog nodded, "I understand."
A moment passed and a smirk appeared on his face, "You looked down on me – Go, for that, I will have to teach you a lesson that you won't ever forget. Only I have the qualifications to look down on people and not the other way around." He thought.
"This brat is really strange, he didn't ask stupid questions; he seems more like an adult and not a child." Liu Ri thought.
"Where are you going?" She asked.
"I am going back to the village," Drog said.
"You know that I am walking? Wait can you see the outside of the pendant?" Drog asked with a slight surprise.
"I can feel the surroundings of the jade pendant and I can see through the jade itself."
Drog nodded in understanding, "I see."
