Chapter 40 · Rabbit hole

My guide looks down at the little glowing plate on his belt. It seemed to glow slightly and vibrate. He seemed to stare at it for a few second and raised a hand to his head and gave a long sigh.

"I'm sorry miss but I'm afraid I have to... take care of a different matter. The actuation starts within the next hour I believe if you would like I can have someone come later to take you there," he explains with an expression of I guess sadness and maybe a bit of annoyance.

"Hmm ok," I replied. I looked around the little shop cafe... place... thing. It was peaceful. Also, I had felt weirdly sleepy since I stop looking at the display items. Maybe it was the run.

"So sorry miss but I have to go now. Its been a pleasure," he quickly said with a little bow before wooshing out the door. I meant like one second he was there then there was a gush before the door open and he was gone. I looked at the now empty space where he had been stand.

Magic. Still super weird but at least it was useful if you're in a rush I guess.

Well, guess I got an hour free. I sat in the little leather chair with my drink sitting on the table. I reach and took a sip.

"Ow," I whispered as I slipped to much and I felt the hot liquid burn the top of my tongue.

I put my drink back down letting it cool and to let my tongue to regain some of its senses. I kind of just sat there for a while after that. I don't really know what to do. I mean I found it kind of interesting to see all this weird stuff but none of it really I understood and the few I did I feel like I can just use my computer for.

Oh well soon this will hopefully be over then I can go see my uncle and maybe he can explain some of this and then...

well, I guess I find out what comes next after I've talked to him. mean I need to get a job. I don't want to live off some else money forevermore it felt wrong like I was taking advantage of my uncle. I also still needed a way to pay Zoe back for helping me with, that.

That also brought up a new problem. I couldn't just go up to my uncle and say I'm having these weird dream and I can't seem to remember important stuff about my own family. Oh, and magic real by the way'. I can't see that going well. It sounded like how Zoe would explain it. Maybe she was rubbing off on me.

Not that I would mind that.

I shook my head. I shouldn't go down this rabbit hole. I will just have to see how it went.

I look at the shelves of books and the little sign saying 'please help yourself'. I look over them all. There were lots; some old, some new, overs worn and some that had a layer of dust on them that would suggest they had never been read. I scan them but they didn't seem to be in any type of order so I just picked one at random.

It seemed to be some kind of fantasy book. Or was it fantasy now, I mean magic real so does that make it still fantasy? I only half read it as I tried not to think about my murky future.

But I don't want to get up.

"Go way," I half whisper as I heard the voice.

"Please, I'm here to take you to the auction," I heard the voice again. It was male but light and airy like a whistle of wind rustling leaves. I slowly peel my eyes to see a cute blue skin man crouching next to me.

"But I'm still dream," I muttered.

Then I remembered.
