Chapter 34 · Viewing room

I felt like my legs were going to weather to nothing. We had been walking for at least what felt like an hour before we got to a large museum-like room.

I had asked after walking down repeating plain hallways and walkways why we didn't use the fast travel and my guide had explained he was not happy to overuse it. I felt like it was more likely because he fears he would harm me which to be far it might have done.

But it was still better than my now jello legs. I looked up to view the room

The hall stood large and open. Wooden tables and glass stands were laid out spaced in such a way that many people could view them but also walk around freely. The room itself was some kind of grey brick walling with plain carpet on the floor. Tall, thin fogged glass windows were letting in an orange-tinted white light of the evening sun.

I could see the odd person or couple in the room. Most were older and they all seemed to be wearing formal clothing. Nothing too fancy but smart nonetheless. An odd cough or muttering could be heard but for the most part, the only sound was a quite plucking of, what sounded like, a harp of some kind.

It was peaceful but at the same time felt empty. Maybe it was the lack of noise from traffic or the rush of people who you tend to find in London.

I walk forwards following a small paper sign stuck to a table with a large number one printed on it and an arrow pointing now the display tables. I could hear the soft footfalls of my guide behind me as I stepped closer to the table.

Looking down I could see lots of large stone tablets that look ancient with a language I could understand written on it. Under these tablets, I could see a small card under it.

Name: dial of sĥytlý (1 of 4 set)

Age: 1500 - 1650 A.D.

Info: unknown finder. This clay tablet is from the sixth island of the current Keepford islands from a temple of the sĥytlý culture. For more info please ask staff.

Effects: N/A

Starting price: £ 2000

I had no idea about who the hell the sĥytlý are but for that price, they must be important or maybe people here had the cash to splash. I could almost feel my mouth dry thinking about spending that money on some old clay 'dial'.

"I believe that we have three of that set of sale today if you wish I could get you some more information on such items if you wish," came my guide's voice making me jump as I haven't heard him approach my side.

I looked at him to find him with an unfazed faced. I couldn't help but feel poor at the sound of that if only one of these things cost so much how much do three cost. Also what happened to the fourth. I looked back to see him still standing there waiting for I guess a reply.

"Um, I'm ok, thanks. Is there anything... cheaper, maybe?" I asked trying not to sound too desperate.

"Of course, is there anything you like. We have a somewhat open house auction today so we have a large selection of products for sale," he asked seeming not to mind my, what I was fairly sore, easy to read panic. I mean for all I know they might kick me out for not having any money to hand then I would be on my own again...

"Miss, do you have an ideal price range," he asked snapping me back to the now.

I knew I had a little from Uncle but I needed that for rent and I hadn't had a chance to see how much I had yet so best not to rely on that. Maybe Zoe was going to buy something then they wouldn't throw me out then would they, if I was with her.

"Maybe something... small or useful," I said. I was just trying to sound like I knew what I was doing. When my guide face lit up slightly I felt like I have said the right thing.

"Such items as trinkets or gifts perhaps," he asked happily which I quickly nodded my head too.

He seemed to stop for a second before turning and walking with a slight skip to his step, signalling me to follow. I guess some people just really love their jobs.

We walked down past bottles of wines, large handing tapestry, odd gear construction and many other old and odd things that stood out against all the other items of interest
