《Aether: The World Inside a Dream》1.5 - Impasse

Sitting under a tree, the two were talking to each other. The atmosphere between them was still far from perfect, but it was the best I could do. It didn't take much to make them realize that if the fight continued, the situation could get worse.
About the skill I gained earlier, it is called 'awakening' according to Murakami. It's a skill that only creators have. It varies according to the person, and corresponds to the passion or desire that each one holds within themselves.
Of course, as I'm into anime and video games, it's only fair that my skill is related to RPG games. Oh man, this is fantastic!
In Murakami's case, she can create several types of swords, and as many as she wants, if she has the energy to do so. Her passion, however, is still unknown.
They're talking to each other, which is really making me anxious... Because of the subject? No. Simply because I'm with two beautiful hotties. It's not every day you get a golden opportunity like this after all.
Loveta stops the conversation for a moment and grabs my right arm.
“Hey, Master, I'm feeling a little bored… Why don't we finish what we started yesterday~?” She says, wagging her voluminous tail eagerly.
“Finish what we started yesterday? Wait a minute, you're not referring to...!”
“Gigi~”
Her face was on fire.
So is it really that?! Hey, there's someone else here!
Murakami immediately creates a sword separating the two of us. Her expression wasn't one of her bests.
“Stop stalling and tell me how you got the summoning crystal!”
“Grrrr! Again the same question?!”
The pressure between them rises again.
Loveta insisted that she had seen a person like me climb the tower, and that, as she followed him to the top, she noticed that there was nothing there but a crystal lying on the ground. Despite saying that, Murakami couldn't believe this story at all.

“There were only two crystals; one that belonged to the Empire, and that was used by the Emperor's bishop to summon me, and another that belonged to the moonstrucks. To believe that the latter was simply thrown on top of a tower, which you found by chance by following a person similar to Ryouzen... It's just too much for me to believe!”
“Gyan! Believe if you want! Now leave me alone with my Master~! Shoo, shoo, knight.”
Enraged, Murakami swings her sword again.
“You're forbidden to touch him until you tell me the truth!”
Hey, hey, hey! Did I become a bargaining chip by chance?!
“Grrrrrr!”
Damn, if things continue like this, we're going to have a second round, and I don't think I'll be able to do anything this next time... If only there was some way to prove the veracity of what Loveta is saying...
——!
And there is!
“Murakami, why don't you hypnotize her to assess her words?”
She puts her hand under her thin chin bowing her silver haired head a little.
“It's a good idea, this might work.”
“Err, just take it easy on her, please...”
“Don't worry, hypnosis with a dreamian is different than with a human. You don't need to force too much.”
Loveta jumps back.
“Gya! What do you intend to do to me?!”
I tap her on the shoulder to calm her down a little.
“I believe in you, so don't be afraid.”
Staring at me, Loveta calms down a little.
"I-if it's Master Kazuki who's saying it, then fine..."
I truly believe in Loveta's words, so there's nothing to fear. I know it's weird that I trust a dreamian I only met yesterday, but you know what? I feel a tremendous confidence in her. I wonder if the reason for this is because she is my creation? Maybe because our souls are linked? Well, it must be something that way.

Removing her necklace, Murakami starts swinging it to the sides, starting the process.
“Is it really okay for you to remove your necklace Murakami?"
“Yeah, it won't take too long.”
Loveta then faced the crystal that was moving tirelessly from side to side. Her guard, before quite high, starts slowly disappearing, and by constantly hearing the soft words that came from Murakami's lips, the tension in her muscles was also giving way. It didn't take long for her to fall into a deep trance state.
Murakami starts her questions, and Loveta answers them one after another.
She looked like a helpless little wolf, completely unconcerned with the world around her. Her sentences always ended with 'gyan', which contributed to a good appreciation of the moment. Her long black hair flowed beautifully down her delicate face, while her fluffy wolf ears twitched slightly at every word she said.
Fufu, that's what I call something to taste for the eyes! Loveta is definitely very hot!
But um, how weird... even though Murakami gets deeper and deeper into her mind, Loveta isn't in tears like I was. Ah, how I wish I had had this same process with me too… Phew! Just thinking about the despair I went through before, makes me sick...
“Apparently, she really spoke the truth…” Murakami says it when she finishes her technique. “But still, it's very complicated to believe...”
Loveta slowly opens her big purple eyes.
“Gyu? What happened? What a sleep~!”
“You're free, the process is over.”
“Gyaa! Finally~! Now we can be together without interruption Master Kazuki!”
She leans in to hug me, but then—
ZOOOM!
Scarllet swings her sword again.
“Gya! Why did you do that for?! Haven't you already confirmed that I was telling the truth?!”
“Yes, but Ryouzen is still my classmate, so I can't allow you to pervert him.”
...Haha, if only she knew that I was actually the one who started this whole thing...
“Grr! I'll listen to you for now just because my Master doesn't want to see us fighting, but—"
She comes closer to my ear.
“The next time we're alone, the story will be different~”
SWISH!
Blood runs from my nose.
That was so damn sexy!
Murakami stands up taking a long breath.
“Anyway, it's almost sunset, and we have to decide a safe place to go. Azurya won't do as this soul-linked will apparently come with us.”
Azurya was the imperial city we were heading to before Loveta came along. The problem is that there is a magical barrier that prevents soul-linked from passing through. If none of us had our souls stable, it would also be impossible for us.
Oh, and about the time in here, in Aether, it seems that it works similarly to Earth, the difference is that it is twelve hours ahead, that is, if here it is five o'clock in the afternoon, for example, on Earth then it is five o'clock in the morning. And the sunset would roughly indicate the time our alarm clocks would go off, around seven in the morning.
“Um, it amazes me how an ex-imperial would like to go back to that city, gufufu!”
“...Although it's the main city where the Emperor resides, it's not like it's exclusive to Imperials, you know? It's probably the richest and safest city around here.
“Gyann~ Rich and safe. I didn't expect less from an ex-little princess~”
"L-little princess..."
A vein appears on Murakami's forehead. Yeah, she didn't like that at all.
“Come with me, I'll show you a city of culture, the real Aether!” Loveta says excitedly.
Huh? The real Aether...? What does she mean with that?

The Oresteia (Modernized)
All three of the great Greek Tragedians have written plays about the bloody chain of murder and revenge within the royal family of Argos. Yet theirs is in fact not a story of tragedy, but rather one of redemption. As they move from darkness to light, from rage to self-governance, from primitive ritual to civilized institution, their spirit of struggle and regeneration becomes an everlasting song of celebration to be heard throughout the ages. Forming a discourse set against the emergence of Athenian democracy out of a period of chaos and destruction, the Orestian plays are compelling stories of the tensions between our obligations to our families and the laws that bind us together as a society. In the beginning, we witness how a king’s decision to sacrifice his daughter and turn the tide of war inflicts lasting damage on his family, culminating in a terrible act of retribution. In the aftermath of regicide, we behold how a son must set out to avenge his father’s death by committing a most egregious sin. In the end, the sinner is tormented by supernatural powers that can never be appeased, but ultimately finds redemption and ends the curse on his house once and for all. Woven through all of this is the story of a friendship so close that it elevates itself to brotherhood - Where the blood of the covenant is shown to be indeed thicker than the water of the womb. In this very brief twelve-chapter modern rendition of the Orestian plays, I have chosen to place my focus mainly on the lives of the characters Orestes and his best friend Pylades. The chapters, each around 2000-2500 words, are split up evenly between them in first-person narrative. I hope that you will come to enjoy reading this heartwarming story, but more importantly, that you see how the conflicts portrayed in the story, whether human or institutional, are still much very relevant to our societies today. Note on Sources: The details of this story is very loosely based on The Oresteia by Aeschylus. And I mean very loosely. Other sources that I referenced for detail and inspiration are Mythology by Edith Hamilton, Electra by Sophocles, and Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides. You may also find that I have quoted some of these works, and others (such as Shelley's Ozymondaeus), without citations (average of 1-2 such quotes per chapter). I did this because I do not have the ability to describe certain scenes nearly as well as some of those writers. If you read a particularly beautiful piece of prose here, chances are it's probably stolen lol. Also, I wrote this during the summer between my high school senior year and my college freshmen year. It was the summer of 2020, and being quarantined apparently gets my creative side out lol.
