《Stardust》Chapter 1.2 - White - Three's A Crowd

As I was on my way to the school garden, Hosuke along with two other friends of mine showed up and decided to hang out with me. On Hosuke right hand, I can see that he was carrying his lunchbox. Typical Hosuke. Even though he likes to eat and looks fat, he still knows it when to stop. At least that was what I remembered. Alongside him, two other boy was walking beside him.
One of them, the one that wears glasses was actually the school’s Librarian President. Yeah, that’s a pretty big name to be hanging out with the likes of me. His name is Blax Tank. He always wear proper clothing since he is one of the school representative student. Plus, he has a martial art background. He joined a lot of contest and tournament for the past 4 years I’ve known him. With that in mind, one would certainly wonder what kind of magic he has. It wasn’t that of a surprise when you know that he actually has Super Strength, which was obviously an offensive type magic. It is quite understandable that he took part in those contests.
Blax waved and called me, “Hey, White! Where are you going?”
“To the garden.”
“The garden? What for?” asked Blax
I stuttered a little bit but at the end I spoke up, “I’m helping out Rika. She got a meeting later so I’m doing the garden duty for today.”
Blax face suddenly turned devilish and I think I know where this going…
“Wow! Nice initiative! I knew you are destined to be together!” Blax spoke those words loudly as if he tried to announce it to the whole world.
Thankfully Hosuke calms him down, “Dude, can you at least lower your volume? You’re creating more enemies if you do that you know?”
“Not my enemy, but White’s enemy.” chuckles Blax.

“That’s not the point. Please understand, Blax” replied Hosuke.
Blax smirks a little and said, “Jeez I was joking, Hosuke. White knows that, right?”
Blax looked at me hoping for my agreement.
I just went on and gave him a poker face and said, “Can you two stop fighting? You guys always fight each other nonstop even for the smallest thing. Don’t you think so, Rulend?”
My head turned to the other boy, who was apparently the 2nd in-command to the Librarian President, Rulend Soft. He uses a utility type magic which is called Investigation. He can literally visualize a crime scene with his magic right in front of a crime scene. He can even obtain additional data that the police might miss. He also can draw a map of the area he is in using his spell. He was like an ace detective and he certainly used his magic very well. He was a great strategist when he joined The Seven Month War.
The Seven Month War was a small war that happened at our high school way back when it was my first year here. It was kind of brutal to be honest. But thankfully it was resolved thanks to great minds like Rulend.
“Yes. Can’t you two just cut it out?” said Rulend.
Hosuke and Blax finally calmed down.
Rulend then continues, “Besides, we don’t have time to banter about this. We have a surprise quiz tomorrow.”
Blax eyes were in disbelief of the breaking news, “Wait, are you serious? A pop quiz right after the first day?”
Hosuke started to laugh and said, “Thankfully I’m not in the same class as the three of you are. Good luck with the pop quiz guys.”
“You are not helping, Hosuke.” exclaimed Blax.
“Shut it.” Hosuke replies.
“Can you two please shut up already!” I snapped.

As things were getting tight, Rulend continues, “As I said, there will be a pop quiz tomorrow. The quiz will be about the types of magic.”
“Types of Magic?” asked Hosuke.
“This is basic knowledge, Hosuke. How can you forget this thing?” said Blax.
“How should I know when every time I try to understand something, you always interrupt me.” replied Hosuke.
Rulend with his stern eyes looked at both of them and continues, “Allow me to explain then, Hosuke. There are three different types of magic. Offensive, Defensive and Utility. Offensive is a type of magic where the magic is for attacking. Examples like Blax’s Super Strength and Rika’s Lightning Manipulation.”
“I see, how about Defensive then?” Hosuke asked.
Rulend continues to explain, “Defensive type is where the magic was used for either self-defense, protection or prevention. Examples like Immunity, a magic where at a certain time the caster’s target can be immune to anything for a short amount of time. Another examples is Vanguard, where the caster will have the ability to absorb a certain amount of damage. Like a sponge.
“Wow, I would be annoyed if I had to face someone that has Vanguard in a contest.” said Blax.
“I think Utility type is the most questionable one is it not?” I asked.
“It certainly is.” Rulend agreed. “Utility type is a bit harder to understand. But basically, Utility type is a magic that is not counted as either Offensive or Defensive. It is more like a magic for different types of circumstances. Examples like, my Investigation or even a simple one like the obvious Heal where, as its named heals a target. There’s also Locksmith, which is for opening locked doors. Database, where the user acts as a mobile encyclopedia. There’s also common ones like Advanced Cookery and Acting Pro.”
“Even cooking and acting is a form of magic?” asked Hosuke.
“Most of the time, Wizards who uses Utility type magic end up in the Servicing Industries. But there is also times when Utility type can be used in combat. Act can deceive an enemy since Act is another form of Disguise magic. The differences is Act can let out the casters feelings if they are into it and those who are observing them will be touched by their feelings.”
“That’s impressive.” I said.
“With all this in mind I hope you two can answer the pop quiz tomorrow.” Rulend finished.
Rulend was very intelligent about these kinds of things. No wonder he makes good use of his Investigation magic. No wonder everyone calls him The Mastermind. Let’s not forget, The Librarian President, Blax who famously called The Black Berserker. I haven’t seen him fighting for a long time so I don’t know why people called that other than it being a joke from his own name but one thing I know is that nickname sounds very dangerous.
“Oh look at the time?” Blax said as he looked at his watch.
“We’ll be heading to the library” explained Rulend.
Hosuke then asks me, “You coming later?”
I answered, “As soon as I finish the garden duty.”
“Alright then, see ya later” said Hosuke as he and the other two turned away from me.
What an interesting set of friends I have. Alright. Let’s stop taking pit stop and continue to the destination. First, I gotta do the garden duty that Rika supposed to do. Then, I can meet up with the rest of my friends at the library. Things have been getting a little interesting. I wonder whats next?

Dream Dungeon
Welcome to the dream dungeon. Ely suddenly finds himself in a mysterious dungeon accessed only through sleeping. Many people are drawn into this dream world, confused and mystified. Those in this dungeon must kill monsters to survive; maybe even each other. Join Ely as he struggles to survive a ruthless environment. What replaces his rest is untold trauma. What seems like an innocent game trope turns into a nightmare. This is a story of tragedy and the path to ultimate power. All in the hopes of an uncertain survival. _________ This fiction has NOT been abandoned. I made a haughty promise earlier to not worry because I'll continue this series, and with things lately, I've only proved myself a liar. Further promises dwindled, and I've lost trust. So many things have been going on recently that I've been booked. I will refrain from making any future guarantees or promises as my busy schedule will stay with me for a long long while. Time for me to actually spend on writing and revising won't appear until at the least November 19. I won't say expect that's when I'll restart, but you can expect expecting it to maybe happen. That's really shallow. But with everything going on, I've let my small reading base down. I apologize. I still stick by my statement though that I won't abandon this project. I plan to stick it to the end, no matter the delay. Most importantly, thank you everyone; readers who both like and dislike my work. I appreciate your time spent on my dumb imagination. Stay toasty my readers in this winter season. Cheers. UPDATE: We're back on track. Thank you for your patience. Any future readers, heyo! Glad you're here. UPDATE 2: So far it's been 21 days since I last uploaded a chapter. The best thing done for any fiction, no matter how good it is, is that it continues, and I have a bad history with that. 1 fiction on hiatus and already more delays with less than 20 chapters in this fiction. I've been very preoccupied with adding more things to do in my life rather than actually committing to any particular thing. That applies primarily to this. I cannot abandon this, as busy as my future looks and will look as I get busier and busier. Someday, I hope, I will be able to sit down and just write. just. write. But for now, I ask for patience. I suppose I'm glad this fiction hasn't picked up so that I don't disappoint too many people if any really. But I need to commit and it's going to happen sometime and sometime soon. No more flowery words. I'll see you later. UPDATE 3: It's very evident I won't be able to pick up this story for a while. With AP Testing, competitions, and other things I am busier than ever. But I must complete this fiction. I have too. Until next time. UPDATE 4: It is now the summer. I owe everyone an apology. Chances are, nobody's around to see this, and that is okay. I only blame myself for this sort of brokenness of a fiction, not that it is actually that bad but I am just exaggerating it for dramatic effect. But what's not exaggerated is the severity of my broken promise. I apologize for my naive claims about finishing a novel that I couldn't finish and that I didn't have the discipline to finish. Nor the skills, really, I was and am still an immature writer. What is to place now? I want to make it clear I understand this is my fault. I will man up to this. And I will accept any criticism. I understand I messed up. Reading Stephen King's On Writing made it clear to me that I need to do two things:Read lots. And write lots.I have done neither. If I don't have the time to read often, how do I expect to write? I need to become more experienced. I need to become a serious writer. So if I want to dream of continuing, I need to at least fulfill both requirements. I enjoy writing. I haven't written seriously outside of school in a while. I planned to write this summer and finish this. I made a lot of promises that I didn't keep.So there's that. I won't enact any self-pity, or be foolishly obsessed. What I did was wrong, and I must deal with it. I let down readers. And I apologize.I hope I can find forgiveness. This is a writer's sin.I won't promise I'll finish this. I intend to finish this, at some point, because writing is fun and I want to write. But how things are don't reflect that. Maybe I'll finish this at some point. Maybe I won't. I won't be naive to make that promise.I thank everyone who has read this if this is the end. If not, and hopefully not, I thank everyone who is to read future chapters. I thank everyone who allowed me to live in the miniscule little dream of mine as I passed my days. I thank everyone who cares enough to read this. Until next time, peace everyone. Thank you. You are all great readers and great people. I wish everyone the best in whatever reading/writing endeavors follow you henceforth.
