《Escapia: A VRMMO》Chapter 3: First Boss

An hour had passed since Daemon spoke to Lockheart. Now, Lockheart was watching the game's sunset with Daemon. There was a logical time loop in the game. As the sun slowly set, the shadows of objects, houses, and animals were slowly changing and disappearing. At the same time, sunlight created orange-yellow particle effects as it hit the ground:
"This is beautiful isn't it, Daemon?"
"It is. I hate to admit it, but this game has top-tier scenery."
After a few seconds of silence, Daemon changed the topic:
"So anyway, we unlocked two new systems right now."
Lockheart sighed. She would rather watch the sunset with Daemon than talk with him:
"Fine."
"Is something wrong?"
"Nope, go on."
"Those systems are Equipment System and Gem System, don't forget to check them from guides."
"Yeah, alright…"
Lockheart opened the menu and clicked on the "Gem System" button. When she clicked, she saw a triangular symbol with one empty circle at each corner.
Daemon pointed to the empty circles.
"If you find a gem, drag them to these empty circles. When you insert gems, it will give you bonus stats."
Lockheart nodded, then clicked to the "Equipment System".
When she clicked, she saw the virtual anatomy of her body.
Lockheart's virtual anatomy had empty circles on his hands, body, neck and feet, and short wand.
"Again, if you find an equipment item with better tiers, just drag it into these circles."
"What does that even mean?"
Daemon sighed and pointed to Lockheart's anatomy:
"Look, for example, you have no equipment except a short wand right now. And for knowing its tier, just look at its frame. For example, your short wand is a white tier, which is the worst tier in the game. So when you find another short wand change it. The lighter and brighter the frame, the rarer the tier of the weapon."

"O-oh. Fine, I'll keep that in mind, I guess..."
Lockheart turned back to the menu, then saw a red circle in the "Events" section:
"Huh, what's this?"
She clicked on it then looked at the new message:
"[Floor 2: Desertium] Boss is unlocked… Join the fight ASAP
(People above level 20+ can join)"
"Um Daemon, you might wanna check this…"
As soon as Daemon read the message he took out the Teleport Crystal from his pocket and shouted:
-[Floor 2: Desertium]!
When Daemon teleported, Lockheart screamed from the back:
"Wait, I don't know how to teleport! HEY! Don't leave me here!"
Daemon teleported to the Boss Area.
The area had a desert theme: There was light yellow sand on the ground and cactuses everywhere. Daemon could feel the hot sandy wind through his skin as he walked.
The boss was a Giant Cactus-Human Hybrid, it was doing weak AOE damage to players by throwing its spikes.
"This is probably not that hard, since it's the first boss." Daemon thought. But the boss was attacking constantly, the boss was almost about to die, but nobody could hit the boss.
"When a boss is about to die, it becomes enraged. And this status gives bosses extra Attack Speed and Agility, sometimes even special attacks. Did you get it Lockhea-"
Daemon turned around to see Lockheart. Daemon looked left and right, but couldn't find her anywhere.
"Oh, I must have left him behind."
Daemon sighed
"Man, she is gonna kill me! Well, it's time to beat the boss, I guess..."
Suddenly, a red circle appeared on the ground below the Daemon. He looked up and saw giant cactus spines coming toward him. Before the spines could hit him, Daemon sprinted out of the red area. He cut off a spine coming towards him with his sword.

With Lockheart's speed and agility buff continuing and a bit of luck, Daemon ran like wind, approached the boss, and jumped to the height of it. Then he took out the sword in the air and slew the boss from top to bottom.
[Congratulations to Daemon for killing the Cactus Hybrid!]
[Daemon obtained Orange Tier Mythril Sword x1]
[Daemon obtained Level 5 Sapphire x2]
[Daemon obtained Kud x5,000]
[Daemon obtained EXP x2,117]
People were angry at Daemon for suddenly showing up and winning the reward.
Instead of "Congrats!" he got deadly stares for his work:
"BRUH! COME! ON! Are you kidding me!"
"We lost the reward to a teenager, wow!"
"Beginner's chance!"
Luckily, Daemon got used to people being angry at him when in real life at debates about gender equality when he came up with the Kazuma gag every single time.
And even more, luckily, nobody could attack nor bully Daemon because he was in a safe area unlike in real life.
He quickly took his teleport crystal and shouted:
"[Teleport→ Near friend:] Lockheart!"
It was raining on the Main Floor, Lockheart was still watching the sunset, under a big tree.
Daemon suddenly showed up behind her:
"Hi, Lockheart. How are you doing-"
"Shut up!"
Lockheart pouted at Daemon and continued:
"You left me here!"
"I thought you would know how to teleport! Wait, let me show you."
He took the teleport crystal out of his pocket.
"Look, you're going to take this dark blue crystal out of your pocket and say the name of the place you want to go. You will be teleported when as the crystal glow."
Lockheart sighed and Daemon continued:
"And I didn't know that you were into boss fights."
She rolled her eyes:
"I don't care about some dumb fight. I'm sad because I've missed the participation reward. Everyone got a level 4 ruby except me…"
"Lockheart, you don't even know the ruby's usage."
"But it makes you stronger, right?"
"Yeah but-"
"I want my reward or I'll leave your team-"
Daemon opened his inventory:
"Fine, here! Take this!"
[Daemon gifted Lockheart (Level 5 Sapphire x2)!]
Lockheart took the sapphires in her hands, examined them, and asked:
"Wow, these are level 5, is that better?"
Daemon sighed and nodded:
"I got an extra reward for killing the boss. And I killed the boss with your buff. So I thought you deserved the reward too. My class, blademaster doesn't need the Sapphire's stats anyway..."
Lockheart smiled:
"Wow, Daemon. That's really kind of you! Thanks."
He continued:
"But I only did it because it was the right thing. I didn't do it because you whined like a feminist who just learned 'mansplaining' doesn't exist."
Lockheart stopped smiling and opened the menu, then clicked "Friends" and touched "Daemon's" avatar:
"You are really pushing your luck, Daemon..."
"Fine, I'll shut up for now..."

A world with a strange thing called a leveling system. Current update schedule: Tuesday 10:00 PM NZT Idea I had of an Abyss Watcher from Dark Souls 3 being transported into a LitRPG world. You don't have to know any of the lore from Dark Souls to understand this, however if you want to know more about the lore just google it or something, I can't stop you But it's not like it will be very useful in this story as I plan to not be focused on Dark Souls Lore. As a side note for those reading this while it is ongoing, I will occasionally go back to previous chapters and sometimes add certain elements to the skills and leveling. Not to worry though as I will tell you as to what I have edited in the authors notes, so be sure to pay attention to those when they appear as they may contain information required for continued understanding. Also, if you decide to drop this book then please leave a comment on the chapter you stopped on and tell me what made you stop.

Clarent Saga: Chronicles
Based on my work on Saga of the Jewels, I've been hired by an indie game developer to write the novel for their 'novel + turn-based battles' game which is in Early Access on Steam. Of course, a 'novel + turn based battles' is a terrible idea for a game, which is why no other games like this exist, but hey, the developer is paying me. And if something's worth doing at all, it's worth doing as well as possible, so I am going to give this project my very best shot and try to make it as good as it can be. So if you read this, please give me feedback on the story to help me make it as good as it can be! Please note, for this story I have been given a pre-existent set of characters, character back-story sketches and a rough plot to work with. I also have to insert random battles into the narrative, have set characters appear in a certain order, and have the party fight fixed bosses in a certain order, all at fixed points! Please also note that this is a first draft. I will be editing and re-working this in the future and re-posting it. But I need helpful feedback, if anyone can give it. You can also find the game version of this on Steam by searching there for 'Clarent Saga: Chronicles'.
