《A Savage's Journey》Chapter 8: Blessed One

Bright white light stained Jason’s vision. Oh… I see… the white light of heaven. Alright well I did as much as I could. Well maybe not but I mean I put in a good effort right? Eh… I stacked everything into Luck so not really… um. I guess there really isn’t anything extremely amazing about what I did in those caves. Whatever… let’s just get on with this.
Jason mentally reached toward the light trying to make his way toward it and then he felt it, brushing up against his fingertips. Then as quick as he could he grabbed it and tried to yank himself towards it.
“Oi ye daft kid! Let go of me beard!” A rough and baritone voice shouted. Jason felt himself get yanked back to reality and saw that there was a white floating orb above his head and his hand was grabbing a long and braided beard. He looked to where the beard came from and was greeted with the sight of a dwarf, an actual real life dwarf.
No wonder there’s a species spot in the status page. The dwarf was dressed in white robes that had golden embroidering at the edges. He had the typical look for what you’d expect of a dwarf. Grizzled face, short (only about 140 cm), a long beard that would flow down his body, and hands that were rough and thick.
Speaking of those hands they were currently around Jason’s throat and throttling him as the dwarf continued to yell at Jason to let go of his beard. Jason let go of the beard though it was more because he almost lost consciousness and not because the dwarf was telling him to.
Gasps sounded out from Jason as the dwarf fussed over his beard. After Jason took in enough air he looked around himself. He was in a spacious tent. He was specifically laying on what seemed to be an old fashioned sickbed, which meant it was a mobile table with a cloth on it. It looked like he was the only one in here besides the dwarf who was now glaring at Jason.
“So where am I?” Jason’s weak voice managed to sound out.
“I ain’t gon answer that b’fore ye look at ye status. I’m needin some time to fix me beard anywho,” The dwarf simply went back to smoothing and messing with his already immaculate looking beard. Jason stared at the dwarf long enough for him to look up and at him, then immediately turned to his beard again.

LEVEL UP
Before Jason was even allowed to look at his specific stats or the new necessary experience a different status screen popped up.
Available Classes:
Worker (Common) Boosts the effects of Fortitude and Endurance by 30% Gains experience by doing non-combat related tasks Blessed One (Rare) Boosts the effects of the Luck stat by 100% Gains experience through experiencing Luck (exp based on luck stat and intensity of luck) and skills leveling
“Why do I only have two classes to choose from?” Jason murmured to himself as he looked at the screen.
“Classes are based off ye stats me lad,” Jason turned to see that the dwarf had come and arrived right next to where Jason was laying down. “At te beginnin at least. Same for talents.” The dwarf seemed more than willing to actually talk to and apparently even give Jason some useful knowledge. I might as well try to capitalize on this while I still can.
“Sir do you know where we are? What country? I was lost in some caves and just found my way out. I’d really appreciate it if you could help me so that I could maybe get my bearings and find my way home,” If that’s even possible at this time. Jason didn’t say that last bit, but gave the dwarf his best winning smile.
“Get yer class first. Then we talk.” The dwarf closed his eyes and just stood there. Seemingly determined not to move another inch or say another syllable until Jason dealt with his status.
Turning to the screen again Jason found that he really didn’t have much of a choice. Getting that health and stamina boost seemed nice, but at the same time it would be throwing away all his work to stack Luck. So with only slight chagrin Jason chose the Blessed One as his Level 5 class.
Then he finally got to see what it did to his status.

Holy shit. I know it said it would double my luck, but damn. A 39% chance of my natural luck causing a random event to happen. Is that hourly or daily or every second of my life ever. Now that I’m safe and apparently ok and not addicted or anything I need to do some research into my abilities and how exactly they work.
That good luck though is only at 3.6% so that’s not great. Although since I’ve been getting even amounts of good and bad Lodenstone activations I bet the scaling is from a -100 to 100 scale and not just from 0 to 100. I’ll do more research later.
“Excuse me sir---”
“‘Ave ye done stats and skills yet?” The dwarf questioned not even bothering to open his eyes. Jason grumbled then threw everything into luck and then went to the skill trees.

Well in combat the fortune would be bad but in general life the misfortune would be absolutely terrible. Let’s check the active skills real quick.
Tier 1
Luck Theft [Rank 1] (0 / 200) Decrease target’s good luck by 20% and increase your own by 50% of the luck removed Increase the removal by 20% each rank Increase the successful theft by 5% each rank
Ok so there’s only one and it’s a straight up combat ability. Am I going to be in combat all that much? Well not if I can help it. Plus I don’t really like the idea of stealing someone’s luck. Considering how much luck normal people have considering they don’t stack into luck like me… is not very high. I really don’t think this skill is worth much in the vast majority of cases.
I think I’ll actually just take the Aura of Misfortune. I’d like to take the Aura of Fortune, but let’s face it. This world is going to have combat. I don’t like the idea of helping my enemies.
If it becomes a really serious problem then I guess I’ll find a way to take care of it somehow.

“Alright sir I’m done.” Jason looked at the dwarf. The dwarf opened his eyes and nodded his head giving a short grunt as he did so. Then he turned and started walking to the flap of the tent.
“Come on lad. Ye look lost,” the dwarf eyed Jason looking from his head to his toes. “In more ways than one. Follow me and I’ll give ya yer bearin’s.”
The dwarf reached the flap of the tent and held it open with one hand. Allowing Jason to see the glorious view that was the forest on the outside.
“Well get up ye lazy oaf.”

8 132The Electric Messiah
Volume Two of the Ontogeny series. A time of unprecedented crisis has come. During a mission to the edge of the known world, Brigadier Weyland James discovered that humanity faces a threat so terrible that the sane mind can barely conceive it. Failure to meet this threat would mean the end of human civilisation, mankind thrown back to a life of wandering savagery, easy prey for the true masters of the planet who see humans as mere animals, theirs to use and exploit as they see fit.Hope exists, if all mankind can unite, putting aside their petty differences for the greater good, but the truth is so unbelievable that the Brigadier faces an almost impossible task in convincing the leaders of the human world. His task is made even harder by the fact that several governments have been infiltrated by agents of the enemy, who are using their influence to sow seeds of war and chaos. The Brigadier is not mankind's only hope, though. In Helberion, a small group of scientists, struggling to make a major scientific breakthrough, is being hampered by assassination and sabotage. Is this the work of the enemy of mankind? King Leothan hopes it is, because it would mean that the enemy fears this new science, that it could be used to create a powerful weapon against them. A weapon that could be the Saviour of Mankind. The Electric Messiah... This is the sequel to Ontogeny. If you haven't read that book yet you must read it before you read this book.
8 91In the world of Masks and Capes
The DC universe has been trampled time and time again. Although certainties have been fixed, there would be one to settle the raging sea of chaos and bring balance. To introduce the raging drunken idiot of the former clan, into the world of Heroes and Villains. (A bit of a mix over along with some things, but mostly on DC) (Please note, MC is intentionally written as an idiot. Dumb decisions will be exaggerated...)
8 138Bear trap (statehumans CalTex)
(This book has nothing to do with furries, otherkins, or irl therianthropes. Both by their own definitions and my own, we have nothing to do with each other. Keep being your weird selves just don't pretend I'm a part of those groups because I wrote this book with animal/human hybrids in it. Any comments trying to talk about furries or otherkins will be deleted because it makes me physically uncomfortable. Therians are ok tho because it's basically the fancy way to say people who have spirit animals)There are two races in this world, humans and therianthropes, which are humans with animal qualities, that can shapeshift into their animal counterpart. The therianthropes, once divided by predator and prey, joined together in hiding after the humans began to hunt therianthropes for sport. California, a young grizzly bear therianthrope, was always curious to see the world beyond the forest he and his people lived within. Texas, a young farmhand, always wanted to catch a therianthrope, believing it would make him the hero of his village after violent massacres and thefts had been performed on it, supposedly by therianthropes. But when these two young men's paths collide, secrets, strange new feelings, and a magical adventure turns everything they thought they knew about the others race upside down.Warnings:- statehumans- countryhumans - the country and statehumans are all kinda just mixed together. There is no obvious separation between state and country, they're all just people - guns- and ships- hunting - idk, vegans?- gay stuff- not super gory, but people do get hurt - maybe death
